A week and a half had passed from when Harry had gotten on the train to go to his wizard school, Hogwarts. Olivia missed her brother terribly. Dudley had also left for Smeltings and she was alone in the house with the Dursley's. The Dursley's were ignoring Olivia's presence in the house, which didn't bother her, but she was quite lonely. No one at home really talked to her anymore and she felt sad.
That night, Olivia heard pecking at the window of the basement. She climbed on top of the sofa to see Harry's snowy white owl, Hedwig. Olivia couldn't reach the window to try to open it and get the letter, so she decided to sneak out.
Slowly, Olivia climbed up the basement stairs, careful not to make any sound. When she got to the top of the stairs, she slowly opened the door, making almost no sound. Creeping to the back door, she unlocked it and quietly creaked open the door, which made a low opening sound as she pulled it open, but she knew the Dursley's wouldn't hear that from upstairs. She stole out into the night, running to the window where Hedwig was still sitting.
Olivia sat next to Hedwig, pet her head, and took the letter from her. Seeing Harry's writing, she ripped open the envelope and read what he wrote.
September 10th,
So apparently there are four houses at Hogwarts; Hufflepuff is for the loyal, Ravenclaw is for the smart, Slytherin is for ambition (or evil as so many say), and Gryffindor is for the brave. I was placed in the Gryffindor house. Apparently Mum and Dad were in this house too! I hope when you come here you'll be placed in Gryffindor too!
Getting on the platform of 9 3/4 was easier than I would have thought, although when I was there by myself I had no idea how to get onto the platform. You just run at the barrier between and 10 and then you appear on the platform of the train that will take you to Hogwarts. It was awesome. A nice lady helped to show me how to get onto the platform and now I am best friends with one of her sons, Ron.
The train ride was nice, but the best thing about it was the amazing candy. When I come home I'll have to bring some with me. I can't wait to show you around Hogwarts, it is so cool. The Gryffindor common room is behind a portrait. Oh and portraits move too by the way, I sent you a wizarding card of Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts. In Hogwarts there are also a hundred and forty-two staircases at Hogwarts: wide, sweeping ones; narrow, rickety ones; some that led somewhere different on a Friday; some with a vanishing step halfway up that you had to remember to jump. Then there were doors that wouldn't open unless you asked politely, or tickled them in exactly the right place, and doors that weren't really doors at all, but solid walls just pretending. There are also ghosts that float around the castle, and the Gryffindor ghost is Nearly Headless Nick. There's Peeves the poltergeist, who likes to play pranks and he's rather annoying if I'm honest. Then the caretaker Filch and his cat Mrs. Norris try to catch students misbehaving and he's annoying too because he's always trying to get students in trouble.
Most of my classes are quite fun, except for potions. The teacher hates me for no reason from the moment I walked into his classroom. Hagrid told me that he doesn't, but I have a strange feeling that he is lying to me for some reason.
Yesterday I had my first flying lesson and this annoying boy, Draco, stole another boy's Remembrall and I wanted to stop him, so we were flying when we weren't supposed to and Professor McGonagall saw me and I thought I would get thrown out of Hogwarts so fast. Instead, she introduced me to the Gryffindor quidditch captain and now I am going to be the youngest seeker in the last century!
Anyways, that's all for now, I might not write for a while so that you don't get into trouble with the Dursley's.
Stay safe, I miss you,
Harry
Olivia was thrilled to hear about Harry's experience of Hogwarts thus far. Sadly she knew that she wouldn't hear from him for a long time, but she knew that it would be safer. Olivia patted Hedwig and told her thank you.
She walked back into the house, careful not to make another sound. Olivia snuck back down the basement stairs and laid on her couch to go to sleep.
That night, Olivia had a strange dream, there was a man with a purple turban on his head. He was trembling standing with his back to a mirror. Then the turban started to unravel, what was underneath made Olivia scream in her dream. Where there should have been the back of a head, was a face. It was the most terrible face she had ever seen. It was chalk white with glaring red eyes and slits for nostrils, like a snake. Olivia woke with a start as the face's mouth started to open. Olivia sat there for the rest of the night just shaking ever so slightly.
It was times like this throughout the rest of the year that Olivia wished that her brother had never left.
Soon days turned to weeks, and weeks turned to months. Olivia counted down the days that she would see her brother again. Only two more letters came from Harry, one at Christmas, and one on her birthday. They both were short and didn't really say much. Olivia felt like Harry was replacing her with new friends and was forgetting all about her. She didn't blame him of course, but she only wished that at least when he did send letters, that they would be longer.
December 18,
Merry Christmas Livvy,
I hope you're doing well with the Dursleys. Tell the Dursleys that I won't be coming home for Christmas, They let students stay here over break, and I just love it here with my friends and it feels like home here. I'm sorry it's been so long since I last wrote to you. A lot has happened since I last sent you a letter so I'll have to tell you when I come home.
Anyways Merry Christmas,
Love Harry
That was the entirety of the Christmas letter. Olivia thought that since so much time had passed, that it would be a longer letter. She loved that Harry had written to her, but she felt a little sad that this was it.
Her birthday letter was nearly the same.
May 27,
Happy birthday Livvy! Wow, I can't believe that you are finally 11! I hope you like your present. It's some of the candy that is from the wizarding world. It's a pack of bubble gum that never loses it's flavor and the bubbles don't pop for days, a chocolate frog, every flavor jelly beans, and cauldron cakes. Those are all my favorites. I'll be back from school at the end of June. I can't wait to tell you all about this year and what has happened.
Happy Birthday,
Love Harry
Soon the year was over and there was only one week until Harry would come home. Unfortunately, Dudley had come home, and that means that his ugly gang of friends started coming over again. One rough day, Olivia was walking home from the school yard, through an alleyway, when she rounded a corner and was confronted by Piers and Dennis. "Olivia, it's been a while. You're looking prettier than I remember..." Dennis trapped Olivia between the wall.
"Let me go." Olivia growled at him. She felt scared of what would happen, but she was gonna put up a fight if it came to that.
"I'll let you go if you give me a kiss. I haven't gotten a kiss from a good looking girl like you."
"Sure I'll give you a kiss." Olivia told him, waiting for him to close his eyes. Dennis closed his eyes, and Olivia quickly kneed him in the groin and wound up and punched him right on the lips at the same time.
"AGHHHHHH!" Dennis doubled over in pain. Olivia
Piers came at her, and she punched him once in the stomach and took off towards the Dursley's house.
When she got home, Aunt Petunia was on the phone. Olivia gulped as she saw her aunt motion for her to stay there. Shortly Aunt Petunia hung up the phone, and in a moment there was another phone call. "Go sit in the living room." Aunt Petunia whispered out the sides of her mouth. Olivia went and sat on the couch, awaiting her punishment. She soon heard Uncle Vernon come home.
Olivia was trembling as she heard her aunt and uncle talking in low tones in the kitchen. "Calls from both Dennis' mother and Piers' mother." Olivia heard Aunt Petunia tell Uncle Vernon.
"OLIVIA! GET IN HERE NOW!" Uncle Vernon sounded furious. Olivia shook like a leaf as she entered the kitchen. "OVER HERE!" Uncle Vernon pointed to right in front of him. Aunt Petunia left the room and Olivia wished she was going too.
"I just -" Olivia started as Uncle Vernon raised a fist.
Other than going to school, Olivia was confined to the basement for one month. She wouldn't be allowed to go pick up Harry from King's Cross Station. only a short week until at least Harry would be home. Then she might not feel so alone.
