The lush grass swayed in the gentle breeze outside the Snape family cottage early one spring morning.
Inside, Harriet lay in her nest, still sleeping while her husband and son shuffled quietly to the kitchen.
Albus sat down at the table and watched as his father quickly prepared some pancakes.
"Is the baby coming today, Daddy?" Albus asked excitedly while Severus served their breakfast.
"No, Albus, the baby isn't coming for a while." Severus replied in a low, distracted tone. His face was twisted in a scowl and his dark eyes narrowed as he sat down at the table across from his son.
Together, Severus and his little boy began to eat their morning meal.
"...But I want it to come today." Albus pouted while he stuffed his little cheeks with a forkful of food.
"Don't take so much at once." Severus corrected, "And I'm very sorry for the inconvenience, son, but people are born when they want to be, not when you want them to be."
"Well…...when does the baby want to be born, Daddy?" Albus asked curiously after he swallowed his mouthful.
"No idea." Severus shrugged, "Your mother will know first, and then she'll tell us, but that's not going to happen soon."
"...Is it going to happen this year?" Albus blinked.
"Of course it's going to happen this year." Severus scowled.
Clearly he had underestimated what the concept of "soon" was to a five-year-old.
"Is it going to happen this month?" Albus asked.
"No." Severus replied.
"Next month?" Albus pressed.
"Hopefully not." Severus said.
"The month after that one?" Albus frowned.
"Probably." Severus sighed.
Underneath his cold, foreboding exterior, Severus Snape actually had a great deal of patience but his inquisitive son was really testing his limits that morning.
"Let your mother and I worry about the baby's arrival." Severus advised Albus, "Alright? We need you to focus on your toys and your lessons."
Like most magical children, Albus was homeschooled since he was still too young to attend Hogwarts.
Homeschooling took on a new meaning when your father was Professor Snape….
"Alright, Daddy." Albus relented with a defeated sigh, "I just wanted to be prepared."
"Prepared for what?" Severus asked.
"Prepared so that I can read to my new brother or sister after they're born!" Albus exclaimed happily, "Mummy said that you read to me, so I'll do it for the baby! Then they won't be afraid of being here with us."
Severus didn't say anything in response for a moment, he just stared at his son in disbelieving awe.
Albus didn't seem to notice his father's gaze as he turned back to his pancakes and began to quietly finish his breakfast.
Albus took after his mother and grandmother a great deal. That moment at breakfast wasn't the first time that Severus had been humbled by the kindness of his own child's heart.
Severus ate the last of his pancakes at nearly the exact same second as Albus.
"Daddy?" Albus asked as Severus cleared their plates off the table.
"Yes, son?" Severus replied.
"Are you going to feed Mummy?" Albus blinked.
" I most certainly am." Severus replied, glancing over at the extra pancakes he had kept warm on the stove, "It's very important that your mother has proper sustenance."
"Can I help you?" Albus asked hopefully.
"Your mother probably won't be awake until later." Severus answered, "The sun is shining quite a bit this morning…...why don't you run along and play?"
"Alright, daddy." Albus agreed. With a smile, the little boy stood from the table and obeyed his father.
"Stay where your mother and I can see you!" Severus commanded as he watched Albus race out the door.
Albus enjoyed playing outside. Severus had too when he was his son's age, but for different reasons.
As Severus went to check on Harriet, a bittersweet grin tugged at his lips.
Severus was very happy that his children would grow up in a house with loving parents.
A house devoid of abuse, neglect, and alcoholism
A home.

Severus stealthily peeked through the cracked door of their bedroom and spied Harriet still sleeping.
Instead of leaving and coming back later, he stood and watched his beautiful bride for some time.
He couldn't see much, only her red, tangled tresses and the pout on her lips that had formed during her sleep.
To his delight, she finally woke an hour later and writhed languidly under the many blankets that covered her.
Harriet's green eyes slowly blinked open and she yawned when she saw Severus peering through the cracked door.
"I see you." Harriet murmured, stretching as much as her belly would allow.
"Good." Severus replied. He wanted his omega to know that he was watching over her closely.
Protecting her.
Severus thought he was protecting her.
Harriet thought he was hovering over her.
"I'm not a bomb." Harriet laughed as Severus slowly opened the door and stepped inside their bedroom.
Severus knelt down beside Harriet's nest and she couldn't help but blush as he replied, "No, you're not, though you are quite beautiful~."
Harriet blushed softly as she pushed the purple blankets off of herself and sat up in her makeshift bed.
Severus sucked in a breath at the sight.
It was difficult for him to decide what to admire first.
Harriet's fair complexion was warm and radiant. Her long, red hair draped over her bare shoulders, framing the new curves that her thin nightgown hugged proudly.
The omega had entered into her final trimester a week earlier. That had prompted Severus to submit his notice which stated he was beginning his paternity leave from his post at Hogwarts.
It was fortunate that it was already March.
Severus's parental leave lasted until the end of the academic year. That meant he would have the entire summer to spend with his mate and children.
Severus's gaze moved back to Harriet's face as he asked her, "Are you ready to eat something?"
"Lately, I'm always ready to eat something." Harriet smiled.
"Pancakes again?" Severus asked.
If her food requests from the past month were any indication, then Severus already knew what his wife craved, but he asked thoughtfully, just to be sure.
"Pancakes again!" Harriet chuckled.
Severus's black eyes fixated on the way Harriet's firm breasts jiggled with the motion of her chest.
He hesitated for a tense moment and Harriet drew in a silent breath, eagerly anticipating what she knew was coming.
What she hoped was coming…….
Harriet was no fool.
Severus knew, she was certain. He had no trouble detecting it before Albus had arrived, why should this time be any different?
Harriet frowned in disappointment when Severus turned away and glided back to the kitchen. When he returned a moment later with her pancakes, she took them from him and began to eat with a grateful but disheartened pout on her lips.
Severus sat beside his wife while she consumed her meal.
Harriet thought he was watching her eat but when she saw what her alpha was actually watching, she smirked against her fork as she pressed it to her lips.
"They're delicious." Harriet commented on the pancakes that Severus had prepared.
"Yes……." Severus said distractedly.
He wasn't talking about the pancakes.
Pancakes?
……..There were pancakes?
As his black eyes glued onto the creamy swells of his wife's ample cleavage, Severus had forgotten all about the breakfast he had cooked.
Severus was no fool either, he had smelled it as soon as he opened his eyes that morning.
The sweet, tempting scent of his omega's milk.
For such a dominant alpha, though, Severus was painfully respectful.
He held a great deal of sympathy for his pregnant bride's struggles.
Most alphas didn't understand how irritable and uncomfortable their mates were when they prepared to birth children, but Severus was kind and loving.
He was kind and loving with Harriet, at least.
Every soft groan that escaped her lips, Severus heard.
Every need of hers that arose, Severus met.
Every time she burst into tears, Severus held her close.
Severus was well aware that his wife's breasts were tender and sensitive. While another, more impatient alpha may have pinned Harriet down and taken what he wanted whether she liked it or not, Severus would do no such thing.
Eager for what was about to happen, Harriet may have enjoyed it if he had.
Harriet sat her empty plate outside of the nest, oppositely from where Severus sat.
"I'll take your plate, my love." Severus offered, "I'm going back to the kitchen anyway."
"Not yet." Harriet replied in a voice that was much stricter than she meant for it to sound.
"...Oh?" Severus asked, intrigued.
Severus looked at his wife as she held his smouldering stare in her own. The only thing that took his attention away from her vivid, green gaze was the subtle motion of her hand as she lifted it to gently stretch the thin straps of her nightgown off her bare shoulders.
Severus's eyes closely followed the motion as she pulled down her nightgown and exposed her swollen, bare breasts to his view.
"I'm full, Sev." Harriet whimpered quietly.
Severus felt blood rush to his groin as he crawled forward before he could stop himself.
"Won't you help me?" Harriet asked as Severus hovered in front of her, trying not to drool, "...Please?"
Careful to remain in control of his actions, Severus fought his primal urges and dipped his head to gently taste the early milk that his darling omega had produced.
The hoarse moan that left Harriet's throat as his lips wrapped around her nipple and began to suck pulled a growl of restraint from deep in his chest. Pushing aside his selfish wishes, he resisted the need to grab her widened hips and elicit similar, louder sounds from his lover.
Harriet leaned back amongst the pillows and let her fingers comb soothingly through Severus's soft, black hair as he drank his fill, his hands protectively splaying over her rounded womb.
Severus and Harriet both had fond memories of the last days of her pregnancy with Albus.
It felt lovely to Harriet that she was able to nurture her alpha in such an intimate way.
Severus, on the other hand, had never felt such a strange mixture of absolute relaxation and the most intense arousal he had ever known.
Once he was finally finished, both he and Harriet were saddened as he pulled away and licked the last pearly drops off of his lips.
Harriet sighed in exasperation as she gazed into Severus's face.
"Don't fret, my love." Severus replied with a low purr, "I'll be happy to aid you again in an hour or two~."
Harriet raised up and pressed her lips against Severus's. He groaned against her when she pulled him closer and closer until she succeeded in dragging him underneath the soft covers of her nest.
Their hands flew over each other, roaming and touching, while their kiss deepened.
Albus was disappointed but Severus and Harriet were very happy that the baby wasn't coming quite yet~.
