Chapter 5: Revaltions

It had been several hours since Everest had rescued Chase. After Marshall's inspection of the pup, he had concluded that Chase had been suffering from minor hypothermia from being left in the snow for so long. The variety of cuts and bruises littered throughout his body didn't help his situation. Right now he was bandaged up, wrapped in a blanket, lying down in front of the fireplace in the cabin. Coincidently, Ryder and the pups had been called upon for another mission, leaving Chase alone with the cabin's residents, Everest and Jake.

Chase slowly opened his eyes and looked around the room. The first thing that came to him was the scents of two of his good friends, Jake and Everest. The thing that followed was a splitting headache. A great wave of pain washed over the shepherd as he held his head with his paws.

"You okay Chase?"

Chase turned his head, looking for the source of the question. It was Everest.

"Yeah I'm fine, I just got this headache"

She walked over and stood next to him.

"Is there anything else I should be worried about?"

Chase took notice of her tone. He never saw this side of the husky. She was usually so care free and hyper, but now she sounded serious yet concerned.

"Uh, no but thanks for being concerned. Where is Ryder I need to talk to him" he said getting up.

She put her paw on his back and pushed him back down.

"Ryder and the pups got called for another mission. They didn't leave to long ago"

"Alright, well I need to get back to the lookout, there's some more things I have to-"

"Are you serious?" said Everest interrupting the shepherd.

Chase looked at her confused.

"What?"

"I found you beaten and unconscious, lying in the snow for who knows how long next to a corpse. Your not going anywhere, you need to tell me what happened"

"Okay fine. What do you want to know?"

"First of all what happened to you. Ryder said you were off the radar for a while before we came"

Chase sighed and looked down.

"Well, Ryder, Marshall, and myself were walking around aimlessly in the forest searching for any sign of a hiker who was lost in the woods. While we were walking, a noise drew my attention away from them. I stopped to look around only to realize I was by myself. They must've not noticed me lag behind. I tried finding them again but I had no luck so when I heard footsteps I thought it was Marshall. When I walked over I saw that it was the same asshole who blindsided me in town. When we fought, I remember him being on top of me, I thought he was going to kill me. When he brought his paw down, I thought I was dead. The next thing I remember is waking up a few minutes ago"

When Chase looked up at the husky he noticed her face. She seemed to be deep in thought. As he waited for her to respond he noticed something. She had a cut on the top of her head.

"Everest what happened, how did you get that? Was it him! I swear if he did anything to you I'll tear him limb from limb!"

The sudden shout broke the husky from her thoughts.

"What!? Chase no, I got this from someone-I mean something else" she said stuttering on her words.

Chase gave her a skeptical look.

"Okay. Do you have any other questions?"

"No. That's it"

"Good, I need to get back on this case as soon as possible, which reminds me, I wanted to ask you if you could help me out?"

"Sure with what?"

"I need you to help me track someone. The same guy who attacked me in the forest"

"I'm sure it won't be too hard. What about the other one?"

Chase paused and gave her a weird look. She looked back at him with a confused expression.

"What?" she said.

"What do you mean the other one"

"Well wasn't there also a female who attacked you?"

"Uh, yeah there was, but how did you know that? I don't remember telling you about that"

Chase noticed her start to internally panic.

"Uh y-yeah Skye told me while you were out cold"

"But I never told Skye, matter of fact I only told one pup, and he wouldn't tell anyone unless I said he could"

The two sat there in silence while Chase studied her facial expressions and body language. She was fidgeting with her paws and constantly looking around the room. Something was wrong.

"Everest are you okay? You seem worried about something"

"Yeah I'm fine, not worried about anything. It's just, maybe we shouldn't be getting involved in things that don't concern us. Isn't that what that dog said to you?" said Everest trying to change the topic.

"Everest, I never told you any of that, I never told you any of this? It's almost like you...were...there?" He realised something. The cut, the eyes, the voice, that's why that dog he tackled off the roof was so familiar.

"Chase whatever you're thinking please rethink it!"

"You were there! That was you on that roof!"

"W-what! I-I-I don't know what you're talking about" she said starting to stand up.

"You're working with them!"

"Chase please!"

"You're helping them kill innocent people, and for what!?"

"They're not innocent!" she shouted before quickly covering her mouth.

Chase looked at her, then the door. She knew what he was thinking and she couldn't let that happen.

He quickly sprang up and ran towards the door, as did she. However, she got there first and tackled him to the ground, pinning him down.

"Get off me!" he shouted, struggling to shake her off.

"Chase! If you calm down, and promise not to run out, I'll get off and explain"

They sat there in silence until Chase spoke.

"You better have a good explanation"
