A/N: Hi! I'm not dead! Sorry that I haven't posted in a while, school has been a bit more difficult and I didn't have the time nor the motivation to write. This is only a half chapter, only about a thousand words, but I hope you guys like it! I'll hopefully have the next chapter out in two weeks, if I can. Anyway, hope you like the chapter, please follow, favorite, and review!

Satin Winder, 18, District 1 Tribute

Satin Winder pushed her opponent down with the butt of her spear.

"Do you surrender?" she asked.

"Yes," her opponent choked out, "I surrender."

She lifted her spear from his neck, and swiftly stepped back.

Brilliance Graykind stared at her from across the arena.

"Good game," he said, "if we were in the arena, I would have been dead."

"That's kind of the point of all this training, isn't it?"

"Well, yes." he admitted.

Suddenly a voice came across the loudspeaker. Everyone paused what they were doing.

"Trainees, please report to the auditorium. We are picking our volunteers in five minutes. Don't be late."

The audio cut out. Brilliance walked over to her, and held out his hand.

"Good luck," he said, "I think that you have a real chance of getting picked. You're obviously better than I am."

She shook his hand. He was a smooth talker, and seemed cunning. She saw how he analyzed her moves. That ended up being his downfall. He paused for a split second, but she was quick, and cut through his defenses.

"Thanks!" she replied, "You're good too. Good luck to you as well."

She briskly walked over to her friend, Clarity Myral.

When she got there, Clarity had a huge grin on her face.

"Did you just win against Brilliance Graykind? He's the best trainee the boys have!" she exclaimed.

"Yes, I did. He pauses to evaluate my moves, so I was able to get an opening. After that, it was easy." she responded.

"Well, you're definitely going to get picked to volunteer this year. After beating him, it's guaranteed." Clarity said.

A few other girls wandered over.

"Is it true that you beat Brilliance Graykind?" one asked.

"Yes," Satin beamed, taking her hair down from her ponytail, "it wasn't really that hard."

"Wow. You're definitely going to get picked to volunteer this year!"

Satin smiled, her training personality (ambitious, driven, and no-nonsense) wearing off. Her social side came into full effect. She was in her element.

"Have you prepared a speech for when you get picked?" another queried.

"Of course!" she said, "Everyone has."

"Remember me when you win, Satin!"

"Will do!" she said, and winked.

By now, there was a whole crowd around Satin and Clarity, wanting to know all the details.

"One minute until trainees are chosen. Everyone please report to the auditorium."

"You heard the loudspeaker," Clarity said, "let Satin get to the auditorium! She'll answer all your questions then."

The girls backed off, and Satin and Clarity rushed towards the door to the auditorium.

Once they got inside, they took their seats in the front row, wanting to have the best view. The crowd that had surrounded them in the training room quickly took seats around them.

The Headmistress stepped onto the stage.

"Welcome, everyone. I am extremely pleased to present to you this year's chosen tributes. Our trainers and teachers have assessed each student individually, and they are confident that this year District One will have a winner."

Here, she paused, and Satin grinned, knowing what was going to happen, because she had sat through many of these before. However, this was the first year she actually had a chance of getting picked.

The Headmistress continued. " As you all know, this year we have had some truly outstanding students, and it was very hard to choose. However, there were two that truly came out on top. Can you please help me in congratulating Satin Winder and Brilliance Graykind!"

Cheers erupted from around Satin, exclaiming how excited they were for her, that she was going to win this year, that she absolutely HAD to tell them all about the Capitol when she got back.

Satin sashayed up to the stage, and the Headmistress gave her the microphone.

"First off, thank you so much!" she exclaimed, "I am so honored to be chosen to compete in this year's Hunger Games. I can't believe that I was given this amazing opportunity. I promise that I will lead District One to victory in this year's Hunger Games. If you have any contacts in the Capitol, please ask them to sponsor me so that I can come back home as a Victor! Thank you again, and thank you to all of the trainers, teachers, friends, and sparring partners that have helped me make it to where I am today. I will make you proud, I promise!"

As she stepped back from the microphone, the whole auditorium applauded.

She caught the eye of Brilliance, and gave him a smirk, knowing that he wouldn't be able to top her speech.

The Headmistress gave Brilliance the microphone, and he began to speak.

"Thank you, District One, for this wonderful opportunity. As I prefer to say things in as few words as possible, I will keep this speech short. I would just like to thank everyone who got me to this spot, and I am honored to be your tribute along with Satin."

The auditorium applauded again, although slightly less loud.

The Headmistress stepped up to say that they could all go home, and that she would see them again after the Reaping.

As soon as she dismissed them, a crowd surrounded Satin again.

"Satin, how does it feel to be chosen to volunteer?"

"Wonderful! I'm so excited and honored to represent our District." she said.

"I'll ask my parents if they know anyone in the Capitol that can sponsor you!"

"Thank you so much!"

"Do you know who your mentor is going to be?"

"No, but I should get something in the mail today from my mentor! I'm super excited to meet her!" Satin exclaimed!

She was full of adrenaline, but she knew that it was going to run out soon, so she quickly said her goodbyes, and walked home.

When she got inside, her family was there with a huge cake that said 'Congratulations Satin!' in fancy lettering.

"The Headmistress called us yesterday to tell us the news, and so we wanted to make a cake for you!" Satin's mom, Crown Winder, exclaimed.

"We're so proud of you!" her dad, Opal Winder, said.

"I helped!" Satin's little brother, Silver, piped up.

"It looks great guys! Thank you so much!" Satin was overwhelmed by the show of support that her family was showing, she started to tear up.

"Now, let's eat!"

A/N: I hope you liked the chapter! Sorry it was so short though, hopefully everything else will be longer. I try to do 1,000 words per tribute, and sometimes that hinders me. Thank you to loveableheart for Satin, I really enjoyed writing her. I published a website for Of Deceit and Trickery! It's on my profile, but it wasn't showing up properly, so here it is here.
