CHAPTER 05

Alex opened the door, expecting as every Thursday to see an insistent Goren, but she was disappointed not to see him.

He wasn't there!

Had he finally given up the idea that she could come back to him?

On the spot, she was reassured that he was not present, but instinctively worried about his absence.

It was very strange... He had been so tenacious with her, coming every Thursday for several months.

Would he really have changed on a whim, he who never gave up anything, he was so tenacious.

Machinally and with trembling hands, she dialed the number of Captain Hannah.

She would take news and it would go unnoticed that she was worried about Goren.

- Goren was wounded on duty!

Alex felt his heart stop.

She wavered, not feeling her legs.

She had to hold herself up against the wall.

She had had a bad feeling her last days, something inside her was telling her that something bad was going to happen.

But she never thought it would be Goren the most concerned.

It seemed as if she was connected to him by an invisible thread.

She tried to regain the upper hand, but her chest was hurting, preventing her from breathing.

She tapped her chest, trying to breathe.

- Alex?

She tried to breathe, trying to take a normal voice.

- Yes I'm here!

Hannah was relieved to hear her, because at the time he thought she had collapsed.

He knew that Goren and Eames were very attached to each other.

He knew that it would hurt Eames to know that Goren had been hurt.

But he didn't recognize her voice.

So it had touched him, even though she was trying to make him believe otherwise.

- He's in the JFK hospital in New York!

Alex practically hung up on Hannah and rushed to the hospital.

When she arrived at the hospital, she had hurried down the long corridor, finally arriving at the door of Goren's room.

She raised her fist ready to knock on the door, but held it back.

She was hesitant.

But these hesitations were based on the nurse's recollection of what she had been told by the nurse that he was pretty badly wounded in the fist.

And to think that she had done everything she could to run away from him, to run away from her feelings for him.

And the first chance she got, she was there.

In front of that door.

She lowered her arm, took a deep breath and entered the room.

At the vision of Goren on the bed, attached to wires connected to the monitor, her heart was clenched.

She approached, her hands trembling.

He was drowsy, his heavy breathing lifted his chest.

And to think that she had done everything she could to flee him.

And today she saw the result.

He was on a hospital bed, almost dying every time his breathing stopped and the monitor sounded, startled her.

If she had known...she wouldn't have run away from him.

She came to his side, crouching down and taking his hand in hers.

-Now I'm here beside you. Tears came to her eyes, her voice broke. I won't run away anymore! Be a fighter like you have always been!
