Butch
My mind hurts from all the thinking and regrets piling up as I make my way through the hiking trail. About half way through they start to organize themselves and I sit on a rock trying to think of how this all happened in the first place.
"I am a complete idiot."
"I could have told you that." I look up and Boomer is standing there smiling at me. I raise an eyebrow and he sighs.
"I followed you. I was afraid you where going to go do something stupid."
"It's too late for that. And I don't mean punching Brick."
"Hey I agree that was one of the rare times he needed to be put straight."
"Rare? I think he just mostly sees it coming and hides or at least gets a good punch in."
"That is very true." We laugh and look out at the trail ahead of us.
"When and hope did I let something so stupid get in my way of the only girl I've ever been in love with?"
"Ego, mostly I think. Believe your brother over her. I don't blame you either one of us would have done the same." I nod. "But hey at least you guys got back together!" I bite my tongue and nod again, forcing a smile on my face.
"But I don't think I actually won her back yet." Or at all.
"Then just keep trying. Make up for what happened and keep moving forward. What else are you supposed to do?"
"You're right. Maybe I should start by actually taking her out to dinner huh?"
"That would probably be best." I sigh and get up.
"Alright. Let's finish this before it gets dark.
"Or we can turn around and get some pizza?" He purses his lips and looks up at me eyebrows raised.
"Okay fine but if anyone asks we finished the trail in record breaking time."
"Of course?!"
Buttercup
I throw one of my stuffed animals at the door right as Bubbles walks in. She looks at it and frowns.
"They have feelings, you know?"
"At this moment I don't really care." She picks it up and walks over to my bed where I have been since I got home.
"You didn't come down for wrestling so I knew something was wrong." She reveals her other hand which is holding a cup of hot chocolate. "Hot Chocolate always helps though." I sit up a bit and take it. After a few sips and carefully setting the stuffed bunny near me again she speaks up.
"So you and Butch?" I nod and look away at my closet.
"Yeah we got back together finally."
"For real this time?" I don't look at her but just nod."Or is it just to prove a certain someone wrong?" I sigh and look at her.
"That is part of it. I knew he was always a good guy deep down. But then lying and keeping things from him didn't just hurt me but him as well. Some of me just want to prove her wrong but the other part of me…"
"Hopes there is still something there?"
"Yeah…" I shake my head and take another sip of hot chocolate.
"There's nothing wrong with that Buttercup."
"But I'd be lying if I said I didn't start all this just to hurt him and keep him at bay. It's just now there are so many other factors to it that I don't know where I stand anymore."
"And that's okay, you don't need to have all the answers right now… but if this is just for revenge. Well just be careful. You may end up getting hurt as well." I nod and grab the bunny holding it close to my chest.
"I'll let you be." She stands but I stop her.
"Just a few more minutes." She smiles and nods. She lays down with her head in my lap and we talk for the rest of the night.
