Author's Note: Alright. I'm back. Sorry it took me soooo long to update this but school has been kicking my butt this past month and I didn't have a ton of inspiration for these stories.

Hoshi-Ryuu: Thanks for the prompts! Really helped me to get going again with this fanfic, and I'm glad you enjoy the stories! I tried to write a short little one for the sunset prompt with this chapter, not my best work, but it definitely motivated me to continue this.

FirePheonix11: Thank you so much for your super kind reviews! I'm really glad you liked these stories haha. I'm also a huge Kainora shipper and this was my attempts at writing about them. Your Kainora fics are also really good, so keep at it! Thanks again!

DISCLAIMER: I obviously don't own LOK or any of the characters.

"Do you have to go?"

Kai sighed, rubbing a hand through his cocoa curls. "You know I do. Your dad has me stationed with Opal over near Ba Sing Se for about three months, I can't really refuse."

The couple was sitting on a balcony somewhere on Air Temple Island, legs precariously dangling over the edge. Tomorrow was the day they would be separated, Jinora staying at the temple while Kai traveled to the Earth Kingdom to keep order in the big city after the Earth Queen's demise a little more than two years ago. Each of them wanted to spend every second of time remaining in the presence of the other.

So they found themselves here, overlooking the calm waters of the bay flowing between the island and Republic City. The pastels of the sunset reflected of the water and danced across their vision, but neither could truly admire its beauty. Not while there was still a sense of impending doom for what was to come in the morning.

"I know," Jinora softly said. "It's just-" A quiet sob bubbled up, and the master airbender turned to press herself against his side. "I'm going to miss you. So, so m-much..."

Kai stood there for a second, surprised. Then he hugged her back. "Hey, don't worry," he whispered in her ear. "It won't be for long. Only a couple of months."

Jinora cried into his robes, burying her face into his shoulder as if she were trying to take in as much of him as possible. "That's s-still too long," she blubbered.

"We'll still be able to talk," he comforted, squeezing her tighter. "You can use your spirity powers." She let out a choked laugh, tears spilling from her doe eyes.

"A-and you'll write?"

"Every day. My penmanship skills have gotten a lot better thanks to a certain amazing teacher." That elicited another tremulous laugh from Jinora. Then an idea came to Kai, and he gently smiled at her. "I'll write you so many letters you'll get sick of emptying the messenger hawk."

"Never," she murmured, suspiring shakily and pulling away slightly from the embrace. Kai quickly reached up to wipe the tears from her cheeks, and she shot him a tender gaze. "Promise you'll visit."

"Of course I will. I could never stay away from you for too long."

She sniffed, scrubbing at her tears and smiling unsteadily at him. "It's a really pretty sunset."

"Yeah," he said, not taking his gaze off her. "It is."

Jinora was pulled into a passionate kiss, one they both poured all their emotions into; the sorrow, the fear, the uncertainty, but most importantly of all, the unconditional love. It was then the glowing orb sunk beneath the horizon, the orange and pink of the sky slowly fading into deep twilight. It would have been exquisite to watch, but the two airbenders had their sights set on something - or rather someone - else in that moment.

Their lips parted, and Kai fiercely hugged the girl below him, pressing a kiss to her temple. He could feel her arms wrap tightly around him as well, one final goodbye before the morning.

Her eyes were puffy and red, hair disheveled, and cheeks wet, but to Kai, she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
