Yes, I bet that last part of that last chapter was a real surprise!
And yes, Ryder was a bit rude in that last chapter, he was overwhelmed. If you have read my other story, you probably know that Ryder's schedule affects his OCD. Well, he was WAY off schedule!
Also, I'd like to thank MarshallV2018 for his continuous support!
"NO! HE HUNG UP!" I wailed.
"You did say he wouldn't believe it!" Kaya joked.
"That's not my point!" I growl. "If he doesn't believe me, I'll make him!"
I run out of my house and hop onto my scooter. It's hard to get a grip on the handlebars with my paws. I drive towards the Lookout Tower, ears flat against my head, tail streaming behind.
I parked my scooter a little ways near Ryder's ATV. Then, I hid in the bush and let out a mournful howl. When I heard footsteps, I changed to an agonized wail.
Then the bush parted and Ryder looked down surprised. I cowered and held up my paw. It was smeared with mouse blood so that it looked injured. I whimper.
"It's okay! Come here," He held out his hand for me to sniff.
He's lucky it's me and not a real fox, or he might've got his hand bit off. I hesitate, then slowly slide forward and sniff. I love his scent!
Then, as an ending to my act, I looked up at him with wide, fearful eyes.
"Aww, why don't you come and join us? You look hungry." He says.
Uh, yeah! I couldn't open my bag of Doritos! DUH! I whimper again.
He leaves, then returns a few minutes later with what smells like a turkey sandwich. He takes the turkey and gives it to me. I give it a cautious sniff. Then, as cautious as can be, I lick it. Then I snarf it down like I haven't eaten in years.
"Wow, you are hungry. Here, have the rest. I'm not hungry anyway." I tilt my head as he talks. He drops the rest of his sandwich at my paws. I repeat the process of caution, then eat it.
"Come on, I have more where that came from." Ryder invited. I wag my tail and follow him, limping. When we get to the kitchen, I start licking my 'injured' paw. He gets a bowl and fills it with turkey and some other random meat in his refrigerator. I sniff, then lick his hand and wag my tail as I eat.
He watches me carefully as I eat.
I sit up and lick my lips. "Thanks!" I bark. "I haven't eaten in weeks!"
A look of surprise flashes across Ryder's face. Then I hear heavy paw steps followed by sliding. I dash over and pull Ryder clear of Marshall.
"Woah!" Ryder shouts.
"Oof" Marshall crashes into the counter and falls into the bowl I was eating out of. "Ryder, I nearly bowled you over!"
We all laugh. Then Marshall notices me. "Who's that?"
"I'm Kitty!" I announce. "Ryder fed me."
Ryder laughs. Then, looking serious, he crouched down to my level. "Did you really mean it when you said you haven't eaten in weeks?"
A look of shock passes over Marshall's face. "Who do you belong to?"
I look down at my paws and let my tail droop. "Yes. It's true."
"Who do you belong to?" Marshall repeats.
I whimper. "No one." I manage to cry a little too. Man, I'm good!
Anger flashes across Ryder's face. I cower. "Don't worry, you're no longer a stray, little one." He soothed.
"You mean we're keeping her?" Marshall asked.
"Yes." Ryder replies. I look up. He gives me a scratch behind the ears. "It's time to start working on your gear!" He gets up and looks over his shoulder, "Are you coming?"
I jump up with my tail wagging all over the place. "Wait for me!" I slide across the kitchen floor happily
A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER-
"Do you promise to never say no to a yelp for help?" Ryder asked, holding up my new Pup Tag.
"I promise!" I yip.
"Welcome to the PAW Patrol!" Ryder gives me a scratch behind the ears. "I give you this Pup Tag because you are PAW Patrol's own backup pup! Your vehicle can match and combine any of their vehicles. And since you are the backup pup, your number is 1.5."
Chase growls. "But I'm secondary!"
"Backup before secondary!" I howl.
"One more thing, you know more about my Myoclonus than I do. You will also be my service fox." Ryder announces.
My tail wags even harder. I was indeed the one who knew what to do when Ryder had a seizure. I puff out my chest. I'm Ryder's go to for assistance!
Then, interrupting our celebration, Ryder's Puppad rang. We automatically sit in our assigned spots, me closest to the slide, and Ryder's rescue pole.
"Don't worry! The PAW Patrol is on it!" Ryder hung up and pushed a button. "Pups, we've got a pretty bad situation here..."
I sniff. No seizure coming, we're good.
"... Marshall, I'll need you to use your ladder to help Rocky reach the 'hard to reach' places." Ryder slid his finger across his Puppad.
"I'm ready for a ruff ruff rescue!" Marshall shouts.
"Rocky, I'll need you to use your super fix it skills to patch it up."
"Green means go!"
"And…" He slides his finger across the screen again. "Kitty. Since you're my service pup, you'll have to come with me."
"Rahf, Rahf! Seizure response pup is on a roll!" I swipe my paws through the air.
"Alright! PAW Patrol is on a roll!" Ryder runs to his rescue pole and slid downward. Marshall and Rocky went down the slide, while I peered down the rescue pole to make sure Ryder got down safely. Then, I jumped onto the slide.
As soon as I got out into the open, I stood on my front paws, then landing on my new and improved scooter, I took off.
I caught up to Ryder and made sure he was all right. When we got there, I gave Ryder a more throughout sniffing. He laughed.
I sat. "Not funny!" I growled playfully.
"Okay Marshall. It's ladder time!" Ryder orders.
"Who's this?" Mayor Goodway reached down to pet me.
"Stop!" Ryder said. "This is my service fox. She's not to be pet while she's working."
Mayor Goodway blinked with understanding. I sniffed Ryder one more time. I pant. My sniffin is the only warning we have if Ryder's about to have a seizure. Rocky climbed the ladder to patch the hot air balloon.
I sniff Ryder's arm again. Uh oh,
I howl. Ryder looks at me puzzled. "Ryder! Seizure alert!" I hissed. "GET DOWN!"
