Like everyday prior, I had woken up before everyone else.
I grab my glasses and put them up, sitting up with a stifled yawn. The clock above the cabin door read "4:20am"
That number always made me miss home, primarily my parents.
I stared at the clock until a minute had passed.
"4:21am" It read.
Thats better.
The bed creaked as I leaned over to look down, checking if anyone else had woken up.
Luckily, it was just me- and it seems that Travis had fell asleep without changing.
I grabbed my clothes and got dressed, then slowly and carefully stepped down the ladder to the floor.
The old planks groaned under my feet. I could see dust particles dancing around in the sunbeams that peaked through the windows.
It was nice out, I could tell it wasn't burning like yesterday.
I checked the door to see if it had been unlocked, and to my suprise it creaked open. I was hit with a breeze of fresh forest air, the kind that made your nose stuffy- but it was nice. Refreshing, even.
I closed the door behind me as I stepped outside, looking over to cabin number one. I knew my friends wouldn't be awake this early, nobody was. There was no use checking.
The trees swayed in the breeze, the birds have just begun to sing their goodmornings.
I had to walk down a dirt pathway through the trees to the bathrooms to brush my teeth. The walk took maybe 3 minutes.
The boys bathrooms were grimy with concrete floors. There was only two sinks, one toilet, and one shower. I felt truly lucky to have beaten the morning rush.
I took my toothbrush out of my bag and headed over to one of the sinks. I looked down into it, and much to my disgust, I saw a centipede.
It felt my shadow looming over it and scuddled down the drain.
I looked up, cringing. There was a mirror that was too dusty to see anything in the reflection.
As I brushed my teeth I wondered what made this place so desirable. Maybe the counselors had something fun in store for today.
I was so lost in thought that I hadn't noticed I had gotten company.
Travis Phelps was standing at the doorway with jumbled new clothes in his arms. He looked suprised to see me, but that suprise quickly turned to embarrassment.
My mouth was full of toothpaste, so I just looked at him. I couldn't say a thing.
"What are you fucking looking at?" He quickly walked past me and into the shower stall. I didn't hear anything else, and I could see his shoes standing still.
I spit into the sink and rinsed my mouth, dropping my toothbrush back into my bag. I stared at the stall door, standing equally still as Travis on the other side.
"...can you leave."
I could barely hear what Travis had murmured. It took me a second.
"Uh- oh yeah. Yeah. I'll go." I answered, leaving the bathroom.
I heard the shower start as I left.
