A/N Hey, guys. Welcome back to the fifth chapter of the Riverdale fanfic series focusing on my OCs Luke and Leia Hawthorne. First of all, I hope you guys are staying safe out there since we're still living in the world of the pandemic. Second, I want to thank you guys for your amazing support so far. And third, this fourth chapter will focus on the cheerleading tryouts while Luke finds an extracirrcular activity to participate in. I will have character pairings soon, so keep an eye out for that. But anyway, this is the fifth chapter of The Hawthorne Twins Season One fanfic, and let's get to it.
I only own my OCs Luke and Leia Hawthorne.
"We're blue and gold!" Leia, Veronica and Betty chanted, waving pom-poms.
The girls are in the gymnasium, trying out for spots on Cheryl Blossom's cheerleading squad; the River Vixens.
"We're dynamite!
We're dynamite!
We'll take you down and fight!
We'll take you down and fight!"
Tina, Cheryl, and Ginger; dressed in Vixens cheerleading uniforms watched Leia, Veronica and Betty audition. Cheryl takes notes and other cheerleaders also watched.
"We'll fight!
We'll fight!"
"Whoo! Go Bulldogs!" Veronica cheered.
Cheryl looked somewhat skeptical.
"Hmm. Ladies, where's the heat?" She asked. "Where's the sizzle?"
"Well, you haven't seen our big finish yet." Veronica replied.
She took Betty by the arm.
"Don't freak out, just trust me." The ex-socialite assured the blonde.
Veronica suddenly pulls Betty closer and kissed her on the lips.
'Really? At a time like this?' Leia asked herself sarcastically.
They turn to Cheryl and her cronies. They were not buying it at all.
"Check your sell-by date, ladies." Cheryl said bluntly. "Faux-lesbian kissing hasn't been taboo since 1994."
"So, let's see if you do better with the interview portion."
"Betty. How are your parents doing?" Cheryl questioned. "Have they found your sister?"
Veronica glanced at Betty.
"Um, they're fine. And no, they haven't. The police are still looking for her. Thanks for asking." Betty answered calmly.
"Oh, this can't be good." Leia said to herself.
"Veronica, has Betty told you about her sister?" Cheryl inquired.
"Uh, no," said Veronica.
"Go ahead, Betty." Cheryl advised. "Tell Veronica about your sister and my dear brother."
Veronica frowned and Betty began to clench her fists.
"Polly and Jason dated," She said to Veronica.
"I wouldn't say dated," Cheryl remarked.
"It didn't end well," Betty added.
"In fact, Jason's probably why your sister reached her breaking point…and now she ran away, the same day JJ drowned. Isn't it?" Cheryl asked, with sharpness in her tone.
"That's what my parents think," Betty pointed out.
"What do you have to say about that, Betty?" Cheryl pressed.
"Go ahead, the floor is yours. Whatever you've been dying to spew about Jason and how he treated Polly…unleash it. Destroy me. Tear me a new one. Rip me to shreds. Annihilate me." Cheryl taunted, her words laced with venom. She did not hold back on expressing her resentment and hatred towards Betty. The fact that Jason ended up running away with Polly to some farm, to start over and have a family. On top of it, her own twin brother intended to marry his pregnant girlfriend, Betty and Polly will be Cheryl's sisters-in-laws and Cheryl will be stuck in Riverdale…plus, not attend Jason's wedding.
"Hey, could you cut it out? You're just provoking one of my childhood best friends." said Leia.
Anger boiled up inside Betty as Cheryl verbally attacked her. Oh, how Betty wanted to chew Cheryl out. She balled up her fists, allowing her fingernails to dig into the palms of her hands; leaving red half-moon marks.
"I just…" Betty began to say, holding her anger and tears.
"Betty, don't do it." said Leia.
"Finally," said Cheryl, waiting to hear what Betty had to say about her brother.
Betty let go of her fists.
"I just wanted to say I'm sorry." She said. "About what happened to Jason. I can't imagine what you and your family must be through."
Leia calmed her racing heart, taking a relaxing breath.
"That could've been really bad for my first tryouts." Leia said to Veronica.
"Right," said Cheryl.
"Veronica. Welcome to the River Vixens." She addressed the Latina girl, smiling.
"Betty…better luck next time." Cheryl said in a condescending tone; her face showing disdain.
"And you too, Leia Hawthorne." Cheryl added.
"Oh, she did not just say that." said Leia as she felt anger building inside of her.
"Wait, what?" Veronica asked, frowning. "Why? Because you couldn't bully Betty into being a bitch?"
"I need girls with fire on my squad." Cheryl replied.
"You don't get to decide which ones you pick and the ones who don't get make it to your cheerleading squad, Cheryl." Leia said firmly.
"I know what you need, Cheryl." Veronica said. "Because I know who you are. You would rather people fear than like you. So, you traffic in terror and intimidation. You're rich, so you've never been held accountable. But I'm living proof…that certainty, that entitlement you wear on your head like a crown…it won't last. Eventually, there will be a reckoning. Or maybe…that reckoning is now. And maybe that reckoning…is me."
At this point, Veronica had stepped forward to Cheryl.
"Leia, Betty and I come as a matching set." She continued, sharply.
"You want one, you take us both. Including Leia too."
Betty couldn't help but smile, thankful for Veronica defending her.
"You wanted fire?" Veronica asks. "Sorry, Cheryl Bombshell, my specialty is ice."
The flame-haired queen bee opens her mouth a bit and closed it, pursing her lips. Her eyes showed defeat. Veronica Lodge had put Cheryl in her place. And now, she must put up with Betty Cooper and Leia Hawthorne on her squad. Little did both Betty and Veronica know, that Cheryl is keeping a big secret about Jason's "death", Polly's disappearance, and their whereabouts. But Leia would soon know the big secret too.
Meanwhile with Luke, the sixteen year old twin walked in the hallways, trying to find an extracirrcular activity that would be offered for him, but he isn't too sure what would be the best one for him.
While he was walking down the hallway, his phone rings and he brings it out of his pocket, he quickly ran into a nearby boys' washroom, walked into one of the stalls before he locked the door and answered the phone call.
"Hey mom." said Luke as he answered.
"Hi, honey. How's school going?" asked Natalie.
"It's good. Leia went to the cheerleading tryouts with Betty and Veronica." Luke replied.
"I'm glad to hear it, honey. You should find an extracirrcular activity you're interested in since it is your first year as a sophomore. And I want to hear good results from you kids later at the end of the day." said Natalie.
"I will, mom." said Luke.
Just then, the bell rang, signalling for the next class.
"Speaking of school, that's my cue to get to my next class now." said Luke.
"Alright, take care honey. Dad and I will see you at the end of the day." said Natalie.
"Bye mom. I love you." said Luke.
"I love you too, honey. Get to class or you'll be late." said Natalie as she hung up.
Luke puts the phone away from his pocket and hurried off to his next class.
'I wonder if school has a sports team that I could join. They probably don't have a basketball team here. I should try out for something that would interest me.' he thought.
He looked outside where he saw Archie in a football uniform along with the other boys, also wearing the football uniforms.
'I haven't played football in a while now since I only played basketball. Maybe trying out for the football team wouldn't hurt.' Luke thought.
And I will end the fifth chapter there for now. So what do you guys think of the chapter so far? Love it? Hate it? In the next chapter, Luke tries out for the football team and Leia will learn about Jason and Polly's dating history while engaging in a heart to heart conversation with Betty and Veronica. The back to school semi formal chapter is coming soon, I promise you guys. I know I said this before, but this time, I do mean it. I do want to apologize for not updating because of the final semester, focusing on my other projects, and trying my best to stay safe. Also, I'm really excited since Riverdale is returning with the sixth season even though the fifth season had just started airing on TV. I will start the character pairings soon as I go along. So yeah, that's pretty much it. The sixth chapter is coming soon and more secrets will be exposed and revealed. Take care of yourselves and your loved ones, keep washing and sanitizing your hands, keep wearing protection, and continue drinking water to keep yourselves hydrated.
