Thank you for all the reviews. I have loved writing this story so I'm glad you are liking it. I am a few chapters ahead so decided to post another one today.

I hope you like this chapter, more action in the next few chapters. Hope you like it and review.

Jay is more than ready to get back to work. He had spent the last week between Will's house and the hospital for follow up tests. He also drove around the city to familiarize himself with any changes. He got the all clear from the doctor. All his scans were good, and he would regain his memory any time. According to Will it might come back all at once or bits and pieces but it should be soon.

Adam, Kim and Makayla had come over to visit him a few times. He was glad they were finally together, and he bonded with Makayla immediately. She was a sweet kid and kept telling him stories of their adventures, which always seemed to begin with when you, me and aunt Hailey. Adam and Kim talked to him about the changes in the precinct and in their personal life. Kevin also came by with Vanessa. He liked the young officer right away. She was full of energy and very enthusiastic about working in intelligence with them. Voight also visited him a few times and even Sergeant Platt came over to check in on him.

The only one that hadn't come see him was Hailey. Although they were texting constantly and had started going over their day right before bed in a phone call.

That first night at Will's he went through his texts with Hailey and was surprised at how open he was with her. There were playful texts, work texts and even texts where he was talking about his time in the military. He hadn't shared that part of his life with anyone before but he did with her. And there were so many texts where he told her he loved her.

The next morning she had texted him again.

H-Good morning. Did you have a good night?

J-I fell sleep early. I guess I was more tired than I thought.

H-You are injured Jay your body needs rest to heal, even if you always insist you are fine

J-I suppose.

H-Any big plans for today?

J-Not really, maybe drive around a little. Can't be cooped up in here too long.

H-Sounds good, the truck has gps if you get disoriented or lost and you can always call if you need help.

J-Ok. What about you?

H- I am at work already. Thankfully a slow day.

J- Can't wait to go back myself.

H- One week goes by fast. I gotta go, we have a suspect in interrogation. Check in later?

J- You bet.

And that had been the whole week, he would text her for the stupidest things like his debit card pin which he had changed to their wedding date, his health insurance information because the department had changed plans, how to operate some things in his phone because apparently in 6 years a lot changes in technology and every little thing he didn't get or understand. She always replied and was very patient with him.

After his second day solo he was typing a text to her asking for details on Adam and Kim when he realized it would be easier if they could just speak so he asked her if it was okay, she said yes, and he dialed her a second later.

"So Adam and Kim? When did that happen?" He heard her laugh and realized he liked her laugh. It was the first time he had heard her laugh.

"Which time? I mean those two have been together and apart about 4 times. But this time over a year or so. It was when Makayla got appendicitis and had to have emergency surgery. He never left Kim's side and all of the sudden they were back together. No one was surprised though they have been in love for years."

"I agree. And Makayla is very sweet."

"She is a sweetheart. She saw her whole family murdered and went through so much, and yet she is always happy."

"Wow so much for a child to deal with. She told me about some of our adventures, as she calls them."

"Well that's your fault. The first time Kim asked us to babysit we were terrified. Its crazy we go into dangerous situations every day but babysitting a kid for 8 hours had us afraid. Anyways you came up with this plan to take her on a scavenger hunt through the park and called it an adventure. Ever since then she always wants more adventures with us. So every time we stayed with her we would plan something fun, another adventure."

"Sounds like good times." He heard her sigh. " Can I ask you something personal?"

"Of course."

"Can you tell me about us?"

"What do you want to know?"

"Whatever you feel like telling me I want to know about our life."

And that's how every night went. They would spend an hour on the phone while Hailey told him stories about them and Jay asked questions.

Now he stood outside the precinct and he was nervous. Nervous to be back to work and nervous about seeing Hailey. He walked in to see Platt behind the desk, nothing new there.

"Good morning detective. You decided to grace us with your presence."

"Morning Sarge finally got cleared."

"Good to have you back Halstead. Maybe blondie will stop moping now."

He didn't answer her instead went back up thankfully the code he remembered still worked. The desks were a little different than he remembered but other than that it looked the same. Kevin was the first one to see him and got up to give him a hug.

"Good to have you back man."

"Thanks Kev."

Adam, Kim, and Vanessa also welcomed him with hugs. Hailey smiled at him and went back to her desk.

Voight came out of his office. "Jay good to have you back."

"Thanks Sarge."

"Come into my office lets chat."

He walked in and closed the door after Voight motioned him to do it and sit down.

"How are you feeling Jay?"

"Good. Doctor cleared me for duty."

"How about your memory."

"Nothing yet but it could be any day now. But sarge I can work. Police work is still the same right? And I'm sure Upton can catch me up on anything I need updating." He hadn't really discussed with Hailey how their professional partnership worked so he decided to stick to impersonal to make sure there were no boundaries crossed.

"Actually, you'll be partnered with Atwater."

"I thought Hailey was my partner. Did she ask for the switch?"

"Upton's actually helping Platt with a case and is working from here."

"I see. Ok."

"Good. Let me know if you need help with anything."

Jay went back out to the bullpen. Hailey pointed to the desk across from her and he sat down. "Hi"

"Hi, you look much better. The bruises are almost gone."

"Thankfully. I can see my face again."

"Everything good with Voight?"

"Yeah, I guess I am partnered up with Kevin."

"You've been working with him for the last month or so."

"So you've been working with Platt for that long. You must be going crazy in here."

"A little but yeah. But it's worth it." Hailey had asked everyone not to mention her pregnancy. She didn't want to drop the big bomb on him yet, so they've come up with the helping Platt excuse for her being on desk duty.

"So what do I do now? Are we working a case? Do I have paperwork to finish?"

"We actually just finished a case but there is always paperwork to do."

"Of course. Can you help me with this computer, its not the one I had, and it doesn't seem to want to turn on?" She laughed at that and Jay felt happy. How could her laugh make him feel happy?

"Yeah we finally got upgraded computers like three years back. Here let me help you."

She walked around to his side, took his mouse, and started typing something. Jay had a weird feeling, like dejavu. She was so close he could hear her breathing and when her arm touched his shoulder they both turned to look at each other, their faces less than an inch apart and his heart started racing.

She then cleared her throat and went back to her desk, "You are all good. We switched to using our work id to log in. Do you remember that number?"

All he could do was nod. Still reeling from what he was feeling. How could a simple touch and being close to her make him feel so different, he couldn't quite describe it. Suddenly he was craving to be that close to her again, to smell her and touch her.
