"Bring Your Pet To School Day?"
Sam and The Slayer looked over the school note that Erma had shown Emiko earlier.
"Yep. You know what that means."
"You do remember what happened LAST time we tried to get a pet, right?" Sam asked as The Slayer became confused.
"Let's just say we were banned for a while when the birds all died of shock from seeing Erma..." Emiko explained with a sigh.
"I see..." The Slayer said, deciding to take Emiko's word for it as she then gave the two men a reassuring smile.
"Don't worry, I found a place where we won't run into the same problem. And besides, Erma's been a bit moody since I said 'No'."
"How bad is it?" Sam asked as he and The Slayer went upstairs to Erma's room. When the door was opened, what they saw was something that looked like a fusion of The Exorcist and Poltergeist put together. Stuff was flying everywhere and Erma was floating in the middle screaming like a Banshee.
"GET THE KEYS!"
After calming Erma down, The Slayer and the Williams Family got into the van and drove out into a rather secluded area in the Blairwood Forest. They arrived at what looked like a morgue of sorts, heading inside, it was actually a Pet Store for monsters.
The Slayer had to admit that the place was relatively well-kept, even if there were some incidents going on, such as a Wolfman employee trying to restrain a Kraken.
"Hello. We're here to find a pet for our daughter Erma." Emiko said to the old hag working at the front desk, who smiled sweetly in response.
"Certainly my dear. Right, this way."
The four of them followed the old hag into the room where they kept the "pets" and saw several monsters. The Hag had warned them to be careful as the so-called pets get "excited" when seeing new people. The Slayer took that as a cue to have his Super Shotgun out and glared at any monsters to keep their hands, claws, tentacles, and whatever to themselves if they knew what's good for them.
Suffice to say the monsters learned quickly not to antagonize The Slayer who clearly was more fearsome than all of them combined, some of them resumed glaring and hissing while others went into the back corners of their cells and whimpered.
The Hag saw all of this and just laughed an evil cackle. "Well, that certainly got them to behave. They can be so naughty and rambunctious at times."
The Slayer smirked behind his helmet before looking to see who appeared to be the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters playing on the Harmonica. The two noticed each other and nodded their heads silently in greeting before The Slayer caught up with the Willaims to see a surprise; A perfectly normal-looking puppy dog.
"What the...?" Sam questioned as the old hag grinned.
"Oh, I wouldn't choose that one if I were you. He's….TEETHING at the moment."
The Slayer gave the dog an affectionate rub on the head as it grinned happily while wagging its tail, showing bear trap-like teeth that looked like they could chew through solid concrete as if it was made of wet tissue paper. The Slayer looked further into its cell and saw several desecrated bones.
"I'm sure you will be adopted someday. Do not lose hope." The Slayer gently said to the dog, giving it one last affectionate scratch behind the ear as it yipped happily before he went back with the Willaims, who were unable to find the right pet.
As the Williams Family got lunch, The Slayer was reflecting on the day while drinking a chocolate milkshake through a special induction port in his helmet since he didn't want to go through the hassle of taking it off then putting it back on again.
Considering Erma's nature and that many animals are sensitive to the Supernatural, the perfect pet would either need to be something Supernatural as well or something that had a spell placed on it to prevent unnecessary accidents and be able to put itself back together if it got into said accidents.
After lunch, the family drove into a special area in the woods and came across an old gypsy cart with a short old Gypsy woman waiting outside. She was wrapped in a blanket and standing next to a box that said "Free Puppies".
Sam fixed his glasses. "Yep, seems legit."
"Free Puppies! Come get a free Fushi Puppy!" The Gypsy woman said as she noticed she had visitors. The way she spoke obviously meant she didn't find much thrill or cared about it.
Emiko gently pushed Erma over the box that contained the puppies. "Go ahead Erma, pick one out."
As Sam was talking with the Gypsy woman, the Slayer watched over Erma as she looked into the box of puppies. All of them looked like they had seen something so horrible, no man could ever hope to know, least they go insane themselves.
Most of the puppies backed away from Erma nervously but then one little dog poked his nose into her palm. Its breed appeared to be a Bullhuahua Terrier that was friendly yet curious about the little half ghost girl. Suffice to say, it was obvious that Erma knew that the puppy was the one.
The Slayer, Emiko, and Sam all watched and smiled at the heartwarming scene. It was then that Emiko noticed a pained look in The Slayer's eyes as he took in the scene of Erma and the dog.
"Is everything okay, Slayer?"
"No..."
Before they left the forest with their new dog, Siris, the Gypsy gave a warning to The Slayer, apparently knowing he was from a different world.
"Protect your new family, Slayer, especially the little girl. There are things in this world that would stop at nothing to get their hands on her and use her for their own ends or possibly hurt her. Rip and Tear until it is done, for you are the Doom Slayer. Don't bring them forgiveness and don't give them mercy.
Suffice to say it reinforced the vow he made to himself on the day he came to Blairwood. Despite being a peaceful town, there was always the possibility of ill-intention people lurking about and hiding among the locals. Like Erma's former babysitter, for example, Felicia did mention the woman having been sent to a Mental Asylum due to being scared off by Erma's pranks. There was always the possibility of her wanting revenge so if he had enough time, he could probably ask around for the woman's name and where she lives so he could talk to her.
Said talk would probably involve threats, his Chainsaw, and possibly the BFG 9000 if push came to shove.
It was to keep Erma safe after all and to remind certain people that they couldn't get away with any type of sick shit that went on in their heads.
Say what you think about his methods, but at least acknowledge he took his vows seriously. He had killed humans before in his crusade against evil, and he would not hold back.
The next day, The Slayer was throwing out some garbage into the garbage bin when he noticed a rustle in the nearby bushes. Not sure if it was a random animal or some idiot doing some late-night drinking, The Slayer approached cautiously, readying his Doomblade in case it was hostile.
When he pushed the bushes away, what he saw made his eyes widen in absolute shock and disbelief.
"It...can't be..."
It was a little brown bunny rabbit, shivering in the cold wind as it huddled into itself for warmth. When it noticed The Slayer, it looked up with its little beady eyes widening in recognition, its ears twitching and standing up as The Slayer shakily reached his hand out to gently touch its nose, begging for this not to be some cruel trick.
The bunny affectionately nuzzled up closer to his hand and that was when he knew there was no mistake about it. It was her, after all these years, it was her.
"Daisy..."
As the bunny happily hopped into his arms, the Slayer wrapped his arms around his lost companion, and, for the first time in centuries...he wept.
Unbeknownst to the weeping Slayer, a young man with glasses and curly black hair was smiling at the scene before walking off, fading away into golden light, his work having been done.
*Omake: Visitor*
The Williams Family were more than happy to welcome Daisy after they got over their surprise of seeing The Slayer's long-thought dead pet alive and well. Daisy and Siris got along quite well together, the dog being very protective of the rabbit, even letting her sleep on his head.
Life was good at that moment. The Slayer no longer had to fight demons, they were wiped out from existence. He was in a new world, free from the scourge, and he was actually part of a family now. For the first time since the Night Sentinels, he had a place to belong.
*DING-DONG*
"Who's it?"
Sam got up from the chair, rubbing Siris' head affectionately. "I'll get it."
As Sam opened the door, he saw it was some kind of horrific abomination. Without even batting an eye at the sight, he turned to Emiko.
"Honey, I think it's for you!"
Next Time: Halloween Time!
Yes, I brought back Daisy!
