Bella decided to make her way back to the Captain America Museum to see what she could learn. She hadn't paid attention last time too worried about being found by Victoria. By the time she got there it was almost closing, still she went in. When they announced that everyone needed to leave, Bella hid behind some of the displays. There was only one guard on duty and he was an elderly man. She waited till it was quiet than got up and looked around. She found the security guard asleep at his desk. Good she thought, I can take my time. As she walked around she learned a lot about Captain America. The man was a hero so why was he being treated like a criminal. She saw that Bucky used to be a part of the Captain's team decades ago. How were they still young? She wondered.
Walking into the next room Bella found a glass monument to Bucky. She stood there reading about how he and Steve (AKA Captain America) where child hood friends. They grew up together, fought together but it said that Bucky had died in the line of duty. No wonder the Captain had been so stunned earlier, he probably thought that Bucky was dead to.
Bella stood in front of Bucky's picture just admiring it. Something was screaming inside her that he needed help and she prayed that the Captain would be willing to rescue his friend. She lifted her hand and placed it on the picture. Bella was in her own world as she continued to read Bucky's life story. So entranced was she, that she hadn't heard someone walk up behind her.
A throat cleared and she spun around so fast she lost balance but a firm hand reached out and caught her. She looked up to see the Captain her eyes growing wide with fear. "Crap" She muttered but he only smirked.
"So who are you? And why did I see you earlier? Do you know Bucky?"
Bella stood up straight but blushed. What was she supposed to say? She opened her mouth to respond when she noticed that he was wearing his old uniform. The uniform from the display in the other room…. Bella snorted. "I don't know if I want to tell a thief that."
The Captain looked down. "Well….. technically it was mine first."
"How are you still young?"
"I was frozen."
"Is that why Bucky is young to?"
He seemed to think about it. "That would actually explain a lot." He muttered.
"So you didn't know he was alive…. I'm sorry you found out that way. It must be hard since he's your best friend." Bella said softly.
"How long have you known him?" He asked. No judgement just curiosity.
"I'll tell you everything I know though it's very little if you tell me what's going to happen to him. What are you going to do to him?" Bella was scared. He didn't deserve to be punished; the man barely knew what was going on around him! He didn't even know his own name for Christ's sake!
"My team mates are telling me that they don't think he can be helped. That I might have to…. Stop him. Permanently." He said sadly
Bella's eyes watered, tears slipping down her cheeks. "No!" She said and pushed him away. "You can't!"
"I never said I was going to. I don't think I can. He didn't even recognize me…." Captain said with hurt in his voice. "I don't know if there's still good in him but I want to find out."
Bella stepped closer and grabbed the Captain's hand squeezing. "There is still good in him. I know. It's how I met him."
He quickly looked up at her. "What do you mean?" She could hear the hope in his voice.
"He saved my life. Three…. Men were about to kill me. He rescued me. Than he saved me again another time."
"He didn't try to hurt you?"
"No not at all."
The Captain smiled. "Then I'm saving him. No matter what. Til the end of the line."
"End of the line?" Bella asked.
"It's what we always told each other before. It meant we would always be there for the other."
"Til the end of the line." She whispered with a smile. "I want to help. Please let me help."
"I don't know….. I'm sorry what's your name?"
"Bella!" She said standing up straight and saluting him. The Captain chuckled.
"It's going to be dangerous Bella. I can't let you too close."
"I'll do anything. I just need to see him. Please."
"Why is this so important to you. I know you said he saved your life but you hardly know him."
"I know enough." The Captain lifted an eyebrow at her. She sighed and continued. "I've spoken to him some. Once when he saved me the first time. His eyes cleared up and he asked my name and I told him but right after his eyes glazed over and his body became rigid. Like… he was being controlled somehow. I saw him again the second time he saved me. Than the list time I saw him his eyes stayed glazed like he had been rebooted or something. He didn't remember saving me just a week before! I even asked his name and he said he didn't know!"
Bella noticed as the Captain soaked all this information in, nodding his head as he processed. "Anything else you can tell me?" He asked
"Just that when our eyes met, he remembered my name. He didn't remember meeting me but he did remember my name. I know I can help you get through to him. I can't explain it, it's just this feeling." She pleaded for him to believe her.
"Alright. I'm going to give you an address, it's where we are going tomorrow. We expect he may show up. Help me keep an eye out for him."
"Thank you thank you thank you!" Bella hugged him tightly and bounced up and down.
He chuckled and patted her back. "Exchange numbers with me. I want you to be there but stay OUTSIDE the building. We have no idea what we are walking into tomorrow. I'll keep you updated though. We're going to save him Bella." His voice strong, confident.
"I know we will." She smiled softly. Bella than looked around. They had been there a while now she was surprised the guard hadn't woken up and came by again. "Um we should probably break out this joint first." She giggled.
Steve cleared his throat and rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "Uh yea, let's not mention this to anyone."
"Fine by me but if we get caught I'm totally saying it was your idea." She giggled taking off.
"No fair." He huffed following quickly behind her.
