Summary: Let the day be known when fire tested gold in the most intimate sense. The forging of a mating bond between the dragon-demon hybrid and celestial maiden while further strengthening the relationship they already have. Natsu finally confesses his romantic feelings for Lucy at and asks to claim her as his mate and queen; though not without it taking a bit for it to fully sink in for the poor, baffled woman. The first chapter is one of my entries for Nalu Lovefest 2019 and part of my ongoing Nalu (The Demon-Dragon and His Celestial Princess) anthology series set not too long after the events of the original manga/anime.(Slight Au).
Fire and Gold Chapter 5: Dreams and Plans
A/N: Hello, wonderful peeps! Tis I , your quirky and geeky fangirl back again after the cherry blossoms started to bloom lol. Hope you're all doing well and staying safe during these turbulent times. Anyways, I'm here with another installment of Fire and Gold for your reading pleasure! And I might add there's plenty of fluffy Nalu/Endlu and comedic goodness ( including classic sheignagns between one of everyone's favourite BROTP Natsu and Gray)! Special thanks to the superb MannyEGB for helping me to further develop and edit this chapter again! Now without further ado, here's Chapter 5 of Fire and Gold-Enjoy!

"Yeah, I bet. Though your protective instincts have always been strong—especially when it comes to bunny girl, even before today. "
Lucy watched the dragon slayer's impromptu discussion on instincts with inquisitive eyes
Interesting.…seems like a really good way to quickly learn more about Natsu's instincts even if it doesn't fully cover all the bases yet...
"What are you going to do about those other guys looking to get some from her?"
"Probably hit em' up in the spots they hang out the most in," Natsu put forward, voice dropping into a thinly-veiled threat. "Have a little chat, make sure they know just who my woman now belongs to."
"Sounds like a legit plan." The iron dragon slayer praised, interest clearly piqued. "Hibki will have enough sense to respectfully bow out of the arrangement. Always been classy like that. Don't know about the others though. What if they can't seem to take the hint and fall in line?"
"Then giving those bastards a good thrashing should be convincing enough to get my point across."
A distinct noise of the fire wizard's knuckles cracking could be heard — as if to further empathize his point.
"Ya' need some extra help browbeating any of those idiots into submission? "
"Ooh there's an idea!" Natsu chirped, already perking up to Gajeel's approval. "I really appreciate the help— thanks man!"
"No problem" Gajeel replied, a diabolical gleam in his eyes. "I'm glad to be of service— consider it part of sticking to the dragon slayer bro code. We look out for our own and their mates. Seriously though, those unlucky dumbasses aren't gonna know which way is up after we're done with em."
"You're telling me!" The fire dragon slayer let out a loud cackle of demented glee. "Gonna leave plenty of scorch marks all over their asses. Nothing permanent of course— but all that should definitely put those numbskulls in their place and teach em' not to ever trying steal from a dragon. I'm all fired up now!"
"Hell yeah—Me too ,bro!"
"Well Lucy" Cana chimed in, anticipation coloring her otherwise dry tone. " Think it's pretty safe to bet that some of those former 'suitors' are pretty much screwed if they don't get the memo to back off once the news about you and Nastu breaks. Don't think they will though and not just cuz I'm picking up serious vibes from my cards."
"At least Hibiki can be counted on," Juvia pointed out with a slight roll of her eyes. He won't have any problem accepting things as they are and agreeing to just move on without a fuss and to keep things strictly cordial. Can't say the same for those others though. Honestly, they have no concept of just how intricate, intimate, or precious bonds between dragon slayers-slash-demon hybrids and their beloved are. Or romantic relationships in general."
"Well, it's to be expected," Levy concurred, less taken back than amused. "Something like that being way over their heads, I mean. Ooh- that reminds me, Lu!" Realization dawned on her face as as though recalling some juicy tidbit she'd been dying to reveal .
"It's no secret to anyone that you're the one Natsu's always been the most protective of. Course, those kinds of fierce instincts will be further amplified now that you have been claimed. We'll be seeing a more possessive side of him too— though obviously not to the point of being abusive or controlling. Did I mention that Natsu and Gajeel's kind have an natural tendency to collect anything and whatever's of value to them. Not that they are treated as personal property, but soulmates chosen are pretty much the most prized treasure of them all in their eyes. The most cherished, revered and loved above all else. Pretty much a well-known fact that dragons, dragon slayers, demons, and hybrids alike will go to great lengths to keep their mates-aka-queens safe and won't take kindly anyone trying to harm or snatch them away. Same can obviously be said in regards to you and Natsu."
"Really? That sounds more than beyond nice." Lucy mused, the prospect of the being the most precious treasure in such a mighty dragon's hoard pulling the corners of her lips into an enraptured smile. Nastu always keeping me safe and all those amazing things? Sounds too good to pass up!
"Oh, if you and thought Natsu was protective before— just wait. You know speaking from personal experience with Gajeel myself. Like, when I was feeling under the weather that one time."
"Dude fussed over me the entire time I was sick—did not even leave my side. The other thing about those protective instincts of his kind- and other types are further boosted by their intense love and devotion to their chosen and their mating bond. People of Gajeel's and demon's Ilk are basically hardwired to do whatever it takes to keep their soulmates safe and look out for their overall health and well-being— even going above and beyond to take of care or them when they're ill, injured or otherwise indisposed. Goes without saying for pyro-boy too seeing how he is a human-dragon-demon hybrid, who knows? He will probably give Gajeel a run for his money in the super overprotective department when you are sick. Not letting you out of his sight and insisting on nursing you back to health, to the point where not even Porlyysuica or wizard saint themselves could pry that man away from you even if they tried. Least you can count on plenty of attentive TLC and affection from him though—should speed up the recovery process real nicely!"
"Sounds like Natsu will be the quite devoted as romantic partner, Lucy," Erza noted with a fond smile gracing her lips. " which is always great to have. Then again, it doesn't really come as shock to me or anyone seeing how dedicated he was to you as your best friend and to others he cared about. Always has been and always will be. Ask anyone—myself included -and they will honestly tell you that there isn't anyone who could be more deserving of your heart or his. Inspiring, really."
Really liking the sound of this...
"Isn't that the truth!" Mira agreed. "They're basically a match made in heaven! Ooh- I have an idea!" Ocean blue eyes lit up in eager delight with the clap of her delicate hands together.
"Yeah, what's on your mind?" Lucy inquired, sounding genuinely curious.
"Well, I was thinking how we should set the two of up on a series of romantic outings and dates! Some could be one on one while others could be double and group dates with other couples! What do you think, Natsu?" The she demon's head turned towards Natsu who was still in the midst of trading barbs with Gray .
"Wouldn't dates with Lucy be fun?"
"Hell yeah!" Natsu raved ,eyes glittering with eager anticipation now that his attention was drawn. "I've been dying to do this for ages!"
"Really?" Lucy gushed in response, elated adoration swelling in her heart. "All this time?
How is he this sweet?
"Yeah, of course!" Nastu's reply was still tremendously keen. "I mean I always love hanging and spending time with you. Who wouldn't? Didn't stop me from wondering what it'd be like to take you out on a proper date though— especially once I fully realized my feelings." His arm squeezed around the celestial wizard's shoulder in a tender hearted display of affection.
"Constantly pining, picturing the two of us out on the town or on a picnic together, how much of a blast it'd be—stuff like that." God did the way Nastu's voice soften as those onyx eyes connected with his queen's send a rush of cozy warmth rippling through her heart that was already skipping a beat.
"Plus, I can't even count how long I've been hopin' and praying for that special chance to take you out the way other people in love do." He added, with an disarmingly tender smile illuminating his striking emerald eyes.
"Oh yeah?" Lucy murmured, drinking in the marvelous sight of her devastatingly handsome boyfriend and hanging on his every word. It really isn't fair how attractive he is….
" You really have?"
"Mhmmm, yeah. and now I finally can! Guess we can call it my dream come true after so long." Nastu leaned down to softly press his lips against Lucy 's temple. Damn…...I can't think straight..
And Honest to God Lucy couldn't but melt from that butterfly kiss along with the warmth now seeping into her bones.
" That's so sweet and touching. God do really I love you," Lucy breathed, finding herself adrift in those sage eyes yet again. "So very much."
"Mhmm, love you more you, weirdo. "The fire wizard rumbled, lightly bumping his nose against hers. "To the sun and moon and stars and everything."
"Aw— look at how perfect these two are!" Mira' voice broke in positively ready to burst from elation. "I can't stand it!"
"Yeah, "Levy weighed in with sentimental approval. "Natsu and Lucy are pretty amazing together!"
"I'll say!" Happy sang the couple's praise." Plus bet you that Natsu will bring his romance game to their dates and really woo her!"
"Oh please" Gray scoffed, letting out a derisive snort. "Dude couldn't woo a cactus—let alone a woman."
"Can too ,droopy eyed- stripper!" came Natsu's salty comeback by way of retort. "Luce... I mean not a cactus.. whatever the hell that means!"
"It means whatever I say it does!"
"That literally makes no sense!"
"Neither does your face!"
"What?!"
"You heard me!"
Good God-As if hearing the squabbling between those two wasn't enough for the Lucy and company who all collectively shook their heads with a mutual laugh.
"Wow Natsu." Cana piped up, not bothering to suppress her wry snicker. "Gotta say that I can't help but be a little bit shocked. Another thinly-veiled dig at your romantic capabilities and you're not retaliating by socking Gray in the face?"
"Uh normally yeah, but that would mean letting go of Lucy." Natsu admitted, a most magical and tingly heat shooting across the blondes nerves from the way he was nosing the crook of her neck .
Getting goosebumps...
"And I really don't wanna do that".
