A/N: Thanks for the comments

Katie The final 3 chapters will be focused on Kara and her recovery, with a lot of help form Alex.

guest in this she was in 5 weeks ish. In the show I think it was maybe a few weeks more.

"Thank god." Kelly said when Alex opened her eyes.

"Kel? Wh- Wait, Kara?" She asked sitting up, wincing and gasping in pain as she pulled her stitches.

"Easy." Kelly said trying to push Alex back down.

"Where's Kara? Did it work?"

"You got her out." Kelly said.

"I did? She's safe?" Alex asked looking round. "Where is she?"

"We don't know."

"What do you mean you don't know?" Alex asked, still feeling groggy from the pain meds.

"She flew off."

"What? When? Why?"

"You guys returned she started apologising and then she flew off." Kelly explained.

"Flew off where?" Alex asked getting out of the bed.

"Where are you going?"

"To find Kara."

"Alex, you don't know where to look." Kelly pointed out.

"I found her in the Phantom Zone, I can find her on Earth." Alex said slowly putting on a shirt.

"Alexandra, what are you doing?" Eliza asked walking into the room.

"I'm going to find Kara."

"I understand what you are feeling, but you are hurt, you need to recover. But that doesn't mean you can't help find her. You know her better than anyone, where would she go?" Eliza asked trying a different approach.

"You're right. We can use the device Alura gave me." Alex said.

"Actually that didn't make it back." Kelly said.

"Well where have you already looked?" Alex asked as she allowed herself to be moved back to the bed where she sat down.

"The Fortress, Midvale, where she said goodbye to Mon-El, the DEO desert base." Eliza listed.

"She hated that place she wouldn't go there." Alex said.

"We've talked to Barry as well, but he hasn't seen her." Eliza went on.

"Where's Lena?"

"She's working with Brainy to see if she can pick up any trace of Kara anywhere."

"Tell her to concentrate in the South Pacific. In fact don't bother, I'll go myself." Alex said standing.

"Go where?" Eliza asked.

"The island."

"What island?" Eliza asked.

"The one from Lost."

"Wasn't that filmed in Hawaii?" Kelly asked.

"Yes, but I mean where it was meant to be." Alex said walking to the door.

"Alex, you aren't making much sense." Kelly said.

"Kara used to fly round looking for the island." Leaving the room, clutching her side as she walked.

"It wasn't real." Kelly said.

"I know. But when she started college she got really stressed and was convinced she needed somewhere to go where she wouldn't harm others. She got it in her head that the Lost island was perfect and she tried to find something similar and she found it."

"Well tell us where it is and we'll find it." Eliza said causing Alex to come to a stop.

"I don't know where it is. Kara didn't start looking properly, as in flying round, until after she started working at the DEO. She found it soon after I started dating Maggie and when she tried to tell me I was a little preoccupied so may not have been listening." Alex said sounding guilty. "But I do know roughly where it is. I will recognise when I see it." She said as she started walking again only to see J'onn.

"J'onn I need you to-" Alex started only for J'onn to cut her off.

"Alex? Why aren't you in bed?"

"I think I know where she is, I need you to take me."

"If you find her and collapse she'll run again." J'onn warned.

"I won't collapse. But we need to find her. You and I are the only two who can even start to imagine what she has been through." Alex reminded him.

"One hour then I bring you back here." He said.

"Kara!" Alex called as she walked towards the cave.

"Alex?"

"You found your island then?" Alex asked carefully approaching her.

"I don't think this is the right one." Kara said as Alex pointed to the spot beside her.

"Mind if I sit?" When Kara nodded, Alex carefully sat down as Kara asked.

"Why are you here?"

"I didn't get you back from the Phantom Zone only to lose you." Alex pointed out.

"I stabbed you."

"You thought I wasn't real." Alex pointed out.

"I stabbed you." Kara repeated. "You could have died."

"Well, I didn't. Although mom might kill me for leaving so if you really want me to live you'd take me home and then stay there."

In response Kara just stared at the cave wall. After what felt like an eternity Kara said.

"My father was there."

"Your father?" Alex asked confused.

"I woke up and he was there. He didn't believe it was me. He was convinced I was an hallucination. I had to try so hard to convince him I was real. When in actual fact he was the hallucination. He told me the only way to save my mind was to kill the hallucination, namely you."

"Well I tried to kill J'onn."

"Why?"

"I thought he was a Phantom eating your heart." Alex said.

"That's dark." Kara said before finally turning to look at Alex. "Are you real?"

"Yes. But I don't know how to make you believe that." Alex said. "Although I did bring you this." She said passing Kara a bag.

"A sticky bun?"

"I thought you might have missed them." Alex said.

"I can't remember the last time I ate." Kara said before biting into the bun as Alex watched.

"So how are you doing?" Alex asked.

"Fine."

"Kara, I was there for a few hour at most and I can't even begin to describe what I felt when I was there, just that it was a bad bad place. I don't know if I could have lived there for more than a few days. But you've been gone weeks. You aren't going to just get over what happened. Come here." Alex said moments before Kara clung to her and cried.

"What if this isn't real?" Kara asked. "What if I wake up tomorrow and I'm back there?"

"Kara, you are home. And I am going to make sure you stay here."

"Thank you for getting me." Kara said.

"I told you, I'll always have your back." Alex replied as Kara fell silent again. After a moment Kara finally said.

"I'm not ready to see everyone yet."

"Okay." Alex said. "Whatever you need. But FYI, J'onn is loitering on the beach. He was my taxi." When Kara didn't say anything Alex said. "We'll do this however you want. We'll go where ever you want and you'll see whoever you want. Just take your time."

When the trio finally arrived back at the Tower the only person waiting in plain sight was Eliza. The second she saw Kara he walked towards her.

"Kara, I have been so worried." Eliza said hugging her. In response Kara silently clung to her, still wondering if it was real. "It's okay Sweetie." She soothed as she looked round Kara's head at Alex who watched with a frown etched on her face.

"I've got her." Eliza mouthed to Alex, in the hope she'd seek medical care.

Silently nodding Alex left the room with J'onn and went to the room she had been recovering in, where Lena and Kelly were waiting.

"How is she?" Lena asked.

"I don't know. I've never seen her like this. She's so scared that this is all an hallucination. For the last few weeks she has been living with a hallucination of her dead father who was the one who told her to stab me."

"Her behaviour makes sense." Kelly said. "I mean her reality was a hallucination for weeks. It's going to take time to get over."

"How did she figure out her father wasn't real?" Lena asked.

"He knew some thing he couldn't have." Alex said.

"That could be a problem." Kelly said.

"What do you mean?" Alex asked.

"She is going to be looking for similar events for incorrect knowledge with everyone here. Take me for example, when she left I didn't know who she was. If it comes out accidentally in conversation it might make her think this is an hallucination. Now think about everything else that happened while she was away, there are a lot of traps for us to fall into." She paused to let her words sink in before adding. "That's not the only thing we have to worry about. When people are released from captivity, in particular when they spent long periods in isolation, they can display excessive guilt, abnormal levels of suggestibility, apathy, development of a superego, desperation for achievement. Normally for any of those therapy would be recommended but in this group of captives there is abnormal distrust of therapists and in particular therapy sessions. I'm not sure Kara would be any different."

"So how do we help her?" Alex asked.

"She needs stability more than anything else. If something or someone works that's the route we take. And right now, that is you." Kelly said looking at Alex. "But if you collapse she is going to regress really fast, so you need to rest."

"What can I do?" Lena asked.

"For now she will feel overwhelmed and paranoid with physically meeting people. But we need her to break that cycle. So maybe you and Nia can send her emails. Help her feel connected, after that hopefully she'll reach out." Kelly said.

"I can do that." Lena said.

"There's something else we haven't discussed." Kelly said.

"What?"

"Her hallucination was her father. I know he wasn't real, but to Kara he was. She's just lost him again."

"Kara, wake up. It's a nightmare." Alex said as she approached her sister who was thrashing in her sleep.

"Alex?" Kara asked looking round.

"You had a bad dream." Alex explained.

"You're here?" Kara asked.

"Of course I am. And mom is next door. Everyone else is staying away so they don't crowd you, but the second you are ready they will be here. Including your mom."

"My mom?"

"She gave us a lot of help." Alex said. "Without her we may not have found you. She wants to see you, but she knows you need time."

"Shouldn't you be in bed?" Kara asked noticing Alex holding her side.

"I'm finding it hard to sleep. I keep having nightmares. I assumed the same was true for you as well and came to check."

"Thanks." Kara said.

"Want to talk about them?" Alex asked.

"Not yet. But I don't think I can stay here." Kara said.

"You feel trapped?" Alex guessed.

"How did you know?"

"It has a prison vibe about it." Alex said. "So where do you want to go?"

"Can we go to Midvale?"

"Well you're the one who can fly so we can go wherever you want. But try to get some rest first."

"Will you stay with me?"

"Of course."
