As Dale anxiously paced around in the living room in a black suit, he could not help but feel guilt and regret about going through with the marriage. His only best friend resenting him for marrying the girl of his dreams. The room was full of various animals they had helped over the years, including familiar faces like Tammy, her mother and her sister Bink. Along with Mitch and a few others.
Dale turned to Todd who stood behind him. "Chip isn't coming, is he?" He questioned.
"Have a little faith Dale, all good things come to those who wait," Todd replied.
As the wedding march began to play, Monterey Jack led Gadget down the aisle in place of her late father, Geegaw. Dale became even more anxious at the altar, even to the point of tugging on the collar of his shirt. As Gadget got to the altar in a beautiful white dress, she took Dale's sweaty paws and smiled.
"There's no need to be nervous." She whispered.
Dale sighed but didn't respond and attempted to cover the mood with a smile.
As the piano stopped, the mouse Pastor approached the two in the center. Just before he began to speak the front door swung open and approached Chip fashioning his usual tuxedo while still daunting his brown fedora. He gave a wink to Todd as he smiled and patted Dale on the back as he walked behind him. Dale sighed once more and his anxiety began to ease.
Dale and Gadget locked eyes as the ceremony pressed through and their immense love for each other grew by the second.
"Dale Oakley, do you take Gadget Hackwrench to be your wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, excluding all others, as long as you both shall live. With God as thy witness, I give this as my pledge?" The Pastor asked.
"I do," Dale replied.
"And do you, Gadget Hackwrench, take Dale Oakley to be your wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, excluding all others, as long as you both shall live. With God as thy witness, I give this as my pledge?" The Pastor asked.
"I do," She replied.
"You have chosen to seal your vows by the giving and receiving of rings. The ring forms a perfect circle, without a beginning or an end, and is thereby a symbol of eternity and signifies the duration of the commitment you are making. The gold of which the rings are made signifies the purity and value of the relationship into which you enter. Let us now exchange these rings." The Pastor continued.
Dale and Gadget then slid the rings onto each other's fingers.
"I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride." The Pastor said.
As Dale kissed Gadget all of his fears of ever wanting to get married disappeared. Everyone clapped as the two began to walk off the make-shift altar and the reception began.
"I think it's time for the Bride and Groom to have their first dance." Chip said.
Dale tensed up. "Oh, I don't know how to dance." He said quietly to Gadget.
She kissed him once more. "Then let me lead for a bit." Gadget said.
She signalled Chip to turn on the stereo and Forever and Ever, Amen by Randy Travis began to play.
"You may think that I'm talkin' foolish
You've heard that I'm wild and I'm free
You may wonder how I can promise you now
This love that I feel for you always will be" The opening lines began to sing as Gadget and Dale danced around the living room floor in slow steps.
Todd then got up and went outside without Chip noticing. Out leaning on the railing was his wife in a satin white dress. He wrapped his arms around her. "Oh, how I've missed you, Linda." He said.
She giggled and wrapped her arms around his shoulders and neck, beginning to dance slowly. "I'm sure you'll be back in time. How are the boys?" She asked.
"Doing alright I'd say. Chip is still stubborn but he's coming around." He said.
She smiled. "I wonder where he gets that from." Linda teased.
"Guess it just runs in the family." He said, taking the lead of the dance.
Oh, darlin', I'm gonna love you forever
Forever and ever amen
As long as old men sit and talk about the weather
As long as old women sit and talk about old men
If you wonder how long I'll be faithful
Well, just listen to how this song ends
I'm gonna love you forever and ever
Forever and ever, amen
The song continued to play as the scene faded. All was well and now Dale and Chip were back to being best friends.
The End.
