"Mom's not gonna like this." Regina heard her son say from the kitchen of their house. Apparently her girlfriend and son hadn't heard her come home.
"She's gonna love him." Emma replies to him. Him? Who is him and why is there a him in her house? Regina quickly but quietly walks through the house into the kitchen. She stands just outside the entryway as she listens to Emma and Henry talk.
"You know how long i've been asking for a dog?" Henry's voice seemed skeptical. Regina's nose flared. Emma Swan had better not brought a dog into her house. She peers around the corner to see her family on the floor with a golden retriever puppy sleeping in the middle of them.
"That's why I got him. She was never going to say yes, but she's not going to make us take him back to the shelter. Plus," She lifts up the sleeping dog's nose. "Who is gonna deny this adorable face?" Emma kisses his nose and the puppy gives Emma a sleepy kiss back.
Stepping fully into the kitchen, Regina uses her mayor voice and asks the pair "What in God's green earth is there a dog in my house for?"
"It was all her idea" Henry shouts and points at his mother.
"WOW! Thanks kid." Emma deadpans.
"Ms. Swan, you have two seconds to explain to me what is going on." Regina put her hands on her hips and waited.
Emma slowly got up, careful not to wake the puppy. "Well, Henry has been wanting a dog for awhile and dad said he was the last one at the shelter."
Regina looked at the puppy. He was pretty cute. "Can we keep him?" her girlfriend asked.
"Yeah mom, we will take care of him and take him for walks and I'll even use my allowance to pay for his food." Henry added. The puppy woke up and spotted Regina. He barks at her before running up to her and kissing her hands.
Regina looks at her girlfriend and son and back to the puppy. She couldn't deny that he was pretty cute. She sighed and bent down to pick up the puppy. "Only if we can call him Duke."
"YES!" Emma and Henry shouted in unison, making Regina laugh.
