SAM:
When I got home from Paul's house, I went straight on up to bed. I laid there for about an hour and a half but couldn't fall asleep. I decided I would get up and go for a run. Since I like to sleep naked, I was able to head straight on outside. When I made it to the back porch, I phased and took off for the woods. I made a perimeter run around the res and then headed straight on up to the hospital. The imprint bond let me know she was still there. Once I made it to hospital, I laid down in the forest and listened for her. She was in the NICU with the baby.
"Hey sweet little angel! I want you to remember something for me. You are strong and a fighter. You can do anything you set your mind to and I need you to set your mind to getting strong so you can go home with your mom and dad. They seem like really nice people and I bet they will give you an amazing life. So fight baby girl!" I heard her say. I just fell even harder for that women.
She stayed in the NICU with the baby all night. I could hear her talking to her occasionally and reminding her that she is a fighter. She never went to sleep. I guess she was worried that something might happen to her.
When the sun started to come up, I made my way home to get ready for the day. On the way home, I couldn't help but to think about her some more. When I made it back home, I phased out and walked in the door.
"Well what do we have here? Sneaking in at sunrise. Bags under your eyes. If you wasn't imprinted, I would ask what was her name but I know that's not the case. Or I hope not at least." Paul says with a smirk.
"Paul what are you doing here so early?" I ask a little irritated.
"Just wanted to check on you man. That's all. Did you go back up to the hospital as a wolf?"
"Yeah I did. She stayed there all night at the baby's side. Lenox didn't even fall asleep." I said as I made my way over to the coffee pot.
"Damn man. She is amazing. I bet she is tired though. How's the baby?" He asked
"The baby pulled through the night and is doing good. She is truly amazing. I can feel how tired she is in the imprint bond but she is still up right now." I reach into the cabinet to grab two coffee cups.
"You can feel when she's up?" He asks as I pass him a cup of coffee.
"You can't feel when Rach is up or sleep?" I ask with a worried look on my face.
"No man I can't. Must be a Alpha thing." I just shook my head at him and stated drinking my cof
"Well I'm going to head on home now. Have a good day. Oh, Rach said to come by tonight for supper. No objections and if you don't show up I will drag you there myself." Paul says as he makes his way out the door, coffee cup still in hand.
"Fine, but I want my cup back tonight." I say even though he is out the door already. I hear him laughing on the way home.
I walk up to my bathroom and set my cup down on the counter. I walk toward the shower and cut the water on. As soon as it warms up, I step in. I let the hot water work the knots out of my back for a moment. Once I'm clean, I get out and grab my towel. I walk out into my bedroom to see the time. I notice I'm running a little behind schedule. I throw on my clothes and make my way down stairs. I make a cup of coffee to go and then I head on out the door. Luckily the drive to school is not long. When I get there I park in my usually spot and walk in.
LENOX:
I noticed that after Sam left, I started to have pains in my chest. It must be from not getting much sleep lately. The doctor side of me is laughing at that ridiculous statement. No wonder they say doctors make the worst patient. After I check on Bella, I head up to the NICU. I pull a chair up next to her bassinet and take a seat.
"Hey sweet little angel! I want you to remember something for me. You are strong and a fighter. You can do anything you set your mind to and I need you to set your mind to getting strong so you can go home with your mom and dad. They seem like really nice people and I bet they will give you an amazing life. So fight baby girl!"
As I'm sitting there talking to her, I notice the pain in my chest has greatly weakened. I sit by her bed all night, talking to her or just holding her little hand. She makes it through the night without any problems. That is a very rare occurrence. I usually have to call a code at least once on NICU baby that is this small. I notice her vitals look a little stronger today, which is awesome! I head out of the NICU and head straight for the ICU to check on my other patient. When I get there I see she is up and talking to her husband.
"Good morning! How are feeling today and don't try to lie about anything either. I can read right through it." I say to her. Many moms have tried to trick me over the years but they all have failed at it.
"Good morning! I'm doing good. Just sore and in a little bit of pain, but other than that I'm doing good." She says.
"Well I'm going to check you over and if you pass with flying colors, I have a surprise for you." I grab my stethoscope and begin checking her lungs. Everything sounded perfect. I see her BP has remained steady and her O2 is at 100%.
"I will be right back." I head out the door in search of a wheel chair. Once I find one I head on back.
"Since everything looks great, I will take you to see your baby. Just remember though you can't hold her right now and she still does have a lot of wires attached to her." Bella's eyes lit up.
"Thank you so much!" she said with tears running down her face.
I pull the wheelchair up by the bed and I start unhooking her from everything. Once she is unhooked I make my over to help her get in the chair but her husband beats me to it and he just picks her up and places her in the chair. All I could do was smile at him and shake my head. Before we head up to the NICU I ask the nurse to get Bella setup in a regular room while we are gone and to also have a breast pump delivered to her room.
"Once we get back from visiting with your daughter, I'm going to help you start pumping so we can give her that instead of formula." I say
"Oh good because my boobs are starting to hurt." She says with a blush.
"They will feel a lot better after you pump, I promise."
The rest of the way up to the NICU is made in silence. Once we reach the entrance for it, I have every one scrub their hands and put on a PPE
Gown. I push the wheelchair over to their daughter.
"You can reach in and hold her hand if you like."
I stepped away to give them some privacy. While they are with her, I review the baby's chart. I know nothing has changed but I need to stay busy so I don't fall asleep. I know the only thing that needs to be added is her name so I get up to make my way over to them.
"Sorry to interrupt your time with her but I was wondering if you had a name picked out yet?" I ask
"Yeah we do. We actually just chose one. Her name is Sarah Koko Black. Sarah is Jakes moms name and Koko means the night" Bella says as she looks at her baby girl smiling. I can see an unshed tear in her eye.
"That is a beautiful name! I will go write that on her chart and start her birth certificate application for you." I made my way back over to the desk.
While they are visiting with Sarah, I call my hospital back home and let them know it will be longer than a month. They understand and are use to this by now. Sometimes it takes longer than I originally planned. I look at the clock and see that its almost time for Sarah's next round of medication and Bella's. I get the baby's medicine ready and walk over to her.
"I'm about to give Sarah her next round of medicine. They are antibiotics and steroid's to help her. After a few minutes of her receiving them we will have to go so you can get your medicine as well. I'm almost pretty sure you need to pump as well."
I walk over to the other side of the bassinet and push the medicine in through her IV. I pull up a chair and watch the vital monitor screen to make sure everything goes okay. After about 15 minute's I tell them to say bye for now. I told them they could come back later this evening after Bella rest some. I begin pushing Bella back towards the entrance so we all can wash our hands and dispose of our gowns. After that I take Bella to a regular room and help her get situated. I walk out to go get her medicine as well as the pump. Once I push the medicine into her IV, I help her get ready to pump.
"So you will take this part of the pump and place it over each nipple and then press start and relax. Once you notice your milk is not coming out or it gets painful stop. While you do that, I'm going to go find us all something to eat." I head out the room in search of the cafeteria.
SAM:
The parent teacher conference I had scheduled for this morning did not take as long as expected. I glanced at my watch and saw I had about 10 minutes before my students would start arriving. I reached into my top desk draw and pulled out my phone to call Old Quil. It rang a few times before he answered.
"Good morning Old Quil. Sorry to call so earlier, but there was two things we need to discuss." I said getting to the point.
"Good morning Sam. Sure go ahead." He said.
"First thing do you know of anything that would help Bella and especially the baby. Their daughter was born late last night and she only weighed 1 pound. I want to make sure we do everything we can to keep her here with us." I waited a few minutes before he responded back to me.
"There is something I can do for her and I will take care of that today. Now what's the next thing you wanted to discuss?"
"I imprinted last night on the doctor and she was able to give a Alpha command to Jake and Seth when they went up with her to check on Bella. Is there anything in the archives about this happening?"
"Ah so the legend is true and she has been found. I will be at Paul's house tonight to explain this to everyone. See you then." With that he hung up the phone.
I stared at my phone my confused. I tried to recall a legend about it but none came to mind. And second, how did he know we will all be at Paul's tonight? I decided to send Paul and Rach a message to give them a heads up about him coming.
To: Paul and Rach
From: Sam
Old Quil is coming tonight to discuss somethings. Don't ask how he knew. You might wanna prepare for the all the Elders to be there.
I hit send on the message and a second later they both replayed okay. After that I put my phone back in my desk and started getting ready to teach my students something they would not find interesting. After 7 different classes and one pop quiz on my final class, I was headed home to try to relax some. I made it home a few minutes after I left school and I decided to phase and check on my imprint. I made a bee line for the hospital because that's were the imprint bond was pulling me to. When I got there I heard her talking to a doctor about a place to rent around here. I decided to listen in to see if Bella was awake. After a second of listening in, I found her room. She was up and visiting with the other imprints. I phased out and headed towards the hospital entrance. When I got inside I headed straight up for her room. I knocked on the door then walked in.
"Hey Bella. How are you feeling?" I asked
"Hey Sam. I'm good. Just a little sore though." She said
"How's my new niece?"
"She is perfect! She is having to stay up in the NICU for a while but Lenox seems certain she will be able to go home in about 2 months. I'm going to have to go shopping when they release me. I have nothing for her." She looked a little ashamed that she didn't have anything for the baby.
"Hey don't be ashamed about not having anything for her. You have been through a lot in the past and I know you didn't wanna get your hopes up. I'm pretty sure these lovely ladies will be more than excited to throw you a baby shower to help you get the stuff you need." I looked at the other imprints knowing they would do this for her.
"Oh my gosh! Yes! I'm going to start planning now. We will make sure that little angel has everything she needs and more." Leah said
"So Sam, I have been informed that you have imprinted on someone. To be more precise in the matter, it was my doctor." I couldn't help but to glare at the gossiping hens in the room. If gossiping was an Olympic Sport, these women would take home the gold every year.
"What? We have to keep her updated on everything that is going on. Also she has prime access to this women to get to know her and help you out. Spirts know you need it." Emily said.
"Why do I need help when it comes to my imprint?" I asked
"Sam, you haven't been on a date since before you phased. That's been a very long time. Does you dick even still work at this point because the guys would have said something if you got laid recently." Leah said
"Really ladies! My dick is not up for conversation and by the way it works just fine. Thank you very much. And another thing, I'm going to ask Lenox out on a date today."
Right after I said that their was a knock on the door and a few seconds later in walks the doctor. You could tell she was dead on her feet but she looked just as gorgeous as ever. I moved to stand in the corner as the doctor attended to Bella. I didn't hear a word of their conversation. I was to wrapped up in watching her every move. I did notice she stole a couple of glances at me and I couldn't help but to smile at her. After she was finished looking over Bella, she made to leave the room. I stepped out in the hall with her.
"Excuse me Lenox but I was wondering if you had a minute we could talk?"
"Of course! How can I help you Sam?"
"I know you are tired but I was wondering if maybe I could take you to get a bite to eat and maybe a cup of coffee?" She stared at me for few minutes and I could see she was debating it in her mind. I was praying to the spirts she would say yes.
"Yeah you can. Thank you! Where would you like to go to?"
"The diner is not to far away and they have good food and coffee."
"Let me go check on the baby one last time and let the nurses know I'm stepping out for a moment."
"Okay. I will be here waiting for you." I said with a smile on my face.
I watched her walk off towards the elevator. I stood there and thanked the Spirts she said yes to me. I didn't plan on telling her about the pack until we got to know each other a little better first. I walked back into Bella's room to let the hens know what was going on. I'm pretty sure they were all dying to hear the latest bit of gossip.
"So what happened?" Bella asked
"Shouldn't you be focusing on recovering?" I said with a smirk
"Yeah yeah yeah. I know this but don't care right now. What's the news lover boy?" She said with a grin on her face. I just shook my head at her.
"I asked her out to go get a bite to eat and she said yes. She is going to go check on your daughter first and let the nurses know she is stepping out for a little bit. After that we are going to get a bite to eat. Before you ask, I don't plan on telling her about the pack right now. I want us to get to know each other first before I deliver some life changing news."
"Yay! I'm so excited. You have to come back and let me know. If the other ladies are not here, you can give them the details tonight." Bella gushed.
"Okay I will. See you guys later." I made my way back out to the hall to wait on her.
About 10 minutes later she came back down and she gave me a heart shattering smile. We didn't speak on the way down but I couldn't help myself. I reached over and grabbed her hand. I felt the imprint bond again and it was just a strong. She seemed shocked at first but then a smile appeared on her face.
