ExtraOrdinary: A Psychic's Tail

Chapter 4: Arrival of the Mysterious Assassin - Garrett vs Baldur

Date: August 10, Age 257

Time: 12:25 PM

A Fairy with dirty blonde hair emerges from a portal, interrupting the showdown between Garrett and Jikan. Everyone inside and out of the battle arena could only stare in shock as the portal closes behind the stranger.

"And who are you supposed to be?!" Jikan demands. "As you can see, I was in the middle of a fight with this human!"

The stranger could only let out a sinister chuckle. Very small, but sinister nonetheless. "My apologies for the introductions. My name is Baldur, an elite assassin known across the universe and humble servant of Queen Titania."

Everyone in the audience is quietly clamoring upon hearing the name Titania. Even someone so stoic as Night-Tail couldn't help but shake a bit. Garrett simply looks around in confusion.

Why is everyone getting worked up all of a sudden? he thought. Is this Titania lady that bad of a person?

"Alright then, Baldur," Night-Tail chimes in. "Answer us this; why have you come all the way to this planet, and in the middle of festivities, no less?"

Baldur chuckles and points at Garrett, who tilts his head in confusion. "I've come for him, actually." he replies as he creates a large blue ki blast. "Hold still, Garrett Grayson. This won't hurt a bit." He then proceeds to unleash a powerful beam against Garrett.

Garrett has multiple questions run throughout his head, but none of them came with answers. However, one thing was for certain; he had no intention of dying, not when he had just reached the early stages of adulthood. At that moment, as if by instinct, he creates a ki barrier in the nick of time, thus averting his death. However, the once excited crowd has begun to panic.

Baldur chuckles. "Wrong decision, kid." he says as he points another ki blast at Aunt Arachne and Moko, thus terrifying the crowd further. "Now, because of you, Garrett, there will be casualties." He unleashes a large beam at them. Garrett could only watch in shock. Was the only family he ever had about to die before his eyes?

Moko, in a bizarre display of courage, stands up and gets into a stance not unlike Galick Gun. He charges up a green ki blast. "Don't worry, Aunt Arachne!" he shouts. "I've got us covered!" With that said, he lets loose a large beam. "SIGNAL BEAM CANNON!" The attack was enough to avert a potential crisis, but some people in the crowd is starting to leave, not wanting to die any sooner than is absolutely necessary.

"Oh! It looks like the bug can defend himself!" Baldur exclaims. "Good! That means more entertainment for me, even if it's only by a small amount."

Moko flies over to Garrett, landing next to him. "Don't you worry, buddy!" he says. "I'll stick with you and help you beat this guy senseless!"

"Moko..." Garrett says softly.

Baldur could only laugh at what he was hearing. Just who did that insect think he is? "Aw, would you look at that!" he says mockingly. "The little bug wishes to help out his friend. How touching. How predictable."

Moko charges at Baldur and proceeds to duke it out with the invader. Garrett uses this time to run over to the rest of Team Esper.

"Garrett!" Hua exclaims. "Are you all right, honey?"

"What is going on?" Gobbles asks. "The festivities are ruined because of that jerk!"

"Listen, guys. I don't know what's going on here either," Garrett replies. "But what I do know is that this guy is trying to kill me for reasons unknown."

"So are you asking for help?" Night-Tail asks. "You know that we are willing to tag along."

"No." Garrett replies. "I need you guys to evacuate the people. Moko and I will take this guy on."

"Are you sure about this, Garrett?" Phoebe asks. "This Baldur person seems hella strong."

"We'll be fine, Phoebe." Garrett assures the pheasant. Baldur was only one person, after all. He may be strong, but Garrett didn't want to be a bully by having all the members of Team Esper fight him.

Dodge walks over to Garrett and pats his shoulder. "We'll agree with your decision, buddy." he says. "But be sure you come back in one piece, okay?"

"No promises." Garrett replies as he walks back over to the skirmish between Moko and Baldur.

Moko had managed to hold his own well against the invader despite being weaker and smaller, and it seemed as though Garrett wouldn't have to join in. However, Baldur's power proved to be overwhelming for the young Neofly. At that moment, Garrett takes a huge leap towards Baldur and lands a powerful kick to the face.

"Alright, ladies and gentlemen, listen up!" Night-Tail shouts out to the people. "If none of you here want to die today, I suggest that you leave this area as quickly as you can!"

And sure enough, the citizens were quick to try to escape the fierce battle, even if they had to take such an order from a member of a team of losers. Jikan and Kukan do their part to make sure that the citizens of Ivalor were safely evacuated and see to it that any visiting aliens were off the planet.

"Thanks for the help, you two." Pip says to the twins. "We wouldn't have gotten the people out of here if it weren't for you."

"Well, this is Ivalor." Jikan says, smiling serenely. "We have to look out for each other, right?"

Amongst the panicked crowd, Aunt Arachne looks back at the Clifflands Battle Arena, clearly worried about Garrett and Moko. Oh, my dear boys... she thought. Whatever you two are doing back there, I pray that you come back to me alive.

Moko continues his assault on Baldur by attempting to land at least a few punches on him, but it is all for naught as Baldur continually dodges each punch. Garrett uses this opportunity to try to land a surprise blow on the invader. He leaps towards Baldur and readies his right fist. However, Baldur catches wind of this and counters Garrett's attack with an explosion of ki. "COMET BLASTER!" he shouts. The blast was enough to send Garrett flying out of the cliff lands and to a grassy are near the Ravaged Mountains. Fortunately, Garrett recovers from the attack, but his shirt is torn.

"Tch! This guy is making me work for this." he says as he takes off his scarf and flares up an intense pink aura. "Maybe it's time I got a bit more serious."

Moko flies over to his human companion. "Garrett!" he exclaims as he lands next to him.

"This guy is a tough cookie, alright." Garrett says. "I'm not sure why he came all this way to kill me, but let's do what we can to send him packing!"

"Right!" Moko replies. At that moment, Baldur zips over to the pair, somewhat annoyed that those two peasants refused to die so easily.

"Get ready to fight, Moko!" Garrett exclaims.

"Don't you worry about me!" Moko replies. "I'm with you to the bitter end!"

Baldur could only haughtily chuckle at such bold remarks. "I am an elite soldier of Titania's Army," he said. "And you two still believe that you can best me in battle?"

"With enough hard work and dedication," Garrett snaps. "Even a regular guy can become an elite with no trouble at all."

Baldur heehaws at what he had just heard. "That's funny!" he says. "I didn't think that you would be quite the comedian, Garrett!" He then flares up a blue aura, powering up in the process. "In that case, please allow me to show you the wall that no amount of effort can hope to surmount!" With that said, he charges at Garrett and the two fighters (well, three if you count Moko) proceed to duke it out once again.

Meanwhile at the Southern Ivalorian Plains...

Night-Tail and the other members of Team Esper, accompanied by the twins Jikan and Kukan, are all sitting outside in Aunt Arachne's yard, sipping the tea she made as they all wait on Garrett's return.

"..." Night-Tail says nothing.

"You know, Night-Tail," Dodge says. "I've got a pretty bad feeling about this. I have faith that Garrett can handle that Baldur guy, but my instinct is telling me that worse things are about to befall us."

"Let's not worry about that right now, Dodge." Night-Tail assures Dodge. "We can have that luxury after Freckles defeats the enemy."

"Garrett still isn't back after a few good hours wasted on fighting?!" Phoebe demands. "What an idiot! He should have had that fight over with!" She discharges a blast of flames across a patch of grass, razing it in the process, then returns to sipping tea.

"Phoebe, not all battles are easy to win." Hua reminds the pheasant. "We just need to trust that Garrett can handle himself and not get killed out there."

"Hua is right, Phoebe." Pip chimes in. "After all, we fulfilled our end of the issue. We just have to wait for Garrett to carry out his part as well."

Gobbles lets out a sigh and looks to the twins. "Jikan, Kukan?" he says. "What do you think we should do?"

"Honestly," Jikan replies. "I say that we should assume the worst. Garrett's battle against Baldur was doomed from the start. As a human, he has no chance against an opponent of high caliber. We should all give up, head home, and carry on with our lives. This is the fate that life has dealt Garrett, and he is hopeless to stop it."

"Jikan!" Kukan exclaims. "How could you even say that?!"

"I'm just calling it like I see it, sister." Jikan adds. "Humans are the weakest race out there. We shouldn't be so surprised that he would end up losing."

Night-Tail chuckles at Jikan's remarks. "That's too bad if you believe that." he says. "You really don't understand Freckles as well as you think you do, don't you?"

"What?" Jikan demands.

"You heard me, woman." Night-Tail replies. "I said that you don't understand Freckles as well as you think you do."

"He's a human, fox." Jikan remarks. "A stupid, weak human who's more dead than alive."

"He may be a weakling in your eyes," Night-Tail replies. "But you'll never meet a stronger person than Freckles. As his rival and a close friend of his, I can say that I know him better than both you and your sister. He's not gonna keel over to evil so easily. Granted, he'll get knocked down and banged up some, but he'll just keep going. If there's one thing that drives Freckles to become stronger, it's his determination."

"D-Determination?" Jikan asks. "You're really not that smart, are you?"

Garrett and Moko are locked in fierce combat with Baldur and the rest of Team Esper wait patiently for the success of their leader and friend. What does Night-Tail mean when he says that Garrett is driven by determination? Could it be the source of Garrett's immense battle power? Find out next time on ExtraOrdinary!

Author's Note: I noticed that there aren't a lot of people reading this fanfic. I understand that this doesn't fit everyone's cup of tea, but I would appreciate it if more people reads it.
