The Peaceful Woods lived up to their name on the walk back. The ground was torn up and a few trees were toppled, but otherwise the forest was back to normal. Daisy, Waluigi, and Wanda slunk back to the village feeling dejected and miserable.
"Uggh!" Daisy gripped her hair in frustration. "This SUCKS! They got away!"
"But that dream gem is dangerous!" Wanda said. "You saw what it did to one piranha plant! We can't let a bunch of weirdos like that keep it. We gotta go after them!"
"We?" Waluigi dusted himself off. "Speak for yourself. I'm in this to become a #1 hero. You two will just get in my way."
"Excuse you?" Daisy said, getting right in his face. "You're the one who got in the way! I'm the one who defeated the piranha plant!"
"Only because I was the one who deduced the location of the dream gem. You two would be dead without my tactical assessment!"
"You were about to get digested before I rescued you! If anyone is the hero here, it's me!"
"Why are you two bickering?" Wanda said. "You can just work together!"
Waluigi stamped his foot and leaned over Wanda, arms held out and fingers curled like claws. "I am the Great Waluigi and soon to be hero! I'm not about to share the credit with either of you losers!"
Daisy blew a raspberry. "Like I'd even want your help in the first place. My reputation is getting damaged just standing in the same space as you, creep."
Wanda vibrated in the air, ready to pop. "Ooh! Stop it, stop it, stop it!"
The outburst was enough to shut them both up a second.
"The Sundream Stone is in trouble and all you care about is who gets the credit!" Wanda said. "My forest was in trouble but the two of you working together managed to save it. If you really care about being heroes, then quit being so selfish!"
Daisy looked at Waluigi. He was a conniving purple jerk, but she supposed he did help a LITTLE. He could be useful. And on the upside, the man lacked the charisma of Mario. So it would only be natural for anyone watching to identify herself as the real star of the show.
"Alright. I'll be the bigger woman here. You can come, but we're splitting the credit 50/50."
"60/40," Waluigi said.
"60/60," Daisy countered, offering a hand to shake. "Final offer."
Waluigi weighed the offer in his head before accepting her hand. "Deal."
"Great," Daisy said. "So, let's go ask the Sundream Stone…" That name was such a mouthful. "…Let's go ask Sunny where Tryclyde took the dream gem."
They returned to the far end of the village. Sunny looked happy to see them.
"Hey there, friends!" he said. "Golly. I don't feel the dream gem on you. That must mean you failed."
"Shut up, you hunk of junk." Waluigi kicked Sunny. "Tell us where the bad guy went with it."
Sunny closed his eyes, tightening them as he tried to concentrate. "Hm. My gems are all so far away now. It's hard to sense exactly. Do you think you could move me somewhere out in the open?"
"How are we supposed to do that?!" Daisy said, waving at the massive clay monument. "You're HUGE!"
Sunny hummed. "Oh! I know!" The sun-disc popped off of the front of the tablet and landed on the ground with a CLACK. "Now you can carry me!"
Waluigi moved to grab the face first but Daisy snatched it away. She hurried to the edge of the forest with Wanda fluttering and Waluigi stalking after. She held the face up in front of the plain.
"This any better?"
"Little to the left," Sunny said. "No, too far. There. Go straight."
They followed Sunny's instructions, course correcting every so often, which led them onto the shoreline.
"Can you hurry it up?" Waluigi said. "We'd be done already if I was holding the face."
"Hush!" Daisy said.
"Okay!" Sunny said. "It's that way!"
Sunny was pointing in the direction of the open ocean.
"…So, like, can you tell us WHERE it is?"
"I dunno!" Sunny said. "I can just tell the nearest gem is in this direction!"
Daisy grimaced. "But is there at least a warp pipe we can use to get there?"
"No idea!" Sunny said, chipper.
"Useless hunk of scrap," Waluigi said. He grabbed Sunny and stuck him down the front of his overalls for storage. "Now we're stuck."
"We could always find a boat," Wanda said.
Daisy smiled. "Find? Oh no. I got us covered." She raced back towards the warp pipe.
"Where are you going?" Waluigi called after her.
"Sarasaland!" Daisy said. "I got a boat we can use!"
