Beast Boy opened his eyes and rolled over to check the time. His alarm clock flashed 5:00 and he rubbed his eyes to help wake himself up. He stared at the ceiling for a brief moment before he got up and put on his workout clothes and decided to head for the kitchen.
He was dressed only in compression tights as he figured nobody would be up for another two hours and he'd be in the gym by then. As he made his way down the hall, he was in his thoughts about his current team. There had been good times of course, but now it took a lot of effort just to get himself out of bed. He no longer wished to be around them, hearing all the things they said to him and behind his back.
His ears weren't just for show. He had the best hearing out of any of the Titans. It seems they had forgotten that and their words had dug deep into him.
"If he put as much effort into fighting crime as he does those video games, he wouldn't be such a hassle."
"Man, even Mad Mod managed to tear him up. He's got to be the weakest link."
"At least he makes us look good. Other than that he's pretty dense and useless."
"I believe friend Beast Boy is what you call"the mascot", yes?"
He was tired of it. Even though their attitude and approach to him had changed, he knew it was only because he himself had changed. If he was still the same person he was before that fight with the Hive, they'd continue their nasty comments.
He made his way to the kitchen and got some ice cubes and walked over to the blender. He put them in then grabbed some fruit, milk, and protein powder and put the lid back on the blender. Once it was on, he pressed the blend button and his smoothie was ready in seconds. He also cooked up some eggs, hash browns, sausage, bacon, and some chicken to complete his breakfast. He began to eat in silence, enjoying his solitude.
As he ate, he was also thinking of his new team. Obviously he was excited to join Rose and finally be able to be with her. She entranced him and just her smell was enough to lure him in. He was also glad to see Jaime and Cass on the team. When they had worked together, be it on different occasions, it went very well. He knew how they fought and their strengths and weaknesses. He enjoyed their company and would like to think they enjoyed his.
The others were a nice addition as well. The girls seemed to be friendly, but he knew he shouldn't push it because they seemed pretty powerful. He figured he'd try to be friends with them and get on their good side. Muhammad and Grant each had a good reason to get on their good side as well. Muhammad would most likely be his foxhole buddy and he wanted to let him know he could trust him watching his back. Same went with Grant, but there was another reason and probably more important. Grant was Rose's brother, making him someone that Gar would have to make sure that he never crossed. Both of them seemed friendly though and Gar knew he would never hurt Rose. He made sure that Grant and Slade knew that when they had met the night before.
He finished his breakfast and got up to clean his dishes. As he was putting them in the dish washer, he heard the doors swoosh open and close. His ears twitched as he heard light footsteps walking across the floor. He also smelt burned sage and old books. That eliminated the other three and left one person that he particularly didn't want to see.
"Good morning."
Without turning his head, he acknowledged her with a nod and grabbed his bottle he used when he worked out and filled it with water from the refrigerator. He let the silence carry on and thought he was in the clear until she spoke again.
"Are you alright?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
Not cold and callous, but there was no emotion behind it. No joyful tone and no smile that accompanied it. Three months ago, he would've been happy that Raven had actually wanted to talk to him and had been the first to start the conversation. But now, he'd rather be anywhere but there.
Raven saw that her plan wasn't working. She had hoped to talk to him before the others had woken up and at least get him to open up a little bit. She decided to address the elephant in the room before her nerves overtook her.
"You've been distant from us. The last couple of months you've barely spoken to any of us, especially me."
He hadn't turned to her yet, as he was still tightening the cap on his water bottle.
"Isn't that what you wanted?"
This time he turned to her. Her eyes took him in as she saw him in nothing but his tights. His chiseled chest and abs cut like marble and a bulge in his pants right below his stomach. She quickly averted her gaze, hoping he wouldn't catch her checking him out.
"You had always told me to leave you alone, so I am. Cyborg told me that I should stop slacking off and train, so I am. Robin would always scold me and tell me to get better, so I am."
He took a few steps closer to her and hardened his gaze. She noticed he seemed to have grown over night and was now standing at around 6'1". His eyes pierced through her own and she felt herself getting weaker. She had to admit, he did look very attractive and it didn't help that he was now directly in front of her. But this wasn't the same boy that she had met all those years ago.
No more jokes, no more laughter. No more banging on her door, trying to get her to come out and join in on a game or a movie. No more bugging her in a way that she would secretly find endearing and made her feel welcomed. This was a version of him that she didn't like and would give just about anything to get the old one back.
"I figured you all would like the fact I'm taking this seriously. You sure let me know that I should start doing so."
She averted her eyes, not being able to look at him. This was the most he had spoken to her in months, but she really wished it would be going a lot better than it was right now.
"I never thought you'd alienate us. You don't even eat with us anymore. After a battle you just come back here and lock yourself in the gym or go swim in the pool. We'd like to get the old you back. We're sorry for how we treated you. All of us. We didn't think you'd become like this."
He narrowed his eyes at her and a dark smirk began to form on his face. He leaned in close so that they were nose to nose. She thought about pulling back, but something in his eyes froze her. It was almost like he was waiting for her to say the wrong thing and pounce on her.
"That's funny. From what I recall three months ago, you all were singing a different tune Raven."
He leaned back and picked up his bottle before turning towards the door and head for the gym. As he walked past her, he threw one more comment her way.
"Things change Raven. You should've thought about your words more carefully."
He left her there stunned as he walked out and made his way towards the gym. Once there, he began to wear out the punching bag with great ferocity. Kicks, elbows, and punches were being thrown so hard and quickly, the chain began to creak and soon snapped as he delivered a spinning heel kick. He looked over at the clock on the wall. 7:00. He had been at it for an hour and was still full of anger. Luck was on his side as the alarm began to blare. He ran to his room and changed into his uniform and made his way down to the Main Room.
He saw them all gathered around the screen, checking to see who had stirred up trouble this early in the morning.
"Who is it?"
Robin was typing and pressing buttons, before an image popped up of the Hive. Beast Boy looked on as they were robbing a bank and his eyes began to harden. If he could, he'd take them all on by himself. But he knew the team was gonna be there and while he appreciated the help, he'd rather it be another group.
"Looks like the Hive are back. Let's head that way. TITANS GO!"
Little did any of them realize, that would be the last time the original group of the Titans were to fight side by side.
