Enforcer Files: Operation Shadow

Chapter 5: Only One (Twisted Messiah)

I could not believe the conclusion I was coming to with this death cult. The 'Order of the Black Temple' is using young males with 'Barrie's Syndrome' for ritual sacrifices in order to bring back Dark Kat. To think that ever since Dark Kat was defeated by the SWAT Kats, this baddie still has followers on a small, but no less sinister scale, years after he died.

I smiled a friendly smile to Alex and placed my paw on his to let him know that he's safe with me. It seems there is no safe place in Puma Falls, "The Order believes that within those with Barrie's Syndrome is a chamber that stores youthful energies, they believe our youth can revive Dark Kat, so in order to do that, we must give him our energy to him"

"In other words?"

Alex concluded with the truth that I already deduced, "Yes, we must die in a sacrificial ritual called the 'Firelight Ceremony', at a minimum they will do one a month, at most they will do three in one night," the white manx cat explained, now I know the body count for the 'Order' is much higher, and there is not even a single dead body for me to prove this

I made my own conclusion to Alex's explanation with a plan of action, "I'm going to get you out of here, and you can tell your story to the Enforcers, and we'll go from there," I replied, this will not be easy. Even as I'm keeping my voice down, I'm thinking these trees have 'ears'. Alex soon heard footsteps and hid. I saw a guard in robes with his AK-47.

"You gotta plan?"

"I do," I replied with a wink to Alex's question, "now I heard that a trucker-tom comes through here once and a while looking for some fun, I met him, really nice guy, but I think he can help us get you out of here," Alex seemed onboard as he smiled seeming to recognize whom I was talking about. I don't know when he will come. That is the big question

Alex left into the bushes in the dark of the night. The next day, I went into town to walk around, and get something to eat. Suddenly, my ears picked up voices coming from the mayor's house, "There is something I don't like about the new arrival, that redhead," said the voice of a tomcat muffled by the window, "he is a threat to our sacred movement,"

"Don't worry..."

"He's not a threat, but you're right, he's a problem," said Crystal, "his time will come...after the three we will do tonight," I felt my heart tighten in my chest. They're going to do a Firelight Ceremony tonight. What if one of the victims will be Alex? I got to work fast. That night, I looked to see the lines of six torches, and heard the chanting down the trail.

I saw a Little Penguin, a Manchester Terrier with a Docked Tail, and a Blond and Cream-Colored Tabby Manx. I was so relieved to see that Alex was not in the procession, but like me, his time will come if I don't do something. I went out to the docks, and watched the rowboat go toward Phoenix Island in the same manner as when they killed that seal pup

"Hey, good news," said Alex

I turned to him as I was watching the ceremony unfold, and knowing that this cult must be stopped, "That trucker-tom you were talking about? His name is Max, he's planning on stopping by tomorrow for some time off the road, that might be our chance," now I have questions on how he was able to do that, "it helps to be a frequent client, you know"

Alex winked and smiled to me, "I told him the plan, he's in," I nodded to his word, when the Enforcers come knocking, I kind of wonder what the 'Order' will do? When you back a cult into a corner, they can dial up on the crazy. So far this plan is working. The first thing to do is to get Alex out of Puma Falls. Alex chuckled a bit as I stood up from the dock

"What?" I asked, giggling

"You have a big butt," Alex teased, I lightly shoved in the shoulder, "then again, so do I," he added, he looked to be the same size as me. I find having a bubble butt to be quite a blessing, "when we get back to MegaKat, I'll thank you properly," the next day came around, and I was in hiding with Alex when we heard the brakes of a Peterbilt semi-truck.

Under the cover of darkness the night before, we hid our belongings in the trunk of my car outside the village gates. Max seems to know how to prepare. He brought a Peterbilt 379 rollback flatbed. The kind used for impounding cars. We hid in the bushes when one of the local tom-kats talked to Max, "Hey, you here to impound the car?" he asked him,

"Just like the Mayor wanted"

While he was getting paid and the tom was distracted, Alex and I climbed up into the cab. Max made sure that the passenger side door was unlocked. We closed the door slowly, and hid under a blanket on the floor. Alex and I overheard the sound of chains and hydraulics, and my car being pulled onto the flatbed. I'm glad to see that this plan is working.

I soon heard the door open, and the engine turn on. Suddenly, we were on the move. It warmed me to hear that low and intimate voice of Max, "A'ight, you lil' sugah buns can come out now" said Max, and we got out from under the blanket to see the muscled lynx grinning at us. It seems like he too has some plans of his own to get us to MegaKat City

"So here's the plan,"

"They're probably going to be looking for this ol' rig, and I got an office in Cactus Cat City, we'll switch out the rigs in the garage, and move the car into a trailer," said Max, "we gotta do it when we get there, no dawdlin', we'll take Ol' Route 1 to MegaKat, it's the scenic route, but it's a safer route, they come knockin', I gotta few replies in twelve gauge,"
