[Chapter Five]
The rest of the conversation went pretty light. Everyone talked about how their lives were going, with George ocasionally cracking jokes and bickering with his siblings, which lightened everyone's mood considerably. They all discussed their life after Hogwarts. Ginny wanted to take up Quidditch as a profession. She was brilliant at her game. Ron was planning to spend sometime with Charlie in Romania, before coming back to England and training for being a curse breaker. The chosen one was still confused whether he wanted to become an auror or take quidditch as a professional choice. Hermione constantly told Harry not to take the invitation for the Auror training, that all three of them had recieved after the war. Hermione was the only one to turn it down, she wanted to do something more meaningful, maybe healing. But Harry and Ron were still contemplating their decisions. She thought it was best for them to do something less dangerous, honestly they had spent their teen fighting Voldemort and were still haunted by the war. In this condition, it would be better for them to take a break from catching dark wizards, at least for some years.
It was refreshing to finally have a get together with no Voldemort to worry about. Hermione didn't remember the last time they were so carefree and light.
After bidding farewell to George, the four of them walked side by side in the street of the wizarding village, talking and laughing, relishing their carefree time of lives, they had finally gotten after one horrendous war.
"I'm not going to take any kind of stress this year, this year is just fun.", the youngest weasley stated to which the boys agreed.
"I agree Gin, no war breathing down on us, no horcrux to destroy, no mad man killing people. It's the time of our lives." Ron said.
"That too, Ron, but we also have our N.E.W.T.S approaching. It would be better if we kept the fun aside for some hours and study for our graduation exams." Hermione lectured and Ron groaned.
"You know we won't really need graduation to get a job." Ron said causing the brunette to sigh.
She knew it was vain trying and getting them to study. What Ron said was true, as war heroes, they would have their desired jobs handed to them on silver platters but she didn't want that. She wanted to achieve something by her own talent and ability. Studying was never a bother for her. No matter what, she would try the best she could to achieve the best of results in her final exams.
She was snapped out of her trance when she heard her name being called. She turned to see the person and furrowed her brows when she saw Josh, if she remembered correctly, making his way towards them, panting.
"Hermione..." he said stopping a while to catch his breath.
"Josh, what's the matter?" Hermione asked. Whatever the matter was, it must've been urgent.
"A prefect told me to inform you that..some students locked some third years inside the shrieking shack. They put some kind of spell and the prefects couldn't open the door."
Hermione shook her head in disappointment. She turned to her friends and spoke,
"Guys, you go back to the castle, I will go look into the matter." Her friends looked at her with some concern.
"Hermione, you're sure you will be fine? I can come with you." Harry said worriedly.
She understood his concern, after falling into the dark lord's trap many times, he was bound to be on his guard, all of them were. But she shook her head.
"No Harry, I will be fine. They are just some third years. Honestly, you don't need to worry. Can you please make sure there's a carriage left for me?"
"Sure. Just be safe." Harry said and she nodded before turning on her heels and walking towards the old building.
It took her two minutes to reach the place. She took out her wand as she entered its premises and walked soundly.
"Wait untill I find who did this", she muttered under her breath as she neared the entrance. She didnt see any prefects around, it was odd, but she decided to shake it off. Maybe they had gone back, after knowing she was coming.
She frowned as she looked at the door.
"Alohomora!!"
To her surprise the door creaked open. Josh told her that the prefects couldn't get inside. She was getting a feeling that something was wrong. But she decided to check, in case there really was an student inside.
"Hello?" she called out as she entered a bit.
She heard a small thud from inside the shack.
So there was someone inside.
She ventured further in, her wand in a tight grip. She could hear the noises but it was incoherent, she couldn't figure out who was making it. She quickly casted a shielding charm over her, just in case.
She snapped back when suddenly the light was obscured. She heard a lock click and the door was locked behind her. Her heart rate accelerated. This was not good.
She stayed in her guard, her wand ready to defend her, from any sort of attack.
She snapped to the direction when she heard the slighest shuffle and fired a stupefy.
Two people. A man and a woman.
Merlin, she was outnumbered.
The taller of the two deflated her spell with a flick of his wand before firing a stunning spell on her. Thankfully, her shielding charm didn't let it hit her and she got the opportunity to fire another spell at the man who deflated it yet again.
As she was outnumbered, the woman suceeded to direct a spell, dark magic probably, and she stumbled back as the spell pierced her sheild and hit her shoulder. Taking advantage of her delay, the man hit her with another spell, and she fell to the ground, her shoulder aching badly.
" What happened, mudblood?", his voice was cold and harsh. "You think you can duel us? You never learn that you are inferior to us, do you?"
Hermione tried not to flinch at the "m" word. It shouldn't effect her, she had proven that she wasn't at all inferior to anyone, hell maybe even better than some. She had fought in the war and she knew she wasn't weak. But the filthy word always managed to made her feel inferior. She hated how much it affected it. But she wouldn't let them have the satisfaction of hitting her with their biting remarks. She tried to look at their faces, trying to see if they were any familiar faces, but their hoods were up and she couldn't see what lay underneath their black cover up.
"Who are you?" Her voice was firm, un-wavering. "What do you want?"
At her question, the woman scoffed distastefully.
"Who are we? You, mudblood, are in no position to ask questions." She said eyeing her like she was some mud stuck to feet.
Hermione discreetly moved her hand to her wand, but the man noticed her move and instantly disarmed her. Her wand flew to the far corner of the room and the small hope she had threatened to die.
"You think you are cleverer than us?" He said releasing a humourless chuckle. "If you were so clever, you wouldn't strut down here without any defense."
She kept a straight face, not giving them the satisfaction of making her afraid but she was panicking inside.
She decided to take another chance and she started to stand up when,
"Arresto Momentum"
Her body froze and she fell down to the ground. Panick began to crawl over her skin, crossing out any willpower in her. She was helpless in front of two people who probably wanted nothing good. Her body struggled when the woman fired yet another spell on her which hit her squarely on her chest.
The pain was unbearable. She was unable to scream or move and was forced to endure the searing pain that went to her body. Tears rolled down her eyes and her chest burned like it was on fire. The pain was almost close to the cruciatus curse. Almost.
"Now mudood, lets take you to where you deserve to be"
She struggled against the spell as the man walked forward.
"Wingardim Levi-"
"Petrifucus Totalus" "Stupefy"
She tried to focus on what was happening around the room but the pain in her body numbed her senses. She could hear a familiar voice and after some incantations, a loud crack of apparition.
Her vision was going blurry.
She heard the person cast the spell and the spell finally stopped to torture her but every part of her was in pain. The last thing she felt before blacking out was a pair of strong arms, scooping her up while desperately calling out her name.
