Chapter Five _ Seraphim

Hawkmoth

The purple suited villain took in a breath, "So much emotion, abandonment, fury, despair. What a perfect target." Hawkmoth held out his hand and a butterfly landed on it. He covered it carefully with his other hand, after a flash of light, it was on its way. "Go and Akumatize her." The twirled his cane over his head and brought it down like a gavel, the impact echoing.

The Akuma flew out into the night and landed on the painting the girl was carrying. The girl tried to fight back, resisting his power, "No! Get out of my head!" Hawkmoth smiled she was a complex victim; It didn't matter they all saw it his way eventually, "Hello my dear girl, I am Hawmoth. I want to help you." "I'm not taking help from a super-villain."

"I'm not a villain, Miss Doria. I only want to help. Your mother has no idea the pain she causes. Rejecting her first born without hesitation and neglecting the second without remorse. She's the true villain here. I'm not making you a villain. I will grant you a power that can only hurt those that deserve it. She will experience all the pain she causes others, and so will your other quarry."

"I know what you want. I won't give it to you. Ladybug and Cat Noir are the good guys."

"Your power will reveal the truth, if Ladybug and Cat Noir don't cause pain then you won't be able to harm them and you defeat will be swift, but if you can incapacitate them, then you will give me their Miraculous, and I'll use them to truly help people. People like you."

The girl was silent for a moment. She couldn't resist much longer, "No!"

Hawkmoth snarled in frustration for a moment before smiling again, "You won't get another chance like this again, all you wanted was a hug, she robbed you of even that. It's not such a selfish request. She'll be inclined afterwards, once she understands you and your pain. I'm giving you the only thing you ever wanted. They all give in, so take it. Why shouldn't you? You deserve my help more than most of the people I help." He had her now, she couldn't fight it. It was what she always wanted, "Rise my Seraphim and punish them with all the pain they have caused!"

Marinette

Marinette tried to catch up with Zoé again outside while Chloé, Lila and Sabrina rejoined jean in the limo. That's when she saw her friend get akumatized, Silver armor covering her, and six wings spread out behind her made of a rainbow of colored fabrics. "Oh no."

Her friend launched herself into the air, back towards Le Grand Paris. Marinette took off up an alley and made sure no one was around, "Tikki, Spots on!"

Ladybug chased after the akumatized Zoé. She had to be targeting Audrey, it was the only thing that made sense. She followed Seraphim to Le Grand Paris as quickly as possible. She discovered Audrey's suite broken into, but devoid of any kind of super villain, luckily the screams of people below left Ladybug with a good guess where to look next.

The heroine dropped down a stairwell using her yoyo as a grapple. Seraphim had incapacitated, several diners at the restaurant, stopping to check on a few of them, they were crying, moaning in pain, or just shaking with anxiety. This Akuma was weird, it had varied effects.

Ladybug found the Zoé and her mother in a private dining area. She used her yoyo like a whip to prevent her from touching her mother, pulling her hand back and tried to reason with her, "Zoé! I know you don't really want to hurt anyone so calm down for a second."

"I'm not hurting anyone that doesn't deserve it!" She tried to cut the yoyo cord vulture style, with two feathers, but failed to even mark the material, "Why can't I?"

Ladybug smiled, "Sorry honey, it's real elvish rope." Seraphim used a wing to 'backhand' Ladybug back into the main area. Ladybug landed on a table, with a thud and a roll, and was back on her feet. Seraphim dragged Audrey after Ladybug, who started bawling her eyes out, choking on her words, as her face turned red and puffy, mascara and other make-up starting to drip, and run. Ladybug didn't need to be a linguistical genius to know she was begging for it to stop. It was clearly more severe for Audrey than the other hotel patrons.

"What are you doing to her?" She demanded to know. Seraphim had a grim look, "Only what she did to everyone else." Chloé shouted from behind Ladybug, "Ladybug let me help!" Ladybug looked back at the girl in bewilderment, "Are you crazy? Get out of here!"

Another swing sent Ladybug flying over Chloé's head, and into the lobby. Seraphim dropped Audrey, and flew after Ladybug, ignoring Chloé entirely, "Hawkmoth and I made a deal, this will all be over soon." Ladybug tried to evade but Seraphim had was too fast. She grabbed the hero and pinned her to the floor.

Then she felt the effects firsthand, first came the anxiety she caused her parents, it made her start to hyperventilate but it kept building. Then came the tightness in her chest, a heartache, that grew tighter and tighter, she wasn't sure if it was Luka or herself that she did this too. She could feel something worse building, but something else came first, this grey feeling of unimportance, Chloé not doubt, a relief by comparison. Then a far greater heartache, the tears came and did not stop, she started to tremble, part of her wanted to die rather than endure this stage. Who could she have hurt this badly?

Cat Noir

The feline superhero landed in a crouch. A winged lunatic stood over Chloé who was holding a crying and helpless Ladybug. "You're going to be ok. Come on you're a superhero."

Normally he would have made a quip or a bad one liner but seeing his partner in that state changed things. Cat Noir approached the Akuma the way a grizzly bear would approach a noisy dog, walking calmly towards it before he smacked it out of existence. "Cataclysm!"

Seraphim leapt to the side. Her wings gave her a mobility and speed advantage he noticed, but not enough, he spun on his heel and leapt again at his target, bringing down his most powerful ability with all his might, and missed. The resulting effect was an immediately wreaked fountain lobby, floral décor and a very large rug entirely disintegrated. Then Seraphim grabbed him by the face and her ability activated. His breath went uneven for a moment, He felt a tear run down his cheek. He looked up at the villain, "That's it? That's your power? To make my eyes water?"

Seraphim threw him across the room at Ladybug and Chloé. Cat Noir caught himself, sticking the landing in front of the two girls, "Ladybug, I don't know what's going on with you. We need a lucky charm about now." Ladybug sat up wiping her eyes, "Am I a horrible person?" Cat Noir stopped and turned to look at Ladybug, "Are you- oh my god. Call back up, right now." Cat Noir checked his timer, only It wasn't active yet, "What the?" Chloé whined, "What about me, I'm right here!"

Ladybug handed Chloé the Bee Miraculous, while Cat Noir dove back into an intense offensive, Jabs punches, kicks, and twirls all evaded. Then he heard backup incoming.

"Pollen! Buzz-" Chloé was cut off by Seraphim grabbing her by the throat. Chloé was dropped to the floor and started screaming. "Help me please! Lady bug! make it stop!" Tears streaming down her face, Lady bug managed to use her lucky charm, catching a blanket.

Cat Noir took to the defense of his childhood friend, but Seraphim wasn't being aggressive, she was backing away, her wings folding in. Hawkmoth's voice echoed, "Their Miraculous are nearly in your grasp! take them!" "No! This wasn't the deal! I didn't want to hurt her!" Seraphim howled in pain, Cat Noir yelled in rage, "Hawkmoth Stop it!" Adrien saw Zoé's eyes, she was pleading, then Seraphim covered herself in her wings.

Cat Noir didn't hesitate to use the power of destruction again, "Cataclysm!" The wings shredded like paper, revealing Zoé and the Akuma that caused all of this. Ladybug snatched it out of the air with her yoyo and released it silently. Cat Noir couldn't resist saying, "Bye, bye, little butterfly."

Ladybug wasn't amused. "You forgot to say it." He said smirking. "Shut up." Ladybug turned her attention to the girls. Zoé was cradling her sister in her arms, "I'm so sorry, I'll never hurt you like that again, I swear."

Cat Noir shared an uneasy glance with his partner, "She's not supposed to remember anything right?" Ladybug shook her head stopped and squinted at Cat Noir, "Did you use cataclysm twice?" Cat Noir checked his timer, "My timer didn't activate so I figured I had another shot. My timer is on now."

Ladybug, looked down at the blanket in her hand, "I don't get it, my lucky charm breaks, and you get a second charge on cataclysm." Cat Noir looked at the blanket, maybe it was a hint like the gong last year, rather than a means to success?" "Maybe, there's no point standing around here trying to figure it out."

"Miraculous Ladybug!"

At least this ability was working correctly, the formerly trashed hotel was completely restored to its, perfect, picturesque state from thirty minutes ago. Ladybug approached the girls cautiously, "Chloé I need that comb back." Chloé handed it back "Bye Pollen."

The heroes shared a nod left the building splitting up outside.

Zoé

Zoé watched the heroes go. It was over so quickly, they just left, "Chloé what was the comb?" Chloé smiled sheepishly, "Oh that was the Bee Miraculous, I use it to turn into Queen Bee sometimes."
