Chapter Five-Sunsets and Car crashes
I see a sense of wonder, deep inside your eyes as we're sparkling and twirling in the twilight…
There was something captivating about the setting sun and the way the light played off Cloud's hair in an explosion of color and feeling. Zack may have let himself get too sentimental about it but he couldn't help but think that he had never seen a more beautiful sight; not in this life, not in the next. His heart swelled and rose and burst with all the passion of the setting sun and he pulled Cloud up into his arms.
And in case you…in case you were wondering…you are like a sunset to me…
Zack could feel the way Cloud trembled beneath his touch, saw the way the color rose to his cheeks and his eyes gave everything away. This… this is what people lived and died for. This single moment that felt like heaven, where your soul seemed so high it was out of your body and exploding in a symphony somewhere among the stars. There was no space left between them as Zack kissed him softly, memorizing every detail about this one perfect moment. Cloud parted, his heart in his eyes as he let Zack lead him in a slow dance around the patio in the moonlight.
"In case you were wondering, you are like a sunset to me. You're all kinds of beautiful as you end my day."
And you sweetly retire as the stars chase you away…I'd collapse to the grass with your notes ringing in my head.
Cloud knew he was blushing, but he didn't dare look away from the brunet. He couldn't seem to tear his eyes away from Zack for fear that when he looked back, he would be gone again, like before. Compared to this moment, Cloud was certain he would die if he had to experience that darkness again. His heartstrings would come undone, and he would just…end. Zack pulled him even closer, his lips against Cloud's ear as he whispered softly to him, all the things that had been in his heart for years.
"In case you were wondering, you are like a hurricane to me. Your violence is beautiful and your center sweet."
In case you were wondering, you are like a sunset to me. You're all kinds of beautiful as you end my day and you sweetly retire as the stars chase you away.
Cloud didn't dare speak, hardly dared breathe in this moment he had dreamed about more than he cared to admit. It was more than he could have imagined. Zack in all his raw strength and vitality. The ethereal wings that seemed to surround them, creating their own private little world of moonlight and devotion. The pair kept slowly twirling around the patio, neither willing to end the dance, neither willing to move away and break the chance.
Don't let this end now, slow this dance down…I could stay here all night…Forever…
"I hope time could stop, it's hard for me to breathe." Cloud whispered against Zack's neck, the warmth of his skin sending Cloud's senses into a tailspin. He could stay here forever, dance with Zack forever. Forever was all he wanted. Cloud thought they at least deserved that much.
"This is not my strongest point, that you know, so pardon me for stepping on your toes." Zack chuckled, a deep rumbling sound in Cloud's ear and vibration against his chest. Something so simple so visceral and real it made Cloud's breathe catch in his throat and his eyes tear. Tears he blinked away because really, he was just pathetic at this point. But he couldn't help but think that it alright to feel things now.
"I'm not worried about my toes." Cloud told him, a bit more flatly than intended and he furrowed his brow, kicking himself for his gruff and short ways. Zack only chuckled again and kissed his cheek.
"I hope you need this now because I still do. Until the day I die, I'll spill my heart for you. For those years that I kept quiet, I'm sorry Cloud. I should have told you how I felt. I wanted too and then it was too late. I always thought I had more time. So much more time." Zack's voice was low and there was an unmistakable, unspeakable edge of sorrow.
How does it feel to know you're everything I need? I have a hard time saying this, so I'll sing it in a song…
"I adore the way you carry yourself with the grace of a thousand angels overhead. I love the way the galaxy starts to melt when we become one. If I had to choose a way to die, it would be with you. How does it feel to know you're everything I need, everything I want? I have seen heaven and I would trade it for an hour in your arms." The low tenor of Zack's voice, the warmth of his body and the moonlight made Cloud feel drunk.
At least you'll have my heart, you know you shine so bright. You know the moon is full and I can't live without you…
This is what people lived for, what they died for. This single moment that felt like heaven, where your soul seemed so high it was out of your body and exploding in a symphony somewhere among the stars. But that was the thing about moments.
They don't last forever.
Don't let this end now, slow this dance now. I could stay here all night, forever…
