This side story goes along with Chapter 34 of the main story "Cherry Tarts".
Did it Again
"So your misstion was a success?" Vangeance asked at the conclustion of Langris' and the newest member of the Golden Dawn, Klaus, misstion debriefing.
"Yes Captian," Langris replied. "We successfully detained the culprit behind the leaks of sensitive information to the Diamond Kingdom."
"Though, he might have lost a limb," Klaus added, glancing to Langris.
"Well, losing a limb is better then being dead... Great work, both of you. I will inform the Wizard King later... Though I'm certain he already knows... As for right now, the two of you are excused, I have a quick meeting with another Captain soon. Go socialize with the rest of the squad... That includes you, Langris, have a little fun before you have to go on another mission.
"Y-Yes, Captain." The only thing that's at lease a little fun around here is missions. Everything else is so boring, he sighed as he turned to leave.
"Also, Langris," Vangeance said once Klaus was gone.
"Hmm," he said looking back over his shoulder.
"Thank you for taking Klaus with you today. I know you where reluctant about taking a new member on a mission. What did you think of his abilities?"
"Does it mater what I think? I'm not the captain, so I don't see the point..."
"I just want your honest opinion, Langris, nothing more."
"He has great potential. I'll give him that. His steel magic is ideal for both attack and defense. Which is highly needed if you want to be a Magic Knight."
"What about the lose of the limb he mentioned? How did that happen?"
"That was an accident. I only meant to maim him enough so he couldn't try to escape... However when I cast my spell, he tried to run, causing more of the spell to hit his leg then I had planned."
"Well, those things happen sometimes. It's apart of the job description, sadly."
"Yes. I am very much aware of that, unlike my useless brother," he replied. He turned back to the door only to have it nearly slammed into his face. He stumbled backwards. "HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF KNOCKING!" he yelled before even looking to see who it was.
"Well, if it isn't Little-Mister-Spoiled-Vaude. I think you're brother is looking for you," Yami said. "Who the hell do you think you're talking too, anyway?"
"If you had been any other Captain, I would have apologized... But seeing that it's just you... forget it... I'm not apologizing to someone stupid enough to let someone like Ni-San in the Magic Knights," Langris replied walking past the Black Bulls captain.
Yami grabbed him by the arm. "Now you listen here, brat, there's a lot more to fighting then being able to take out one's opponent."
"Yeah, being able to defend oneself... Yet another thing that Ni-San can't do."
"Why don't you stop focusing on what he can't do and start focusing on what he can do."
"He can't do anything... right, at least... And that's his own fault, not mine. So why don't you mind your own business."
"Finral is my business."
"Wait... did you say Ni-san's here?" Langris replied, not only just realizing it, but also ignoring Yami's statement.
"A long time ago."
"Damn it," he said running through the door.
He ran down the halls and out the door to the court yard. He looked around until he spotted the familiar green and brown outfit, and the black Magic Knight's robe... and a girl in a Golden Dawns uniform talking to him.
"I think he just got back from a mission with some of the newbies..." he hard her say as he walked closer to them. He noticed that everyone in the court yard was watching the two... or rather his older brother. "He might be debriefing the Captain as we spea..." she continued before Langris decided to interrupt her.
"Ni-San. What are you doing here?" He said as he continued to walk up behind Finral.
Finral turned around at the sound of Langris' voice. "Langris! I brought you something!" he said holding up a basket that seemed a bit to large for Langris' liking.
Why would he bring me a gift? Idiot's always so nice to me... Why? He's nothing more then a pack mule! He thought, but instead replied, "Like I'd want anything from the shame of the family. I saw that captain of yours on his way to meet Captain Vangeance... You probably just brought that to say that you where coming here anyway and offered him a ride... when in reality he made you bring him, being his little pack mule and all."
Finral gave him a smile, the one he usually gave people when he agreed with their insults directed towards him. "A-Actually... it's cherry tarts, your favorite, I asked our newest member to make you some last night, she made some for when I got beck from our family dinner and they were really good, so I thought you might like some... She might have gone a little overboard though...," he said glancing at the basket. "But that was my fault... I told her you liked them and wouldn't complain if there were a lot... I only found out after breakfast that Yami needed to come and asked if I would bring him... of course he didn't know I was coming anyway, but..."
Langris sighed before turning back to the building and gestured for Finral to follow him inside.
"S-something wrong?" Finral asked as they walked down the hall.
As if you don't know! You're such an idiot! I thought we had an agreement! He thought but didn't respond as he continued to lead Finral through the Golden Dawn's base. After a few minutes of walking Langris stopped in front of a door before walking in.
Stupid, stupid, idiot! Why can't he ever do anything right! He's a complete embarrassment! He thought as Finral walked ahead of him and stopped as Langris closed the door. He didn't notice Finral looking around the bedroom or the bewildered expression on his face as he took in the size of it that turned into a happy smile, that Captain William Vangeance of the pristine Golden Dawn, actually was taking good care of his little brother after he, a member of the Black Bulls, led by a foreigner, asked him too.
Lost in his annoyed thoughts, he absentmindedly took the basket from his brother and sat it on his desk.
Before he knew it, his thoughts turned to rage as he walked back to his brother, still looking around the room. Realizing the basket was gone, Finral glanced down at his arm where it had hung then up to Langris, right as the younger brother grabbed him by his robes and shoved him into the door behind him.
"The hell do you think you're doing, Ni-San?!" He said angrily, yet calmly... almost threateningly.
"W-what are you talking about?" Finral asked in shock.
"If you've so much as done anything to farther embarrass the house of Vaude, while you were unsupervised in that court yard, talking to that girl... or anyone for that mater... I swear I'll fill you with holes so fast you'll never see it coming!" Langris said, not meaning to sound as angry as he had.
"W-what? W-what did I do?" Finral sputtered. "She came up to me, I was content with laying in the grass, watching the clouds, hoping you showed up while I waited for Yami to finish talking to Captain Vangeance."
So you weren't going to go look for me like that foreigner said! You were just going to wait for me to come to you! ...You were probably hoping that I didn't come! "That's not what I was talking about! I thought I told you not to show up at my squads base! If you have something to say to me, send a letter and I'll meet you in town!"
"But isn't it more convenient for you if I just use my magic and come to you, rather then making you stop your work or whatever to meet me somewhere? Besides I didn't want to talk, I wanted to bring you a gift... Unless you want to talk..."
Talk?! What could I possibly want to talk about with you!
"There's that festival coming up soon... if you want..."
"I'm a Magic Knight. I'm busy," Langris said shoving him again as he let go of Finral's robe and stepping back.
"W-we could see if we can go on a joined squad mission to patrol the festival... You could catch any criminal that might be there and I could..."
You could what?! What could you possibly do that I can't?! I'm better then you at everything! So shut up! "I said no!"
"R-right... s-sorry... I just thought..."
You thought what? That we could go hang out at a festival and everything will be fine! Well that's not happening! "Maybe you should just stop thinking. I'm not going to go somewhere and goof off with you! I have more important things to do like prepare for when I become head of our house!"
"R-right... Sorry," Finral said looking to the floor as he began to walk.
Langris realized that he was going over to the desk he had sat the cherry tarts, his cherry tarts! He was going to try to take back the gift! The gift of delicious cherry tarts! Not happening in a million years!
"Leave it." Langris said, perhaps a bit too sternly.
Finral's head snapped up, brows narrowed in confusion, "but you said..."
"Leave the cherry tarts and go," Langris repeated, turning away from Finral as he folded his arms across his chest.
"Okay. I'll see you later Langris," at that, Finral left the room.
"Damn it," he sighed. I did it again. Why am I always blowing up on him? He walked over to the basket and lifted the lid. Did he really want to come just to bring me some cherry tarts? He reached in to the basket and pulled one out. They look edible, despite being made by a Black Bull..., he thought as he took a bite. His eyes went wide for a moment. T-they are! Where the heck did the Black Bulls, of all squads, get someone who can cook like that?! A small smile formed on his face, but it was gone as quickly as it came.
He closed the lid and sat in the chair. He buried his face in his arms on the desk.
"What the hell is wrong with me?" He muttered.
Got a surprise! I'm planning on another side story for this chapter! That's right! Two side stories for one chapter!
