"I'm home, Dad," I called as I stepped in the door. "What was so urgent?" I walked into the living room to find my dad talking to a… boy? Why was my dad talking to a boy?
"Ah, Kaylee!" my dad said. He got up and walked towards me. He took my hand and led me to the couch. "This is Zachary." I smiled politely as my dad introduced me.
"She's the one I told you about," my dad said. I looked at him confused.
"What do you mean 'the one I told you about?'" I asked.
"So, I know you hang out with Joon, but you need more friends," he said. " So, I met Zach at work and he said you sounded like a nice girl, and he wanted to hang out sometime."
"Dad, I was studying," I said. "Couldn't this wait?"
"You're… not happy, are you?" my dad asked.
"Why would I be? You talked about me to a random boy I don't even know, told him, what, that I don't have any friends? So he wanted to hang out with me, without even meeting me. And you ruined my study session. I have, like, three tests tomorrow. So, no, I'm not very happy." I went upstairs to my room and pulled out my phone to text Joon.
Hey.
Hey
What's up?
Uhm, not much. My dad brought a boy to my
house bc apparently I need "more friends"
Oof.
Well, you don't need "more friends"
Mm. And why not?
Bc you have me :)
How'd I know you were going to say that?
lol
Question.
What's up?
Do you think maybe by "more friends"
your dad maybe meant a boyfriend?
A boyfriend? Really?
Wait…
Okay, maybe.. It's not impossible.
So what'd you do?
Like how'd you react?
Uhh.
I may or may not have told my dad off.
And probably got myself grounded. :(
That's not good. :(
Wait…
Remember how at dinner today, my mom
asked if we were dating?
Yea…
So what if we pretended to date?
I don't get it.
Like.. we just say we're dating, and
since we're best friends, we don't really have
to act any different than we already do.
…
Seems like you put a lot of thought into that.
Lolol
Sure.
Wait, really?
Yea.
Your mom and grandma seem to want it.
And I want my dad to chill out.
So if I tell him I'm dating someone, he'll go back to
normal, I guess. I hope.
"Normal"? lol
You know what I mean.
Yea, I know. So it's a deal?
Yea, I'm down.
Hold on
I'll brb my dad's coming.
K. Bye.
I quickly put my phone down as my dad opened the door to my room. I watched him as he walked over and sat on my bed. He sighed.
"Look, Kaylee. I'm sorry," he said.
"For what?" I asked.
"For… what happened downstairs. For not being there. For not being a very good father," he ranted.
"You're not a bad father," I said. "You're just… stressed." My dad smiled. I thought for a moment before saying," Question."
"Answer," my dad said.
"What did you mean by 'more friends'? I have a feeling you didn't really mean 'friend', but 'boyfriend.'"
"Uh-" my dad started.
"You meant 'boyfriend' didn't you?!" I gasped, laughing. "I knew it! Well, you don't have to worry about that, Dad."
"I'm sorry?" my dad asked. "You have a boyfriend? Since when, missy? Does your mother know about this?" I laughed at the sudden interrogation.
"No, she doesn't."
"Well?" my dad pressed. "Who's the guy? I know him, right?"
"Yes, you know him. It's Joon." My dad looked shocked.
"Joon? The same Joon that practically lived here when you two were kids?"
I chuckled. "Yes, Dad, that Joon."
"Was that who you were texting before I came in? Don't think I didn't see you put away your phone."
"Yes, I was texting him before, but he asked if I could send him the study guide. Like I said, we have, like, three tests tomorrow."
"Mm. You better not be lying."
"I'm not!" I said, laughing.
"Okay. But I got my eyes on you, little lady." I laughed and he hugged me. I hugged him back, and he left. Probably to go to work. I pulled my phone back out and texted Joon.
Hey.
Hey.
Again.
lol
I told my dad we were "dating" and he
seemed cool with it.
I just don't think we'll have as many
sleepovers anymore.
lolol
I told my family and everyone
seemed happy.
They didn't look surprised tho
Lol
Hey, you never sent me the study
guide
Oh right
