(For this part listen to Vikings 18. Floki's Fire Soundtrack Score It is morning. The norse people are going about their lives unaware of the recent events. Gulbrandr has a meeting with the community leaders. They all sit at the round table. for this part listen to Vikings 25. Making A Deal Soundtrack Score and Vikings 16. Gulbrandr: Thurid, Grom, Njal and Svend, my friends. Thank you for taking the time to meet me at this hour. There is much to discuss. Before we start, I would like to announce that we will be presenting our son later on today. Now onto business. Yesterday during the festival one of our patrol spotted something out in the distance. I used the crystal scope to get a better view of what he spoke of. It turned out to be several people but not of our own kind.
(they all are surprised)
Grom: I thought Vinland was uninhabited?
Gulbrandr: Vinland could be much larger than the stories spoken of it. They are many things about these lands that we do not know about yet.
Njal: These peoples, what did they look like?
Gulbrandr: From what I saw, they wear strange clothing with feathers in their hair. Whoever, whatever they are, they know that we are here. I'm still thinking how we should tell the people.
Thurid: We should secure the farmland borders. Our crops have been sown and have begun to sprout. In a land which seasons are unknown, we cannot afford to be attacked.
Gulbrandr: I don't think they will attack us.
Svend: What makes you so sure my lord?
Gulbrandr: Just as I am curious about them, I think they are curious about us. Perhaps they know this land better than us. The question is how do we communicate with these..peoples. I don't think they could speak our language.
(They hear a Viking horn sound off in the distance. Gulbrandr gets up an looks outside. Addresses the others.)
Gulbrandr: Its Bjartr. He's back! (He waives at him) BJARTR!
(The people gather by the dock. Bjartr, Grid and the warriors get of the boat. They are a mess. The people fall from the cheering and giving into looks of concern. Gulbrandr and the others approach him.)
Gulbrandr: You look like a mess, what happened?
(Bjartr grabs a mead horn and drinks.)
Bjartr: We found a iron deposit. But...we found something else.
Gulbrandr: You are missing some warriors.
Bjartr: They're dead.
Gulbrandr: Some of you, bring a long table with food and drink.
(Villagers bring table and food. They scarf down the food and drink)
Gulbrandr: What happened out there.
Bjartr: We found a mountain with iron ore south from here. We set up camp to spend the night there. After the sun had set we were attacked.
(The people start talking amongst themselves)
Gulbrandr: Silence! Let him speak.
Bjartr: We were attacked by monsters of some kind.
Gulbrandr: The black water dragons?
Bjartr: No. These things looked unnatural, not of Midgard, nor anything in the realms. Grid, show him
(Grid brings a bloody bag and opens it. She takes out it contents, a decapitated wendigo head and places it on the table. The people gasp.)
Grid: This is what attacked us my lord.
(Gulbrandr pick up the Wendigo's head and looks into pale dead eyes)
Grid: Those things are very strong. It broke through our shield wall. We probably be dead had not been for a group of strange warriors that aided us.
(Gulbrandr thinks)
Gulbrandr: These people...did they have feathers in their hair and strange clothing?
(Bjartr and Grid seem surprised)
Bjartr: Yes. How do you know that?
Gulbrandr: Because we saw them too.
(Gulbrandr steps onto the table)
Gulbrandr: My people, there is something you all should know. We are not alone in Vinland. There are a peoples out there. They saw us during the celebration.
(They talk amongst themselves)
Gulbrandr: There is no need to be concerned. I do not believe that they will attack us, not after helping Bjartr. If anything, we are in their dept. Perhaps they can tell us more about these things. But if you should you feel uneasy about all this, you may arm yourselves and you shall have warriors and shield maidens, my personal guard, to escort you, especially the farmers. Now, there is work to be done. Our new home will not build itself.
(They all agree and the crowd disperse. However, the ambience has changed)
Gulbrandr: Lets resume this counsil later.
Grid: My lord, what should we do about that?
(He looks at the wendigo head.)
Gulbrandr: Burn it. I don't want its stench in this village. You all get some rest now. You'll need it.
(For this part listen to The Last Kingdom Lívstræðrir. Gulbrandr walks to his ship. He looks up only to see Roisin holding their new born.)
Gulbrandr: My love. I thought you...
Roisin: There is no need to explain. I overheard everything.
(Gulbrandr places his hand on their son)
Gulbrandr: So small yet so strong. He will be a giant among men.
(Roisin smiles)
Roisin: He will. Do you have a name in mind?
Gulbrandr: Let see...I was thinking of...Hróðgeirr.
Roisin: After your father?
Gulbrandr: Yes. My father was a strong and proud man. He was also very wise. Little Hróðgeirr.
Roisin: Its a good name. So, what are you going to do?
Gulbrandr: I'm not sure. The old stories never mentioned people living here in Vinland, nor these creatures that Bjartr and Grid fought. The future of our people and our son is uncertain. If we are to survive and live in this land, we need to know everything about it and its peoples.
Roisin: How will you find them?
Gulbrandr: The animals they rode on would have left tracks. We have some warriors, including myself, will track them.
Roisin: Then I will go with you.
Gulbrandr: I don't think you should.
Roisin: Before I became a mother, I too was a warrior. Wherever you go, I follow. You can't talk me out of this.
(Gulbrandr chuckles)
Gulbrandr: You're still the same fiery red haired goddess I fell in love with all those years ago. Very well, you may come but you will bring at least two shield maidens with you. We will be leave after you are ready.
(the camera zooms away from Viðrfold and toward the Chickasaw village. Tauri, Chief Kele, the elders and the shaman Ameyelli are all having a meeting of their own. For this part listen to NATIVE AMERICAN FLUTE & DRUMS SACRED SPIRIT on youtube. It should be the first video. Play video at 75x speed or normal speed.)
Tauri: We fought with the strangers and manage to kill three wendigos. More were coming and we left. The strangers got away in their long canoe.
Ameyelli: The evil spirits are awakening. The moon will soon be full. I will speak to the great spirits to guide us for the battle.
Chief Kele: What more can you tell us about these strangers.
(Tauri presents his Kele with something wrapped in a pelt, a warrior brings another thing wrapped in a pelt. Kele unwraps it to reveal a viking sword. Ameyelli unwraps the other which reveals several arrows with iron tipped heads and a steel viking knife. The villagers are shocked and amazed to see such things)
Chief Kele: What is this? It shines brightly.
Tauri: The strangers fought with these weapons against the Evil Spirits.
(Kele grabs the sword by the handle and holds it.)
Tauri: Becareful, Kele. These weapons are sharp like flint but strong like stone. It can cut through hide, flesh and bone.
(Ameyelli inspects the arrows.)
Ameyelli: I recognize the stones of the earth but I have never seen this kind before.
Chief Kele: The question is are they friends or foes. Maybe we should go to them and return their weapons. I have so many questions, we all do.
(The elders and villagers agree amongst themselves.)
Kele: We can learn more about these strangers for they already know about us. That is what we will do. We leave when the first stone shadow shortens.
