A few days have passed since Jason and his team got back from the planet called Chulak. It took some time but Jason and his team got everything explained to Reyes and Salter in the Retribution. Reyes and Salter didn't like how things turned out with these Goa'ulds but understood that Jason and his team had no choice but to shoot their way out because the Goa'uld were definitely a very hostile race.
They were also thinking about what they should do with Teal'c who willingly became their 'prisoner' although he was more like their guest even though he spent most of the time in the ship's cell. Teal'c offered Reyes everything he knew about the Goa'ulds and loyalty to the ship's crew and Earth. Of course, Reyes couldn't refuse this offer but he also told Admiral about the situation. Since the admiralty and UNSA were very interested in what intel Teal'c had to offer, Sumner decided to come with his own cruiser to meet Teal'c in person while asking questions.
While the crew of the Retribution was waiting for Admiral Sumner's arrival, Jason along with Jake and Ethan were in the lab checking out some of the Goa'ulds' tech they were able to salvage, like a staff weapon for example. They were also checking images of the chamber filled with symbols they found from the village.
"So let me get this straight. The stargate can take us wherever we want to go with the data you found from that chamber?" Jason asked.
"We downloaded the coordinates into the computer when we got back from Chulak and Ethan is calculating them right now. It will take time but we should get two or three destinations per week," Jake explained.
"Thanks. What are you checking by the way beside the staff weapon?" Jason asked.
"I'm checking if there's anything about the stargate back on Earth. Files, research, references, anything," Jake said.
"And have you found anything?" Jason asked.
"Nothing so far. Of course, this would go a lot faster with Ethan but since he's calculating the gate destinations, I'll have to check this myself," Jake said.
Before Jason could ask another question, Korra walked into the lab.
"Hey, guys," Korra said.
"Hi, Korra. You okay?" Jason asked.
"Yeah, I just can't sleep," Korra said sadly.
Jason didn't need to be a genius to see that Korra was still sad about what happened to Asami and what she has become. He gently pulled her into a hug she gladly accepted because Korra needed comfort right now.
"Korra, I know that we had to leave her but we had no other choice," Jason said.
"She was one of the best friends I ever had and now she's gone," Korra said with tears threatening to fall from her eyes.
"She's still out there, Korra. We'll find her," Jason said.
"I just miss her so much," Korra sobbed.
Jason gently pulled away from the hug and made Korra look at him.
"Korra, we miss Asami too. But you've got to have hope that we'll find her and save her someday," Jason said trying to comfort Korra.
"But how long will it take until we find her?" Korra asked sobbing.
"You've just got to have faith," Jason said.
Korra still felt sad for the loss of Asami but felt a little better now. After she wiped the tears from her eyes, she looked at Jason again with a small smile.
"Thanks, I really needed that," Korra said.
"Anything for a friend," Jason said making Korra smile.
After Korra felt a little better now, Jason wanted to ask how her friends were doing.
"How's Bolin by the way?" Jason asked.
"He's doing a little better now but he's still sad about Asami," Korra said.
"What about Mako?" Jason asked not sure if he wanted to know.
"He's still in his quarters. I tried to talk to him but he won't come out," Korra said.
"What about Bolin?" Jason asked.
"Mako didn't let him in either. He has completely isolated himself from everyone," Korra said being worried about Mako.
"Maybe he will come out of his quarters eventually," Jason said.
"I hope so, but hopefully it won't take forever," Korra said.
They were suddenly interrupted when the ship's alarm went off.
"What the hell?" Jake asked.
"Alert, inbound traveler," the technician said through the ship's loudspeaker.
Jason and the others quickly left the lab and headed to the gate room. But when they got there, they saw that the wormhole was established but the gate shield was on and the marines were standing at a safe distance from the stargate aiming their guns at it.
Luckily Reyes and Salter were there and Jason began to ask what was happening.
"What's going on, sir?" Jason asked.
"We're not sure. We didn't get the shield code so we assume that it's the Goa'ulds," Reyes said.
Suddenly something impacted the gate shield but didn't get through, then there was another one and then more. Reyes and the others thought that it was definitely the Goa'uld and the ones that were impacting the shield were their Jaffa troops.
"Those Goa'ulds are persistent, I give them that," Salter said.
"But they can't keep attacking us forever, right?" Korra asked.
"Once they realize that they can't get through our shield they should just give up," Jake said.
"If Mako was here, he would probably want you guys to let them through. He could really use some fire bending exercise right now," Bolin said.
"This is not the time for jokes, Bolin," Jason said.
"What?" Bolin asked innocently.
It didn't take long until the gate shut down and the shield was turned off. The technicians scanned the gate but didn't find anything hazardous, but Reyes wanted them to run a full diagnosis just in case. While the technicians were doing the diagnosis
"I just hope it's only the Jaffa who hit the shield," Jason said making his friends look at him.
"You don't think the Goa'ulds are sending people through, do you?" Jake asked.
"Wouldn't be the first time we have seen someone using that tactic," Jason said referring to the SDF.
When it was confirmed that all was clear, Reyes told the marines in the gate room to stand down. But their moment of relaxing was short-lived when the stargate started dialing again.
"Inbound traveler, activating the gate shield," the technician said as he turned the gate shield on.
"Not again," Korra said.
"All defense teams, remain in position," Reyes said through the loudspeaker.
When the seventh symbol engaged, the wormhole was established and the Goa'uld troops started hitting the shield again making loud hitting noises while the incoming Jaffa were crushed as soon as they hit the gate shield.
"Your shield is gonna hold, right?" Korra asked.
"The gate shield is set three micrometers from the event horizon which won't allow the matter to reintegrate," Jake explained.
"Meaning?" Korra asked.
"Meaning that as long as the shield is on, nothing will get through," Jason said.
Soon the gate shut down again and everything was clear, for now at least. After another scan on the gate, Reyes told the marines to stand down again but remain in their positions just in case. While Reyes and other high-ranking officers were busy, Jason turned to his friends.
"I'm gonna go to check on Teal'c. Wanna come along?" Jason asked.
"Sorry but I need to go back to the lab to finish my research," Jake said before leaving the control room.
"What about you Korra?" Jason asked.
"I can come with you. I promised to go to see master Kya but I still have time before that," Korra said.
Jason nodded and left the control room with Korra to the holding cells. When they got there, the guard opened the door and let them into the room where Teal'c was being held. When Jason and Korra were in, they noticed that Teal'c was performing his Kelno'reem meditation.
"Uh, hi," Korra said feeling a little shy.
"Did we interrupt anything?" Jason asked.
"Yes," Teal'c simply said.
"Oh," Jason and Korra said.
They stood there watching Teal'c meditating until he broke the silence.
"The people from Chulak..." Teal'c said.
"We sent the last of them back through the gate before the Goa'ulds started sending their troops," Jason said.
"Good," Teal'c said.
"They have you thank for that, Teal'c. Without you, they never would have gotten back their homes," Korra said.
Teal'c didn't reply or say anything but Jason and Korra could tell that he felt glad about what Korra said.
"So, how long do you think they'll keep attacking?" Jason asked.
"One, perhaps two more attempts. They will believe their weapons have destroyed you. They will not send warriors through for some time to make sure of your destruction," Teal'c told them.
"Well, I guess the Goa'ulds will be facing a big disappointment, huh?" Korra said.
"Your shield will be activated. They will be crushed," Teal'c said.
"Yeah, it's the only way for us to prevent them from getting through," Jason said.
They stood there quietly for a moment until Teal's asked a question.
"Am I a prisoner?" Teal'c asked.
"Well, uh, not exactly," Korra said.
"We tried to convince Captain Reyes to release you but he can't right now because our leaders are coming to meet you," Jason said.
"I understand," Teal'c said.
"We're not exactly living up to your expectations of us, are we?" Jason said as he grabbed the nearby chairs.
After he turned them around and he and Korra sat down, they looked at Teal'c who was staring at the wall.
"Look, Teal'c, we have been living alone in our worlds for a long time. And I think... the people we work for need to get to know you a little better," Jason said.
"Yeah, and I'm sure they'll let you join us when they know you," Korra said.
"But before that, they want to know everything you can tell us about the Goa'ulds," Jason said.
"I will give that knowledge freely," Teal'c said.
"We know you will and we'll put it to good use," Korra said.
"I will pledge my allegiance to your worlds," Teal'c said.
"We're just not sure if that's ever gonna be enough for them to trust you. To be honest with you, I think they're afraid of you," Jason said.
"I understand," Teal'c said.
"You're used to that by now, huh?" Korra asked.
"I am a Jaffa. I have served as a warrior for your enemy. I have carried your enemy within me," Teal'c said.
"Yeah. Well, it's kind of a thing for us humans. We tend to be afraid of things we don't know or understand," Jason said.
"Why are Connor and Korra not afraid?" Teal'c asked as he turned to them.
"Teal'c, we saw you stand against a god. You refused to kill us, we saw you making that decision," Jason said.
"Yes," Teal'c said.
"At that moment we learned everything we needed to know to trust you," Korra said.
"If I had killed you then, I would not be here now," Teal'c said.
"Neither would we," Jason said.
After he said, he noticed that Korra needed to go now because she had a visit with Kya. As he and Korra got up from their chairs and put them away, Teal'c swore that he would prove that he's not a threat to their peoples.
"I will my allegiance, Connor, Korra," Teal'c said.
"Teal'c, we really wish you didn't have to," Jason said.
"When I do... you will show me your worlds?" Teal'c asked.
"Of course," Korra said with a smile.
After that, they left the cell and Teal'c continued his Kelno'reem meditation.
Later
A few hours later, the time when Admiral Sumner along with a special guest has almost reached the world of benders, Jake discovered something great while doing his research on the stargate.
"This can't be," Jake said.
After that, he grabbed his tablet, uploaded the intel he found into it and left the lab to search for Jason and the others. Luckily he didn't have to search for long when he ran to Jason who was walking in the hallway.
"Jason, good that I found you," Jake said.
"You okay, Jake?" Jason asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine. But you need to see this," Jake said.
He turned on his tablet and showed Jason the image of what looked like a top-secret file from the 1990s.
"What's that?" Jason asked.
"A top-secret file I found during the research. There's also a digital version about it," Jake said.
"But what does it say or what's in that file?" Jason asked.
"It contains the reports and information about the first stargate mission that was done in 1996," Jake said.
As soon as Jake told him that, Jason froze like a statue. If someone on Earth went through the stargate for the first time back in the 1990s, then there had to be a stargate back on Earth. But why they never heard about it or what happened to the stargate back on Earth.
"What? Someone on Earth found a stargate and went through it?" Jason asked after he recovered from the shock.
"Yes. I didn't finish reading the report but that's what happened back in the 1990s," Jake said.
"But how come we never heard about this before? And what happened to the stargate on Earth?" Jason asked.
"From what I was able to gather, the Earth stargate was hidden and locked away in Area 51," Jake said.
"Area 51? But that place was shut down years ago," Jason said.
"Yes, but it's still storage for all top-secret stuff and classified materials. And I bet the Earth stargate is still there," Jake said.
He was about to tell more until they received a word that Admiral Sumner's cruiser had just arrived at the planet's orbit and that the admiral would soon arrive with the Raven dropship. Jason and Jake knew that they had to tell the others about what Jake found but they couldn't disturb the admiral now in the important meeting.
A few moments later
After Sumner and his special guest arrived in the Retribution, they were escorted to the ship's briefing room where Teal'c along with two guards were waiting. When Reyes and the admiral arrived, Reyes began the introductions.
"Welcome, Teal'c. This is Admiral John Sumner, the commander of the UNSA navy and military forces. And the man next to him is Colonel Jack Connor, the commander of the SATO forces," Reyes said as he introduced his superiors.
"It is an honor to meet you, Teal'c," Sumner said.
"And I'd like to thank you for saving my son and his team on Chulak," Jack said.
"The admiral and colonel wanted to meet you in person and also to gather information, uh, knowledge about our potential enemies," Reyes said.
"I offer my knowledge of the Goa'ulds. I offer my skills as a warrior in defeating them. I pledge my honor and my life to your world," Teal'c said swearing his loyalty to the UNSA.
"Uh, thank you," Sumner said.
"This is just an informal meeting, son. Take a seat," Reyes said.
But when they were about to start the meeting, Jason and Jake walked into the room.
"Forgive us for interrupting, sirs. But we just found-"
Jason suddenly stopped what he was saying when he saw his father sitting next to Sumner.
"Dad?" Jason asked.
"Surprise," Jack said with a smile.
Jason stood there for a second until he hugged his father. They didn't see each other often because of their jobs but it always brought joy for them when they had a chance to see each other.
"Not that I'm not happy to see you dad but what are you doing here?" Jason asked.
"I invited Jack to come here as a little surprise," Sumner said with a smile.
"Thank you, sir. It was very nice," Jason said.
"I had a few days off so I decided to come to see how you're doing. And I got to say, this job you enlisted to is amazing," Jack said.
"Thanks, Dad," Jason said.
"I also read your and the captain's mission reports, especially the one involving the Leviathan incident. You were very brave that day and proved yourself a great leader," Jack said feeling very proud for his son.
"Dad, please. You're making me blush," Jason said feeling a little awkward.
After the family reunion between the father and son, they turned back to the meeting with Teal'c who was sitting in front of the table with two guards behind him.
"Sorry about that, Teal'c. Connors here don't get a chance to see each other often because of their duties," Sumner said.
"I understand," Teal'c said politely.
"Anyway, Teal'c, what can you tell us about the Goa'ulds?" Sumner asked.
"They rule by force. Their numbers were very few, but they are growing," Teal'c said.
"How many worlds they control?" Jack asked.
"Many hundreds. Perhaps more," Teal'c said.
"And should we expect to encounter these Goa'ulds everywhere we go either through the gate or by a ship?" Sumner asked.
"It is possible," Teal'c said.
While Teal'c was answering Sumner and Jack's questions, Jake and Jason showed Reyes from the tablet what Jake found during his research on the stargate and studying the top-secret files from the 1990s.
"But there are many more worlds that the Goa'ulds have no use for. In those worlds people are abandoned and left to fend for themselves," Teal'c said.
"Is there any leadership or government we could negotiate with for peace?" Jack asked.
"Some, like Apophis, are great kings and rule over many worlds as their gods. But they do not need peace. If they could kill you, they would," Teal'c said.
The officers in the room now got a confirmation that negotiating with the Goa'ulds was clearly not an option since they were a very war-like race.
"I see," Jack said understanding what Teal'c meant.
"Do the Goa'ulds have space ships?" Sumner asked.
"Yes. Without the stargate, such a journey would take many months, perhaps even years. It would take many vessels, many slave armies," Teal'c said.
"We're not that much of the threat to them just yet," Jason added.
"These slaves, where do they come from?" Sumner asked.
"There is a tale of a primitive world the Goa'uld discovered millennia ago, the Tau'ri. The first world where forms of this type evolved.
When Teal'c mentioned the last part of his sentence, the officers had a pretty good idea of what the world Teal'c was talking about.
"It is said the Goa'uld harvested among the primitives. Some became Goa'uld hosts. Others became Jaffa. The rest were taken as slaves and seeded among the stars to serve them. But that world has been lost for centuries," Teal'c said finishing what he knew about the Tau'ri and where the Goa'uld found their hosts and slaves.
After Jason and Jake showed Sumner and Jack their discoveries, they decided to tell Teal'c that the Tau'ri he talked about was their home planet Earth.
"Teal'c, beings of this form evolved on our world, Earth," Jack told Teal'c.
The sudden revelation took Teal'c completely by surprise.
"Your world?" Teal'c asked.
"Is the world you're talking about, Teal'c. We just found out that the Goa'uld named Ra came to Earth thousands of years ago. If our ancestors hadn't rebelled and buried the stargate..." Jason said.
"You would have not become strong enough to challenge them," Teal'c said.
"Then that means the galaxy is populated by the ancients peoples of Earth," Sumner said.
"There could be millions by now, sir," Reyes said.
"Then you are their greatest hope... and mine," Teal'c said.
Later
After the meeting, Sumner and Jack were convinced that Teal'c truly on their side so they gave him his own quarters and allowed him to move freely in the ship as long as he informed either Reyes or Salter where he was going.
Jake also told everyone in the briefing room the rest about what he found. It turned out that the stargate on Earth was first activated in 1945 when a scientist named Ernest Littlefield went through and came back a few days later with rare and extraordinary artifacts, and a lot of knowledge he found from the planet he visited. But they couldn't dial other planets because of the stellar drift that changed the coordinates of the planets and the scientists had no idea how to adjust the new coordinates. As a result, the US government shut down the project and hid the stargate from the world.
But in 1996 the stargate program was started again and at that time the scientists found a planet called Abydos and the US military sent the team with Colonel Jack O'Neill leading it along with an archeologist and linguist named Doctor Daniel Jackson. During that mission, they encountered the Goa'uld named Ra who was killed when the bomb was detonated on board his ship. But after the team got back, the gate was buried again because the military believed it was the only way to stay hidden from the Goa'uld.
While Jason and the others were still discussing in the briefing room, Korra and Kya were walking in the ship's hallway.
"I must say, this ship is impressive," Kya said.
"Yes, but wait when you see the best part," Korra said.
But while they were walking, Kya could tell that something was bothering Korra.
"Is something bothering you, Korra?" Kya asked.
"Wha? No, no. Nothing's wrong, I'm completely fine," Korra said.
"I have been your teacher with my mother nearly your whole life, Korra. You can tell me anything," Kya said.
Korra knew that she couldn't hide from Kya what she has been thinking lately so she decided to tell her the truth.
"Look, Kya. I have been thinking a lot lately," Korra said.
"About what happened to Asami?" Kya asked.
Yes. I tried to save her but I couldn't," Korra said.
"Hey, it was not your fault. And your friends did everything they could to help you," Kya said.
"I know but I can't stay here and do nothing," Korra said.
"What are you saying?" Kya asked.
Korra knew that what she was about to tell her teacher was going to shock her but she had to tell her.
"I have considered going with Jason and the crew when they leave," Korra said.
This surprised Kya completely because she never expected that Korra would want to go with Jason and his people to the stars looking for Asami and explore other worlds.
"What? But you can't leave our world, Korra. As the Avatar, it is your duty to bring balance to the world," Kya said.
"I know. But I have seen what it's like out there in space. How the Goa'uld enslaves the people and rule like tyrants," Korra said.
"But what about your family and friends? How would they react when they find out that you want to leave?" Kya asked.
"Believe me, this is not an easy decision for me. But I believe it is my duty to bring balance to the galaxy as well," Korra said.
Kya couldn't believe what Korra just said but she was also impressed by her speech. It was true that Korra's duty as the Avatar was to bring balance to the world but bring it to the whole galaxy was another story.
"Korra, if you feel that it is your duty to go, I will not stop you. But you must tell your friends and family about it," Kya said.
Korra knew that Kya was right and nodded. Then she gave Kya a hug she gladly returned.
"Thank you for understanding, Kya," Korra said.
"You're like a daughter to me, Korra. I'd do anything for you," Kya said.
After they broke the hug, the door of the briefing room was opened and the officers came out. When Jack was about to head back to the ship's hangar, he accidentally bumped into Kya and they both fell on the floor.
"I'm so sorry, ma'am. I didn't mean bump into you like that," Jack apologized.
"It's alright. I wasn't watching where I was going," Kya said.
But when Jack and Kya looked at each other, they felt like the time has stopped. When Jack was looking at Kya, he tried to resist blushing forming upon his cheeks but he couldn't because he had never seen anyone so beautiful after Jason's mother. And while Kya was looking at Jack, she tried to hide her blush but it was useless. They both found each other very attractive even though Jack and Kya were the same age.
"Uh, hi. My name is Jack, Jack Connor. I'm Jason's father," Jack said feeling a little awkward.
"Uh, Hello. It's nice to meet you. My name is Kya, I'm Korra's mentor," Kya said shyly.
"Again, I'm very sorry for bumping into you," Jack apologized as he offered her a hand.
"It's alright, I wasn't hurt or anything," Kya said as she grabbed Jack's hand and he helped her up.
As they were standing there, they couldn't take their eyes off of each other. Jack hasn't felt like this except when he met Jason's mother and Kya couldn't believe that she had just fallen for Jack, even though she was interested in women. But she was just so attracted to Jack right now even he was a man.
They were suddenly interrupted when Sumner spoke.
"Uh, Colonel," Sumner said.
"Oh, sorry, sir. I'll be in the dropship shortly," Jack said.
Sumner nodded and left with his guards towards the ship's hangar while Jack stayed behind for a little longer. Before leaving, he turned to his son Jason.
"Jason, I just want you to know that I'm very proud of you," Jack said.
"Thanks, Dad," Jason said with a smile.
Jack smiled back at his son before he turned to Korra.
"Take care of my son," Jack asked.
"I will, I promise," Korra said.
Then Jack turned to Kya who was still blushing a little and feeling a little awkward but she felt her heart getting warm when Jack was close.
"I know we just met but, will we see each other again?" Jack asked.
Kya simply smiled and pulled Jack into a hug.
"Don't worry. I'll wait for you," Kya said.
Jack didn't react at first but eventually returned the hug and made Kya feel so special. After they broke the hug, Jack said his goodbyes to everyone and joined Sumner who was waiting for him in the dropship.
After they embarked from the Retribution and entered Sumner's cruiser, it headed back to Earth with Jack and Sumner onboard. While they were watching at the sky from the Retribution, Korra couldn't help but ask a question.
"So, what happens now?" Korra asked.
A week later
It took a lot of convincing but Korra's family and friends agreed to let her go with Jason and the crew of the Retribution. Of course, Korra's parents and friends felt sad that Korra was going to leave but she promised that she'd come back to see them every time she could.
Mako insisted that he should come along to look for Asami but Korra told him that he had to stay in her world. Mako of course refused at first but Korra told him that Bolin and the others needed him and that she would find Asami and bring her home. It wasn't easy but Mako finally agreed to stay behind.
Reyes and his crew also received word that the stargate was found in Area 51 back on Earth and the UNSA was beginning to build a base where the Earth gate would be kept and where Reyes and anyone will go when they go to Earth through the stargate. Retribution also received a few new upgrades such as energy weapons the SDF used during the war. They also received both UNSA and SDF equipment, vehicles, and weapons for the crew, they even got some new combat robots.
After the Retribution left the world of benders, it headed towards the Perseus system but didn't use the FTL so the stargate could be used in the ship.
When Ethan discovered several new planets with stargates, Reyes decided to form a few teams that would go through the stargate to perform reconnaissance, determine threats, and establish peaceful relations with the people of different worlds if possible.
Jason's team was given the name SG-1, it consisted of Jason, Jake, Korra, and Teal'c. It didn't really take a lot of convincing to get Reyes to let Korra and Teal'c join SG-1 because Korra could control all four elements and Teal'c was a skilled warrior who also had intel about the Goa'uld tactics.
After Ethan and the technicians dialed the gate and established the wormhole, Reyes walked to the gate room to check Jason and his team (Jason and Jake have their SCAR spacesuits and helmets with balaclavas under them while Teal'c has the regular blue camo combat outfit with a black vest and Korra has her regular Water Tribe outfit).
"Lieutenant Connor, is SG-1 ready to go?" Reyes asked.
"We're ready, sir," Jason said.
"Then you have a go for a standard recon mission to P3-575," Reyes said.
"Yes, sir," Jason said.
Then the door opened and Teal'c walked in all geared up and carrying the staff weapon.
"Reporting as ordered," Teal'c said.
"Actually it's 'sir'," Jason corrected.
"Sir," Teal'c said correctly this time.
"Welcome aboard, son," Reyes said.
After that, Jason and Teal'c joined the rest of the team on the ramp.
"The Vulture drone reports that the conditions on the planet are good and life-supporting," Jake said.
"That's good to hear," Jason said.
"Indeed," Teal'c agreed.
"Well, time for new adventures and to bring balance to the galaxy," Korra said proudly.
"All right, let's move out," Jason said.
After that, the team stepped through the gate towards new adventures and a new life in the universe.
