It was pep rally day aka the championship football game against the Universal Woodpeckers. Like most pep rallies before the game, the entire student body was pumped and excited as they entered the gym. Ella and the rest of the cheerleaders performed a short routine that was later posted and reposted all over everyone's Snapchat and Instagram stories. And the football players, of course, were met with an abundant amount of applause and cheers as each one was called up to the front of the gym to receive flowers and take a photo. Ella couldn't help but smile a little when it was Henry, the Quarterback's turn.
"Come on out and support us tonight as we take home this win!" he boomed through the microphone. The crowd erupted into cheers.
In the hours leading up to the big game, the cheerleaders ate a quick dinner in the cafeteria with the football players. The football players teased and played around with each other while the cheerleaders on the other hand chatted quietly amongst themselves.
"You're coming to the after-party tonight, right?" Aurora asked in between munches.
"Party?" Ella questioned.
"Yeah! You know, the party at Henry's house? I heard his place has an indoor pool! It's going to be a-ma-zing!" Aurora sing-songed.
Ella shook her head. "No way my step-mom would let me go."
"Ugh," Aurora groaned, "I'm sure Drizella and Anastasia are going. And if they can go, can't you?" she asked.
"Maybe..." Ella said as she pondered for a moment. If they weren't home then there wouldn't be anyone to clean up after. And her stepmom was usually fast asleep by ten to get her 'beauty sleep'. "Sure, why not," Ella said after a while and Aurora grabbed hold of Ella's hands to briefly celebrate.
By the time six o'clock rolled around, the lights illuminated the football field and the outdoor benches were packed. Students wore different variations of the school colors, red and black, as they waved streamers and held up posters of their favorite players. The cheerleaders lined the side of the field, facing the crowd with arms behind their backs, ready to cheer.
As the night progressed the home team pulled ahead of the visitors with ease. It was a close game at first but after halftime, they were thirty-five to twenty-one and projected to win. The cheerleaders were able to catch glimpses of the game in between cheering. After a successful touchdown, the girls got up to perform another cheer.
"See that score? Now it's more, Score plus six, Score plus six
See our boys? Make some noise, They scored six, They scored six," the girls chanted.
To end the cheer the flyers were hoisted up into the air to form a large V. Arista, Rosetta, and Charlotte lifted Ella into the air and as she kicked her right leg up, suddenly her foot felt lighter.
In that instant, everything happened so fast. The crowd let out a large "Oooo" as if wincing and the coach blew his whistle. When Ella returned to the ground she looked down to find that one of her shoes had flown off! She turned around to face the game and all of the football players had huddled into a small circle. The huddle soon broke up and out emerged Henry, clutching his nose as he headed over to the bench.
Ella let out a gasp as she covered her mouth with both hands. "Did I do that?" she asked worriedly to Aurora. Aurora just nodded her head, continuing to watch the scene unfold while processing what had just happened.
"OMG was that your shoe?" Paulette asked, running up to Ella with the rest of the cheerleaders in tow. Henry had finally made it to the bench and a nurse was tending to him. One of his teammates who was following him had laid Ella's shoe next to Henry on the bench.
Ella eyed the shoe nervously. She needed the shoe back obviously but she was scared to go up to Henry. She wasn't sure why but after a while she swallowed her nervousness and walked over to the bench, hobbling on the foot that still had a shoe. She paused for a moment once she was a few feet away, staring at Henry's back which had the number nineteen in bright red and his last name underneath.
Suddenly, just as she was about to continue forwards, Henry looked behind him, staring straight at an embarrassed Ella. With her head down, she took a seat next to Henry who was holding a rag on his face.
"Gosh I am so-" Ella began.
Henry took the rag from his face to reveal dried blood stained underneath his nose, however, he was also smiling as he looked at Ella. "Don't worry about it, I'm fine," he reassured her.
But Ella was uneasy as she eyed the blood. "Are you sure?" she asked, "It's not broken is it?"
Henry started laughing and Ella just looked at him perplexed. Shouldn't he be wallowing in agony? "Here's your shoe," he said, handing her a slightly worn white sneaker.
Ella let out a weak laugh, "Thanks," she mumbled as she put the shoe back on, careful to tie it tightly enough so that another incident like this didn't happen again. "So you're okay to play then?" she asked.
"Yeah, I'm good to play," he responded with a grin.
"Great! I'd hate to think that I injured our Quarterback out of the game," Ella exclaimed with relief.
All of a sudden Coach Phil, the short, balding, middle-aged football coach came rushing towards Henry and Ella.
"Come on! We're starting back up," he said in a gruff voice. Henry promptly wiped his nose as he hopped off the bench. A whistle was blown and all the players began to head back onto the field.
Before Henry walked away he turned back towards Ella. Ella perked up, eager to listen to what he would say. "Maybe I'll see you later?" he said as if it were a question, "At my party?"
Ella nodded vigorously, too excited to put coherent words together to answer him. Ella almost fainted right then and there. He expected, no, wanted to see Ella at his party! Now she had to go, no matter what her stepmother would say. Henry gave her a small wave before jogging into a group huddle.
The night of the big game, Aladdin stood behind the football bleachers. He looked around nervously and rocked back and forth. Where were they? he thought. He checked his phone almost a dozen times before finally, two figures started running towards him.
"We got 'em!" one of them yelled. It was his best friend G, holding a bundle of clothes in his hand.
"Where were you guys?" Aladdin asked in a panicked voice.
"Calm down, calm down. You're lucky you have us you know." G handed him the football gear that he was carrying and Aladdin swiftly put the red and black uniform on.
"Catch," Florian said, tossing Aladdin a football jersey, "I got it from my older brother. Just don't let anyone see the back." The backs of the jerseys had the football player's names on them, and Aladdin was definitely not a football player.
"How do I look?" Aladdin asked the two guys, holding his arms open with his eyebrows raised, ready for criticism.
"Here." Florian shoved his football helmet into Aladdin's arms. "I'll just tell coach I misplaced mine." Florian then shook his head, slightly impressed. "You know you didn't have to tell her you were on the football team."
"I didn't! It just kinda...happened," Aladdin replied as he rubbed his arms. His mind briefly wandered as he thought about whether Jasmine was looking for him or not. He hoped that maybe she was wondering where he was...
"And that's why we don't stare at the cheerleaders during their practice," G scolded as he rested his arms on Aladdin's shoulders. "Now come on the game is gonna start."
Aladdin followed Florian to the football bench on the sideline while G took a seat in the bleachers directly behind them. Aladdin wore Florian's helmet to avoid Coach Phil chastising him. After all, he was only the water boy.
Football tryouts at the beginning of the year were not Aladdin's brightest moments. He had fumbled the ball, tripped over his own feet, and got run over by the other players more times than he could count. Coach Phil felt so bad he offered Aladdin the water boy's position (the manager position was already taken by Anastasia R. who apparently was an avid football fan). His role of course still meant that he attended every football practice. So technically he hadn't lied to Jasmine when he said he was heading back to the field for practice. It was her who had assumed he was on the team, and that wasn't his fault...right?
Throughout the game, Aladdin managed to fulfill his water duties wearing a reflective blanket over the uniform as to not cause suspicion. In between his water runs he scanned the cheer team for Jasmine, but every time he looked over, she was busy cheering. At this rate he was never going to get a chance to talk to her and then his friends securing him a uniform to look like he was on the team would be for nothing.
After halftime, there had been some debacle with a shoe causing the whole game to halt. Henry was taken to the bench and the cheerleaders had taken a little break given the whole situation. Once Henry got back out onto the field, the game and everything else resumed as normal. But from the corner of his eye, Aladdin saw someone walking towards him. When he looked up, he was ecstatic that it was Jasmine.
Aladdin probably looked like an idiot as he looked up at her with blank eyes and a wide child-like smile. He was quite literally at a loss for words as Jasmine stood in front of him. her long hair was tied up into a high ponytail that swayed when she walked. She held her cheer pom-poms behind her back and wore a tentative smile.
"Hey, there," she said, "haven't seen you all night."
Aladdin chuckled nervously and cleared his throat, trying to find the courage to speak. "Y-yeah. Well...I've been here...on this bench..."
"Don't get to play often?" she asked in a playful tone.
"I'm not that great," Aladdin admitted. "Besides, the seniors and juniors are the main players." Which was true, even Florian who was a pretty decent player rarely got to get out on the field.
Jasmine nodded in understanding as the two became silent for a moment. "Well," she finally said, "If I don't see you out on the field maybe I'll catch you at Henry's party later."
Aladdin's face lit up and his whole body became animated. "Yes! The party! You will be there and I will also... be there." Boy was he bad at this.
Jasmine chuckled, covering her mouth with one hand. "Okay, later then." And then she was off, waving at Aladdin with one pom-pom. Aladdin watched as she retreated with intense admiration when suddenly he felt a hard pat on his back.
"Way to go!" G exclaimed from the bleachers above him. Aladdin let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding and smiled back at G. "Looks like we're in business."
"Cheerleaders man..." Aladdin said with a sigh, still looking in Jasmine's direction.
"Tell me about it," Florian added. "Hey, I think I'm going to ask Snow out sometime, I could get her to bring Jasmine."
For a brief moment, Aladdin snapped out of his trance to thank his friend. "Dude, that'd be awesome."
"What about me?" G asked with a frown. Aladdin and Florian just looked at him as if to say 'are you serious?'. "Yeah, alright," he conceded from the silence.
"I need a ride to that party though G, I think Jasmine is seriously into me," Aladdin beamed.
"Al, all cheerleaders are into football players. You just gotta keep her thinking you're on the team."
Aladdin scrunched his face. "I am on the team." Now it was Florian and G's turn to look at him with an 'are you serious?' face. "Oh come on guys you heard what she said! She doesn't even care that I don't play. I could tell her the truth."
"That's because she doesn't know you just hand out water," G told him bluntly. Aladdin hung his head slightly, looking back over at Jasmine and the cheerleaders.
"And besides," Florian added, "if she finds out you lied to her," he made a gesture with his finger of a knife slitting his throat.
Aladdin figured they were probably right. He had started this thing and now he had to see it through. Although, he couldn't help but think about what she'd say about his home life. Aladdin could already picture the stack of bills on the kitchen table at his apartment, and the bike he used to ride the school. If she'd be disappointed that he's not a football player, she'd definitely be disappointed in the life that he lived.
"Yeah, you guys are right," Aladdin finally said with defeat.
"Of course we're right," G responded with his mouth full of M&Ms. When he found the time to buy some from the concessions, Aladdin wasn't sure.
"But could we take them out to a park for a picnic or something?" Aladdin suggested. His friends were aware of his financial situation, but even still it wasn't like Aladdin could just outright say "can we go on a cheap date".
"Hey, that's a good idea. Girls like nature and that type of stuff," Florian said with a nod.
Aladdin glanced at Jasmine once more as she and the other girls started to cheer again. Her hair bouncing with each move, and for a split second, Aladdin thought that she had smiled at him.
Usually, football games would have Anna's undivided attention. She'd be immersed in the game, booing and cheering along with the rest of the crowd, jumping up and down when the team scored a touchdown. But this time she was on a mission. She had to find the perfect guy who would be willing to ask Elsa to Prom. And what better prospects than the players on the football team.
It sounded a bit shallow as once Anna thought about it, but the night was young and Anna only had a couple of weeks before Elsa would leave. Throughout the game, she studied the players as if she had a test on them tomorrow. Anna analyzed their skills, their physique, trying to figure out of all of them, who would be best suited for her sister. Anna's best friends, Rapunzel and Ariel, were unknowingly a big help. They weren't into football like Anna was so most of their commentary was about the players anyway.
By halftime, Anna was exhausted. Not to mention, football players probably weren't even Elsa's type. What was she thinking? At one point the game was stopped due to an injury and Anna decided to take a snack break. She gestured for Rapunzel to pass the bag of popcorn and she shamelessly began to devour it.
All of the football players had begun to take off their helmets and go over to the bench to console their teammate. Anna squinted at the players below, trying to get one last good look at their faces when suddenly, Anna caught a glimpse of (who she thought to be) the cutest guy in the entire world. The boy ran his fingers through his shiny auburn hair and briefly looked up at the crowd with a dazzling smile.
Anna nudged Ariel's shoulder aggressively to get her attention. "Ariel! Ariel! Ariel!" she repeated. Ariel, who was busy looking at her phone finally looked up at Anna.
"What?" she asked.
Anna pointed intensely at the boy on the field. "Who's that? Number eighty-seven! What's his name?" she asked eagerly.
"Sideburns?" Ariel asked with a hint of uncertainty.
Anna groaned. "Just look him up, please?" she pleaded.
"Umm, okay give me a second," Ariel told her, trying to calm her down as she looked up the team members on MaxPreps.
"Who are we looking at?" Rapunzel inquired, feeling left out of the conversation. Anna pointed once again at the boy who she had yet to take her eyes off of. "Ooooo," Rapunzel cooed.
"That is Hans Westergaard," Ariel announced matter-of-factly, "a senior."
"A senior?" Anna repeated in disbelief. She was silly to think that she even had a chance with a football player but there was no way a senior would even look her way. Anna let out a sigh. It was probably for the best. But she spent the rest of the game following Hans' movements in admiration.
When the game finally ended, the Disney Mice celebrated a monumental championship win against their long-time rivals. Most of the student body began to leave to get ready for Henry's big after-party as it was the talk of the town. Anna, Ariel, and Rapunzel were going to head over to Anna's house to change clothes and then ride to the party together in Anna's silver Audi.
The three girls followed the crowd to the parking lot when Anna suddenly stopped in her tracks. She mentally cursed when she realized that she had put her keys in her locker as not to lose them in the bleachers (which had happened before). "Ugh, I'll be right back!" she told Ariel and Rapunzel before sprinting into the main building.
Luckily, after big games, the doors weren't locked. Otherwise, Anna would've been out of luck. She jogged through the empty hallway to her locker, quickly putting in her combination before retrieving her keys. She slammed the locker door shut and started to run back towards the exit. Not paying attention to where she was going, Anna full-on collided with another figure in the hallway. The other person had let out a loud grunt as Anna's keys spiraled out of her hand and she landed on the hallway tile floor with a thud.
"Hey!" Anna exclaimed, reaching around the floor for her keys. "Why don't you watch where you're..." As Anna looked up she found herself inches away from Hans Westergaard.
"Oh, my bad. Are you hurt?" Hans asked. His voice was sincere and his dreamy green eyes were piercing right into hers.
Anna quickly gathered her composure. "I mean I, uh, yes I'm okay."
"Are you sure?" he asked with a chuckle, extending his hand towards Anna to pull her up.
Anna took hold of his hand and promptly dusted herself off. "Yeah I uh, just wasn't watching where I was going I guess." Hans hadn't broken eye contact with Anna yet, putting butterflies in Anna's stomach. "But I'm fine now."
"Thank goodness," he said responded coyly. Anna's stomach did a backflip. "I'm Hans," he stated.
"Yes I-I know," Anna muttered in trance, "You're gorgeous." Anna almost smacked herself at that moment. "I mean, I'm Anna!" she quickly corrected. Being this close to him Anna could see the light dusting of freckles littered across his nose. It was cute.
"Well Anna, find me at the party later, okay?" he told her in an assertive yet polite manner. He waved at her before turning the corner, leaving Anna standing in the middle of the hallway.
What had just happened?
Anna relayed the story to her best friends as she got ready for the party at her house.
"No wonder you took so long," Ariel had said.
"What are the odds?" Rapunzel had commented.
Eager to get to the party and meet Hans, Anna had rushed the girls into her car to drive to Henry's house. The place was of course, packed. Cars lined the narrow street as students were walking in and out of the ginormous mansion. The house stood alone in a secluded and spaced-out neighborhood, perfect for a party.
Upon entering, Anna and her friends went over to the kitchen where snacks and drinks were being served. Anna looked around in the sea of guests, straining to find Hans. Just when Anna was about to give up someone tapped her from behind. "Hey you," the voice said.
Anna whipped around and was elated to find that it was Hans once again. He held two cups in his hand and offered one to Anna who gladly took it from his grasp.
"Wanna go somewhere private?" he whispered into Anna's ear. It sent shivers up her spine and she eagerly nodded. Hans took a hold of Anna's free hand and guided her through the crowd, leaving Ariel and Rapunzel who were both impressed and confused.
As Hans went deeper and deeper into the house, the noise from the party slowly subsided. They stopped in front of a set of double doors which Hans held open for Anna. She stepped through to find that they had arrived at a balcony, overlooking the quiet roads leading up to the house.
"This is...amazing," Anna breathed. "Thanks for bringing me here."
Hans smiled and took a sip from his cup before leaning against the rails of the balcony. "So Anna. We must not have had classes together since I'm sure I'd remember meeting someone like you."
Anna blushed profusely and turned to face away from Hans. This had to be a dream. Or maybe there was a little something in his cup.
The two began talking and continued throughout most of the night. Anna wasn't sure whether she was more surprised at the fact that he'd rather spend his time with her rather than at the party, or the fact that they had a lot in common. Before she knew it, she was talking about her sister and how distant she was becoming while Hans listened intently. It was alarmingly easy to talk to him as if they had known each other forever.
"You know," Hans began as he took Anna's hands into his, "this is going to sound crazy but...you're different from a lot of the other girls. I really like you."
Anna's heart fluttered at Hans's declaration. It wasn't like he was asking her to marry him or anything but it still gave her feelings she had never felt for anyone before. There was no way Anna would've pictured her night going like this.
"And I really like you," she replied.
Aurora's forehead was glistening with sweat when the final buzzer rang, signifying the end of the football game. But as the beads of sweat rolled down her face, she still wore a bright, preppy smile. Cheerleading was her favorite thing to do after all, which is what earned her the title of cheer captain.
Aurora followed students' mass exodus to the parking lot when the game was finished, and she and Ella hopped into Ella's car. She had successfully convinced Ella to go to Henry's after-party celebration. Although, Ella didn't need much convincing after she had a one-on-one chat with him on the sidelines that evening. They headed to Charlotte's house where most of the cheerleaders were getting ready and pregaming. Charlotte's dad wasn't out of town, but he never minded when the cheer squad came over.
Drinks and makeup brushes were being passed around in Charlotte's basement as if it were a game of hot potato. Doja Cat was blaring from Charlotte's ginormous stereo speakers as the cheerleaders swapped their cheer gear for party attire and took turns looking at themselves in mirrors.
Ella eyed Aurora carefully as she took another shot with the Bimbette triplets. "Hey, slow down," she warned her friend.
Aurora took her advice with a grain of salt as she squirted lime juice into her mouth. "I'm tryna have some fun tonight!" she exclaimed to Ella.
Aurora's parents weren't strict per se, but Aurora definitely put on a goody-two-shoes front around them. She maintained an A average while doing competitive as well as high school cheer. In her parent's eyes, she was too busy and too refined for high school antics such as parties. They thought that they didn't have to worry about her when in reality Aurora was the life of the party.
Within half an hour the girls were ready, and they sped off to Henry's house in their respective cars.
Henry's parents were out of town so often everyone practically had his address memorized. He would always be the one to throw parties after football games, plus he was the Quarterback.
Aurora burst through the front door with a loud party cry while Ella followed closely behind her, not really wanting to be at the party but desperately searching for Henry's face.
Without hesitation, Aurora made her way to the kitchen counter where an assortment of drinks was laid out. Aurora grabbed a red solo cup and chugged it as she chatted with some of the football players who invited her to play a game of beer pong. Aurora readily accepted the challenge, beckoning for her best friend to follow and let loose.
Aurora's poor aim was no match for Kenai and she gulped down a substantial amount of drinks in the process of losing. Ella, who was sat on a sofa nearby, finally found Henry and they were engaging in what seemed like a riveting conversation. She was laughing and giggling and Aurora was happy for her.
The night progressed and a tipsy Aurora was dancing her butt off in the middle of the living room with a bunch of other Disney High students, letting her hair sway and her hips move with the music. Her eyes were closed and she danced as if no one was watching. When she opened her eyes the strobing LED lights started to make her head pound and before she knew it, everything went black.
For a brief moment when Aurora's eyelids managed to lift slightly, she could make out bodies hovering over her, whispering and chattering.
"Aurora!" she heard Ella yell. But then she couldn't hear anything and everything had turned black once again.
What seemed like a lifetime later, Aurora awoke in a plush bed. Her hair was swept up into a ponytail and a ceiling fan was blowing cool air into her face. Aurora propped herself up weakly and she looked around she found herself in an ornate and tidy bedroom. It was silent and Aurora couldn't hear any more music playing. What had happened?
The bedroom door slowly creaked open and Aurora whipped her head to see Phillip, one of the football players, walk in.
"Hey!" he said softly as he entered the room, "You're awake!"
Aurora simply nodded. Her throat was parched and she felt a headache coming on as her head started to throb.
"W-What happened," she managed to say, blinking several times to make sure this wasn't a dream or an elaborate prank.
Phillip who held a cup of water gently placed it into Aurora's hand and sat on the edge of the bed. "You fainted," he told her quite bluntly. "Probably alcohol poisoning."
Aurora nearly choked her water. "Alcohol poisoning?" she repeated incredulously.
"Yeah, your friend Ella said you had been drinking a lot and..."
But Aurora had tuned out of whatever Phillip was saying. Her headache was creeping back fast and suddenly she was feeling a bit sick. Aurora leaped out of the bed to bust through a door that would lead to what she hoped would be a bathroom.
Luckily, it was, and Aurora crunched over the toilet seat, hurling her guts out. When Aurora finally stopped puking enough to wipe her mouth, she peeked behind her to see Phillip standing in the doorway. Ugh, this was so embarrassing! she thought. She had definitely reached a low point. To Aurora's surprise, Phillip didn't say anything and just grabbed her arm to help her up. He slowly led her back to the bed and Aurora lowered her head onto the pillow.
"Ella had to leave, but I asked Henry if you could stay here. He said he didn't mind." Phillip was looking at Aurora with a soft smile. She was sure she looked hideous and sickly and yet, he looked at her like she was the most beautiful girl in the world.
"How long was I out?" Aurora could hardly remember a thing after that beer pong match, but trying to remember made her head hurt even more.
"A couple of hours," he said with a shrug. "You collapsed around one."
"What time is it now?" she asked weakly.
Phillip looked over at a clock that hung on the wall. "Almost four," he answered.
"Oh gosh, you should get home too. Please, I'm fine, really," Aurora insisted. She couldn't believe he had stayed this long taking care of her.
Phillip chuckled as he helped Aurora got under the covers. "I'm sleeping down the hall," he told her, pulling the covers up to her chin as if she were a child. He gently tucked her in before getting up to turn off the light. "Night," he whispered, just audibly enough for Aurora to hear. And with that, she was out like a light.
Hercules was having the time of his life at Henry's after-party, and he didn't even need to have a drink to do it. Hercules wasn't much of a dancer but he wasn't opposed to a good ole fashioned game of ping pong, or diving into the indoor pool fully clothed. Plus, it was nice that students would congratulate him (along with his other teammates) on the championship win.
Being a football player definitely had its perks. Freshman-year Hercules wouldn't have even gotten on the team as he used to be scrawny and clumsy, a deadly combination. Luckily, the summer before junior year Hercules had a massive growth spurt. He was hardly recognizable standing five inches taller than the previous year and weighing a lot more in muscle mass as he had also spent almost the entire summer in the gym. What Hercules lacked in popularity he quickly gained in no time.
Hercules excused himself from a group of girls dancing around him to a Drake song to get some punch. As Hercules walked upstairs from the basement, there was a large crowd in the hallway blocking his way. Hercules tried to look over the crowd to see what was happening, to no avail. He was tall, but not tall enough to see the cause of the blockade. However, being of his stature he was able to easily move through the herd of students who were probably trying to avoid getting shoved by him.
Once he made it to the front he saw a girl yelling at Adonis, one of his teammates. The rest of the football players were trying to pull him away from the confrontation as he had his back against the wall and the girl was pointing her long and perfectly manicured fingers in his face while cursing.
"Fuck you, Adonis!" was the last thing Hercules heard before the girl threw her drink on him, drenching his hair and his clothes.
Before he knew it, Hercules had stepped in between the two of them, trying to pry the girl who was kicking and swinging, away from his teammate. There was no doubt in Hercules' mind that Adonis was probably in the wrong, but he just wanted to stop the altercation from escalating further.
"Get off of me!" the girl shouted, forcefully shoving Hercules away from her. She looked him up and down with a look of disgust. "What are you some type of fucking Wonder Boy?" she asked. Hercules stood frozen, not knowing what to say. He thought he was helping. The girl stormed off leaving the rest of the party staring at Hercules in silence.
Suddenly, Hercules felt his legs move in the direction of the girl following. "Hey, wait!" he yelled, but the girl had turned the corner. He rushed after her just as she slammed a door shut in his face.
Hercules knocked on the door tentatively. "What?" he could hear the girl yell from the other side. He gulped as he slowly turned the knob to open the door. Surprisingly though, the girl didn't protest and she let Hercules enter into what turned out to be a bathroom.
Hercules slowly closed the door behind him before turning around to face the girl. She sat on the toilet lid rubbing mascara off of her face. "What?" she asked again, this time a little bit softer.
"I-I just wanted to make sure you're okay," Hercules stuttered.
"Yeah, everything's just peachy!" the girl replied in a sarcastic tone. She briefly looked up at Hercules and rolled her eyes with a scoff.
Hercules rubbed the back of his neck. "Uh, so what happened back there with..."
"Adonis? Ugh, you know how these football guys are. They think "No" means "Yes" and "Get lost" means "Take me, I'm yours."," she explained. Hercules was silent considering he was a 'football' guy himself. Whatever that meant.
"I'm Megara," she blurted, "My friends call me Meg...at least they would if I had any friends."
Megara...the name sounded a bit familiar. The gears in his head started turning as he distinctly recalled Adonis referring to Megara as his girlfriend during practice. Nothing like a lovers quarrel he figured.
"So, did they give you a name along with all those bulging biceps?" Meg asked, breaking the silence.
How could she not have any friends? he thought. She was funny and stunning and...Hercules got lost in his train of thought before realizing she had asked him a question. "Uh, uhhh, I'm, um, uh, uh..."
"Are you always this articulate?" she joked. Hercules's nervousness slightly dissipated as he noticed that she was warming up to him.
"Hercules. My... my name is Hercules," he stated, puffing up his chest a bit. He then quickly deflating as he figured he looked pretty stupid.
Meg looked him up and down with a smirk. "Herc... huh. I think I prefer Wonder Boy." She heaved a sigh and stood up to look at herself in the mirror.
"Soo... Adonis...he's your boyfriend?" Hercules finally asked. Megara froze in front of the mirror for a moment before shaking her head vigorously.
"Not anymore he's not," she mumbled after she had successfully tucked all of her fly-aways back into her high ponytail. When she was done she ushered Hercules to the side with her hand to signal for him to move out of the doorway.
"A-Are you sure you're okay?" Hercules asked, stopping her before she could head back out to the party.
Meg looked at him and rolled her eyes playfully. "I'm a tough girl," she asserted, "I tie my own shoelaces and everything." She flipped her hair over her shoulder and swiftly exited the bathroom.
Hercules soon followed, bumping right into Adonis. It seemed like he was waiting for him outside although he apparently had let Meg pass. He held his hand against Hercules' chest to stop him.
"What'd she say in there?" he asked.
Hercules looked him up and down, a bit confused but finally responded with, "Nothing, nothing. She was pretty cold," Hercules told him.
Adonis heaved a sigh and nodded in accordance. "Watch out for her Herc. She's crazy. I should've known but..." Adonis just stopped and shook his head. "Just...you might want to stay away from her is all."
And with that Adonis walked away, opposite the direction from Meg. Hercules didn't understand why Adonis had said all that to him but for some reason, he had the urge to tell Meg about it. He peered down the hall to where Meg sat on a couch, sulking in her anger with her legs crossed. Hercules didn't want to make her night even worse so he just headed back downstairs to the basement to try to enjoy the rest of his night.
