After dinner, Severus requested to speak with Minerva in her office
"What do you know about Miss Lee other than what is on her resume?"
"She is quite an accomplished witch despite her age. I spoke to the headmaster at Ilvermorny and he gave a glowing recommendation. She was in all advanced classes and worked extra hours on even more advanced magic with her teachers. Her knowledge in potions is astonishing, which I'm sure you know. I can't imagine you didn't test her"
"Of course"
"She also exels in Herbology, Charms, and Transfiguration. She also was the top dueler at Ilvermorny...by 5th year"
"Yes I saw the transcripts"
"Animagus at 4th year. You know how difficult that is. She brewed the potion on her own."
"What do you know of her upbringing?"
"I didn't ask. It isn't relevant. She is staying. I know you don't want an assistant, but the decision is not yours. She's a lovely girl and I hope her infectious personality brings some joy to the school this year. It's going to be difficult for everyone."
"Understood" Snape stood to leave
"Severus. If you need anyone to talk to..."
He gave a quick nod and left.
Why does everyone assume I want to talk. Have I ever been one to talk about anything personal?
There's something about Miss Lee... I can't seem to access her memories. Only her current thoughts, which are horrendously loud. As much as I do t want to do any extra work, maybe Occlumency lessons are in order...if only for my own sanity.
In his chambers, Severus drained a few glasses of whiskey and a vial of Potion for Dreamless Sleep. The next few weeks would be busy repairing the school and preparing lesson plans. The incoming 6th years hadn't taken their OWLS last year so they would need to sit for those in October. Giving them 1 month to prepare. Maybe having an assistant wouldn't be so bad, if nothing else just to handle the youngest students.
