Gally had been in the city for a total of a few months now and he seemed to be adjusting better than expected. Elise gave him the clear to leave the day after the Newt reveal, which wasn't too long ago, feeling confident that they no longer needed to monitor the rest of his healing after his stitches were removed. He expressed his gratitude to her and offered his help anytime it was needed. He was even given his own room finally as well and it wasn't too far from Mel's which he was also thankful for. Having someone he knew better than most close by gave him a sense of calm. They met up regularly for meals, mostly due to the fact that he still didn't know anyone else. But slowly he was getting to know others and learn the names of those he saw on a daily basis.

He had started to talk more with the resistance crew as well and the occasional hangout, much to Mel's dislike but knew he was free to make his own choices. He talked with them frequently and asked questions about what they did. Part of Mel seemed curious as well since in all the years she'd been around she didn't know too much of their operations or even care to ask. A large part of that being they kept quiet as well, as to not draw much attention from WCKD and ruin their chances of any payback.

Mel had just come out of the market with some lunch, on her way to see Gally at their usual spot and to talk more about her brother, when shouting and screaming broke out from the far side of the city. She quickly set her plate down before running towards that direction to see what was happening, her eyes squinting a bit to help see from the distance. Then she heard it. The screeching and crying of cranks. It took herself a moment to come to realization and process what was happening before her, but as the moment came it fled and she was in full alert mode.

"Cranks! Everyone defend yourselves take cover!" She cried out to everyone else who wasn't sure what was happening, hoping her warning would keep anyone else from harm.

Normally a random Crank or two wasn't as bad as others would think. The resistance had the amount of weapons to keep them safe and dispose of the infected. But this time became different as there were more than just a few. It seemed like a small horde. Seeing the group heading their way quickly, she immediately turned the other way and started to run. Screaming and panicking filling the air. Some heading for their designated hideout, while the rest all split up and ran off in different directions hoping not to get caught. They were filling the city now and she knew there'd be those who might not get lucky.

"Melinda!" A voice called out and she turned to see Gally over by one of the buildings waving her over. She turned and ran as fast as she could over to him. She was only a few feet away before she was slammed to the ground. Dirt was kicked up around her causing her to inhale it and cough, trying to focus on what was happening. Looking ahead of her she saw what knocked her down. A crank crawling right towards her. She shuffled backward trying to gain her footing, the fear of being grabbed by one of them becoming a reality and causing her to not think straight. She let out a cry as it grabbed her by her shoe and climbed up further. She kicked at it as hard as she could but it held on tight.

Gally seemed to watch it all happen in slow motion as she was shoved down and the crank trying to get at her. He looked around for any way to help before seeing a gun lying nearby. The memory of Chuck flashed into his head and he froze for a moment. He couldn't hesitate and told himself he'd be saving a life this time, not taking it. Shaking his head he picked it up, pointed at the enemy, and taking a nervous breath pulled the trigger. Shots rang out and he watched in awe as the crank fell over dead. He couldn't believe he killed one, and didn't hurt Mel in the process.

Mel waited for the inevitable before feeling the weight fall off of her. Looking up she saw the gun in Gally's trembling hands and then at the dead crank lying beside her. She quickly got up and ran over to him as he put the gun down, grabbing and holding onto his arm for support as she continued to try and process what was happening. He held onto her just as tight and made sure it was clear before they managed to help a few others over and they went inside until the gunmen were able to finish the last of them off.

They were relieved it didn't take too long before hearing one of them shout "All clear!"

Slowly they all filtered back outside to see the damage. Thankfully the market didn't take any losses and a majority of the people were able to block the entryway to keep it safe. Looking back towards where all the chaos originally started there were some casualties. Mel immediately started to tie up her hair knowing Elise was going to need help with anyone who got hurt.

"They're going to need me. Should get going." She told him before running off, Gally was quick to follow behind her though wanting to help in any way.

"I'll go too. I might not be a medjack but I can at least help them clean up any messes." He offered. She furrowed her brows in confusion when he used the word 'medjack' but brushed it off remembering his explanation on some of the weird words and phrases they used when he was inside the maze.

It didn't take long for them to reach the med building and Mel sprang into action looking over anyone who hadn't gone inside yet and examined how bad they might be. She was happy that a majority of them were only scrapes and minor injuries. But there were also some who weren't that lucky. They covered the few who didn't survive out of respect, waiting for them to be taken away.

Looking over she caught sight of Gally helping clear some debris away and start a pile of all the dead cranks. She was grateful for him being here and saving her, and made a mental note to formally thank him later before bringing her attention back and finishing up with the last few patients. As she took off inside, it was Gally's turn to look over at her. To say he was concerned not that long ago was an understatement. Watching Mel go down and see her almost hurt scared him a bit. He wasn't sure yet why he felt the way he did, and wanted to feel that it was because of how much she helped him since being brought to the city. But now after what he just experienced he knew there was more to it.

And he hated it. He didn't like having such foreign feelings. Although he was able to remember some of his past, he was still always on his own or occasionally with some of the other boys while they were being held in one of WCKD's facilities before the maze and spending three years in the glade. He wasn't used to any of it. But he knew he couldn't be the same old Gally anymore, that person had died after leaving the glade and knew he needed to do better now.

But he wasn't ready for that big a change yet. He wanted time to figure it out for himself. So seeing Lawrence come out and help survey the area, he got an idea. Whether it was a good one or not he wasn't sure, but he would find out eventually. Taking a breath of confidence he walked over to him and spoke right away.

"I want to join you." Was all he said staring at the man who just seemed to smile back at him. After a moment of curiosity getting to him, Lawrence crossed his arms amused and indulged the boy.

"I see. And why would that be? Besides the information you already gave us about WCKD."

"Well you don't seem like the type of person to say no to expanding your men. And I've got some years of being imprisoned inside a giant maze to make up for." He explained, sighing when Lawrence still didn't seem convinced.

"Look, I've never had much experience with being part of some resistance movement. But I know that when the time comes to stick it to them, your going to need all the help you can get. They deserve everything that comes to them and I want to help be a part of that."

Gally was now glaring at the man, a little too harshly he might add, and softened his features a bit as he took a step back, his small rant finished. Lawrence was still smiling as he stepped forward and put a hand to his shoulder giving it a small and confident squeeze.

"I like you Gally. We'll see what we can do with you." With that he walked off to finish his own business leaving Gally there with a grin. It made him feel good to be a part of something again and start pulling his own weight.

Looking off at the rest of the city and everyone getting back to their normal routines, he felt a sort of peace he hadn't had in a long time. And it made him happy.

"Home sweet home.." He whispered as he started walking back towards the front to continue helping with any clean up that needed to be done.
