Marinette and Jason were sitting side by side on the couch in Marinette's living room. They were waiting together for the three pregnancy tests on the coffee table to give a result.
Marinette wanted to have a baby now that her financial and personal situation had stabilized. However, she didn't have a boyfriend and had no intention of having one. She turned to Jason for help with her baby plans. Marinette had no desire to go through a medical process to have her baby.
Jason and Marinette had a special bond. They weren't in a relationship (and had no intention of getting one), but they did share intimate moments on a regular basis. People called them "friends with benefits". Maybe it was true. And frankly, neither of them cared. Their special friendship suited them just fine.
Jason had no desire to be a parent, but he had no problem helping a friend. So what if that friend needed a donor? He could give of himself.
The question they were often asked was, "How did you get to this point? ".
The answer was both simple and complex.
The first time they met, Jason was completely drunk. It was the anniversary of the day he died. He had gone off to drown his sorrows in alcohol. The next day he woke up with this girl next to him and in a room he didn't know at all. It took him a few minutes to remember what had happened the day before (he was not the type to forget because of alcohol).
This girl was also completely drunk in the bar he was in, and the two of them had started flirting. One thing led to another and he went to the girl's house and… well.
When he woke up, he found that the girl from the night before was actually super cute and that at least he had spent the night in good company. The girl who was called Marinette seemed to be just as tired as him. She was also just as lucid because she remembered perfectly what they had done the day before.
Despite this strange situation, Jason had lunch with Marinette and the two parted on good terms. They both agreed that the night was just entertainment, nothing more.
Life did have a sense of humor. Less than a week later, Jason met Marinette again. She was Stephanie's roommate. The blonde had brought her new friend back to Cass so they could get to know each other. Jason had ended up there by chance, as Tim had asked him (to be understood here as "harassing") to give Stephanie a document about a case. He didn't recognize the apartment right away. It wasn't until he was inside that he realized he knew the place and came face to face with Marinette.
The two pretended they didn't know each other. It was an awkward situation for both of them.
Then Jason discovered that Marinette had recently been hired at the bookstore where he regularly visited. He was a regular and knew the owner well. He almost had a heart attack when he saw Marinette at the cash register. The young woman seemed just as shocked as he was. Once the surprise was over, they both ended up laughing at the bizarre situation in which they found themselves.
Marinette explained to him that Steph and she were childhood friends. She had just come out of a toxic relationship, and Steph was helping her start over. When she went to the bar, it was because her ex had contacted her again. She just wanted to forget everything for a while.
"You could say that you have…greatly helped me…to forget I mean. "
"Hmm…believe it or not you helped me too. "
Jason and Marinette got along well. He wasn't interested in a romantic relationship and neither was she. Their relationship was strictly friendly. Then one night, Jason got seriously depressed. Lately, he was always feeling bad and therefore took out all his frustration on the people around him. So he had been arguing with almost everyone. To calm his nerves, he would go to the bookstore. Reading was like therapy. Books were a world of their own where he could escape a little. Where imagination took precedence over reality.
"Felix, get off my back! I already told you I'm not coming back! "
" Mari…Honey, I'm so sorry darling. Come back home…"
"No! I will never come back! "
" Mari, what are you going to do without me? You need me, honey. No one will want you but me. I am the only one who accepts you as you are. "
" … "
"I've always taken care of you, right? I've given you everything you could ever want, I've pampered you. After all I've done for you, you want to leave me? When I'm the one who created you?"
"Felix… You're such a jerk that it's magical. "
"What?!"
"You took care of me? You've got to be kidding me! You used me to expand your business! You stole my designs, my creations all to make a name for yourself! YOU need me and not the other way around! Your sales have already started to decrease, right? The last fashion show you created was a complete fiasco… Without my designs, my creations, my talent, you are nothing!"
"You dirty little b*tch! "
Jason stopped the guy before he could touch Marinette. He left in a huff while insulting Marinette.
"You'll come crawling back to me! No one will ever hire you, you're OVER as a fashion designer, you hear me? OVER! "
Marinette was trembling. Jason took her home. They found themselves alone in the apartment, in silence. Jason understood better why Marinette had left. He couldn't help but compare the situation she was in with that of his own mother when he was a child. Willis, too, used to put his mother down all the time.
Marinette grabbed the tip of his jacket. She looked at him for a moment. He could see some distress there.
"Jason… Can… you…"
He knew exactly what she was asking.
"I just… want to… forget… about it…"
He really understood her. He too would love to forget his problems and all the sh*t he was in every day. Jason sat back down beside her, brought his face to hers and placed a kiss on it. She kissed back and then took off his jacket, he took off her top.
This was the event that marked their "strange" relationship.
They weren't trying to be discreet. In fact, Jason didn't care what others thought about his relationship with Marinette. They were comforting each other.
They had been friends for a good ten years now. Marinette knew about his activities as Red Hood. She also knew about the rest of the Bat-family. She didn't mind. She wasn't part of their vigilante world and that didn't stop her from getting along with the others. Damian didn't like her at all, considering her a wh*re -and he was unfortunately far from being the only one-. All this because Marinette had previously been in a relationship with Dick, Roy and even Wally and for some people a woman who shares her bed with a man without wanting to be in a romantic relationship was inevitably a wh*re…
If Marinette had other relationships, why did she choose Jason?
Simply because Jason would be the only one who wouldn't intrude between her and the child. Marinette wanted the child, not the father that came with it.
"Oh my God! It's positive! Look, it' s positive! "
"Cool. Congrats. "
She smiled at him and placed a kiss on his cheek.
"Thanks Jay. "
