I hope people aren't getting bored. I love feedback so please drop a review if you want too! This chapter is probably on the boring side, but honestly the fact that I'm writing a chapter in advance because I just want to write these complex familial bonds.
Chapter 5: Return to Forks
The trip back to Forks was quiet. Alice explained to her a couple of things like the fact that Edward decided to go leave Bella in the forest, because he wanted her soul 'intact'. It was mainly boring stuff, but at least it was better than spending the flights in silence that she had planned.
After those useful tidbits, Maia ignored her. She wasn't going to make friends with her cousin's friends especially the way they had treated her. And besides, she was just a visitor in Forks-only for a week and now that was almost up. Damn her stupid cousin and her stupid involvement, and her precious decision in going to Italy at the last second. Of course, she did find that she had three mates-the three rulers of the vampires, but that was kind of beside the point.
Maia kinda wished that spring break was longer, because she wanted to spend more time in the rainy, cloudy town of Forks and spend time with her Uncle. She wasn't ready to go back to the whacky weather that belonged to Colorado, to go back to her everyday, normal life.
Finally on the last layover flight from Atlanta to Seattle, she finally caught some shut eye-using her windbreaker as a blanket and something for comfort. It helped ease her nervousness, and made her feel like she was fine especially since her jacket represented how much the symbol meant to her. She slept fine throughout most of the way until she was woken up by the announcement that they were landing soon and people should be in their seats, with the seat belts buckled.
Maia let out a big yawn and stretched her arms from the cramp conditions. Bella, who had been sitting right beside, was leaning on Edward with her brown eyes having bags underneath them, but she was awake. She kinda felt sorry for her cousin, but she at least deserved to have some sleep and sleeping was pretty much the only way to kill time on an airplane.
The sun was already starting to rise over the gray clouds over Seattle. She watched it briefly before Edward closed the blind on the windowing, casting their area in darkness, but she understood why. She fiddled with fingers for a little bit before she resorted to just tracing the small wolf and her school's band on it.
She did that for a little bit while the plane lowered its altitude quite a bit until it was close enough to land. The wheels touched the tarmac causing a small bounce in the plane and the plane rushed on the runway to slow its speed. It wasn't until the 'seatbelt' signal came on, and the plane stopped at its gate where people started grabbing their luggage and heading out.
It was going to be a bit as it was clear that Alice, Edward and Bella were in no particular hurry, despite Bella looking like she was about to collapse by exhaustion. Maia unbuckled her seatbelt, grabbed her carry-on and her jacket. Luckily, she had enough time to put it down and put the hood over her head before they decided to get off the plane.
She stood up from her seat, feeling the stiffness in her legs and the stiffness in her knee. She stretched her knee out, feeling the satisfying pop that made her walk easily.
She followed behind them, smiling as the flight attendants said goodbye to the passengers. It was only a couple of minutes before they met a few new people-by the look of things, these were also the Cullens. Maia noticed a tall guy-probably six foot three inches, with blonde hair and same shade of bronze colored eyes. He was also extremely pale along with dark circles under his eyes. Alice approached him with a smile on her lips and just stood there together. Weird.
Edward and Bella walked towards two people-one with also blonde hair, bronze eyes and pale skin. The other had caramel colored hair, she was extremely beautiful. She also had matching eyes just like the rest. The woman went to embrace Bella in a hug that looked extremely awkward from the way Edward was still holding onto her.
"Who's this?" The woman asked, looking at Maia with curiosity.
"I'm Maia, Bella's cousin… I helped save their asses back in Italy," She replied in the nicest way possible.
"Thank you for saying them," The woman said. It'd be nice if she had those 'thank yous' from the others for saving their lives or whatnot, or they were probably too busy healing their bruised egos especially Bella since she wasn't an expectation to the rules or whatnot.
…
Alice sped through Seattle traffic with Jasper in the shotgun, with Maia looking at the window with Bella leaning on Edward's chest as she finally slept peacefully. Apparently, the car ride was enough to make her fall asleep, but couldn't even do that on the flights here.
Apparently with Alice's speedy driving, they managed to cut the return trip in half to a little over an hour until they reached Forks. She watched the scenery go by as she was mainly thinking about the three kings and how special they made her feel. It was something truly different, she wasn't used to being special.
Back home, she was the third wheel. Kya was really occupied with Greg, and when she was contacting him-she didn't pay much attention. Chris had his own problems to sort out, leaving her essentially alone. Her parents had problems with her, to put it nicely. And even now, she was also the last person. Bella had her precious Edward back in her life again, but the self-absorbedness and her special attitude made Maia's eye twitch a little bit.
Maia did notice some signs in their relationship that something wasn't quite right. She had experience in some relationships, and the way that Edward pulled on Bella constantly just wasn't right. It just seemed on the borderline of toxic, if not abusive. It's funny how she could comment on other people's relationships but she can't comment about how unhealthy her parents were to her.
Eventually, Alice finally got to Charlie's house. Maia rushed out of the car, grabbing her bag and not saying anything to them. She spotted Charlie running out of the house-worried painted all over his face. His brown eyes looked at her with relief, but the car door opened with Edward carrying Bella, still exhausted with her eyes closed.
"Bella!" Charlie shouted. "I can't believe you have the nerve to show your face here."
"Stop it, Dad," Bella groaned.
"What's wrong with her?" Charlie demanded.
"She's just very tired, Charlie," Edward assured him quietly. "Please let her rest."
"Don't tell me what to do!" Charlie yelled. "Give her to me. Get your hands off her!"
Maia ignored the drama and headed inside the house. The first thing she did was take off her shoes and it felt nice. She dropped her bag on the couch, and headed into the kitchen to grab a glass of water, and chugged it until the glass was halfway empty. Charlie walked in the front door, his brown eyes looking exhausted.
He approached Maia as soon as he saw her, and she knew-if Charlie wasn't going to kill her, her mom certainly would.
"What the hell were you thinking? Going off with Bella?! I had to resort to calling Elizabeth because of your disappearing act! You're not even eighteen yet and right now, I'm your guardian until the time you leave Forks!" Charlie yelled, making sure to keep his voice low seeing how Bella was asleep upstairs.
Maia winced at the mention of her mother's name. She sighed before she said something, the same lie that she'd been telling everyone, "Bella wanted to go look at some colleges. She thought it might have been good to get a fresh sense of being in a different country away from her boyfriend and she knew I'm about to go look at colleges so she thought it would have been a good idea for me to come along. We just didn't know that her boyfriend was also there."
She hoped that her uncle brought the lie. From the way his expression remained the same for a few seconds before he sighed in relief. It looked like he had bought the lie. She sighed in relief and headed upstairs after grabbing her bag. Her body was already feeling some effects of jet ladness.
She threw her bag on the floor, causing a small loud thud as it met the hardwood floor. She fell on her bed, sighing as her body met the firm, yet soft bed. She pulled out her phone-certain that she had missed a few texts from her friends or even a few from her mom-checking up on her.
Shockingly, there had been none which was just fine by her. She wasn't going to bother anyone at this minute. She sighed as she saw the reminder that this was the second to last day here in Forks and soon, she will be going back to the crazy weather state. Who wants to bet that it could be raining and be sunny at the same time?
She set down her phone and looked up at the ceiling. She had no idea what to do right now, and honestly-she just didn't feel like moving away from her current position. She looked beside her,and saw that one of her books-The Color Purple was right next to her. She pulled herself up to where she was leaning against the wall as she flipped open the page that she was on.
Her phone began to ring and she groaned. She just wanted to go curl up, read and then hopefully fall asleep especially since her body was getting exhausted. She could feel her knees starting to ache-probably due to the standing around constantly. Whatever the reason was, she was going to be stuck in her knee brace for a few days.
She looked at the caller idea and was really tempted to decline it. It was from out of the country which made her even more tempted too. Out of the strange occurrence, she flicked her finger towards the green call button.
"Hello?" She asked with uncertainty.
"il mio amore, how was your trip?" Aro's voice sounded like a child with his enthusiastic tone.
"It was fine," she said. "Surprisingly my uncle didn't kill me, though certainly my mom will." She lowered her tone a little bit to where it was barely a whispered.
She heard Aro chuckled through the other side of the phone, It slightly unnerved her, especially since she wasn't really that funny. Besides, her slightly overbearing mother could literally beat her ass if her toe ever stepped out of line and she didn't feel like turning black and blue.
There was a small pause that made her feel awkward. She hated these pauses especially since it always allowed her brain to think something negative.
"How was your day?" She found herself asking, hoping to end this silence.
"It was good," Aro replied. "How was yours?"
"Exhausting with all the flights and here soon, I'll have one more. It still feels strange because I just came to Forks just to see my extended family and here I am intertwined with the supernatural world," She explained to him.
"Funny how life is," Aro said. She cracked open a small smile at that.
They soon moved into other things. It felt nice being able to talk to someone, even if it wasn't her favorite means of communication. It also helped her emptiness in her chest ease, even though-it felt like she should go run back to Italy. It was strange how much she already missed them. At least during the summer, she'll be able to spend more time with them just like she said she will.
This was just Maia and her inner thoughts because she suddenly got threw into this world. She's just trying to adjust and honestly, I can't wait for the next few chapters because they're going to be fun. Drop a review and tell me what you think!
