Ron didn't know why he felt so drawn to the book but he just did, the pull the book had on him was weird and it confused him, but he still opened the book.
On the first page, he saw a little passage over a page that listed 5 spells.
'The dark arts are misinterpreted almost all the time. Wizards and Witches will describe the dark arts as evil, but the dark arts are not inherently evil. The intention of the user is what is evil or not it is up to you if you decide to use the dark arts for evil or not,
Ron didn't know what to think about the passage. The passage did make him more interested in the dark arts though. If he could use the dark arts for good then he could become a great wizard and show everyone what he could be. He only knew a few things about the dark arts and one of them was that the dark arts were not illegal, the only spells in the dark arts that are illegal are the unforgivables, which Ron had no plan on using ever.
He looked down at the first two spells below the passage and read about them.
'Pulso Somnum(stab your wand forward while saying the spell Incarnation)- releases gas from the tip of your wand that will knock out any opponent of any size.'
'Coercitio ( make a circular motion with your wand) - shoots out black restraints that wrap around the opponent's arms and legs and is near impossible to break unless the caster breaks them'
Ron was impressed by the first two spells; they sounded bloody useful. He looked back at the two spells and found some more information on the first spell.
'The spell Pulso Somnum spurts gas out of your wand continuously making a wide cloud of gas that will knockout anyone that inhales it, if you want to make a direct line of the gas so it only affects one opponent while in a duel use the spell Semita Recta.
Semita Recta ( point your wand at your target and flick upwards) - creates a direct pathway/ tunnel for spells that are hard to control like gasses, fire, water, and other elements'
Ron reread the information and then got out his wand he had about 2 hours until he was supposed to study with Hermione and he had three new spells to practice.
He pointed his wand towards his four-post bed and did a circular motion "Coercitio'' he felt the wand vibrate but nothing happened. He tried again, he did a circular motion and chanted "Coercitio '' this time the wand vibrates more and a little black strap shot out of his wand but besides that nothing happened. Ron focused and imagined what the spell would do, he imagined big black straps shooting out of his wand and entangling the bed. He did a circular motion and yelled "Coercitio!". And this time two long black straps shot out of his wand and entangled his bed-posts pulling hard. Ron smiled to himself but had only taken him about 20 minutes and he was pumped because of that.
Maybe he had a knack for the dark arts, he wasn't sure. He decided it would be smarter to get down the spell 'Semita Recta' first so he didn't knock himself out with the gas. He did a flick with his wand and "Semita Recta" and nothing happened. He proceeded to try for another hour with no luck at all. His idea for having a knack for the dark arts was completely wrong and he just lucked out with the first spell.
He decided to try one more time before he went to study with Hermione. He raised his wand and pointed it at the wall, he flicked it upwards while saying "Semita Recta" and this time he finally felt a little vibration in the wand, but still the spell was far from working, he would spend the rest of tonight focusing on that spell.
He got up and packed all his study supplies and books inside his bag and got up to head to the library. He walked out of the secret room with his mind still on the dark arts. The spells were very useful, at least the three he was learning were. They were bloody awesome. He was gonna feel great when he got all three of them down, he would have some great defensive spells.
When he entered the library he immediately saw Hermione sitting at her usual seat in the front of the library. Her hair was all covering her face as she quickly wrote her essay for charms. Ron walked over and sat down opposite of her.
"Hey Hermione, I see you've already started so I'm just gonna get to work," Ron said as he pulled out a fresh piece of parchment for his essay. Hermione looked up at Ron and smiled.
"Hey Ron, I'm really glad you agreed to do this with me, doing it alone can get boring from time to time," she said, then she looked back down to her parchment and started writing again.
"No problem," he said cheerfully and then he too looked down at his parchment and began to write. Then they just started to work in silence as they would only ask questions if they needed help. Ron was doing his charms essay on the spell Lumos and its different variations, like Lumos maxima and Lumos Solem. He was writing about the differences of the spells and how even though they have different outcomes they all come down to the base spell Lumos which powers each different variation.
It looked like Hermione was doing hers on the levitation spell which they hadn't even done in class yet, it was nice to know someone else read ahead as well. Ron quickly finished up his essay as Hermione was halfway through her second essay. Ron only had that one essay to do as he had done all the other homework the previous day. Ron pulled out one of the books he found in his room on Transfiguration. One of the chapters caught his eye immediately so he flipped to the middle of the book and started to read.
'To find out what your animagus form is you will have to create the potion listed below, after you drink it, you will get a vision of your form. After you know your form you must be patient as being able to transform your body into another form is very advanced and not for younger or more inexperienced wizards and witches'
Ron decided to bookmark the page and leave it on the back burner. He had no faith in himself to be able to complete something like becoming an animagus yet, he needed to get better at magic first and become a more capable wizard.
Ron looked up at Hermione as he closed the book and decided to start a conversation "so, about what happened earlier" Hermione looked up at Ron as he began to speak. "Do they regularly treat you like that?" He said slowly.
Hermione looked back down to her essay "yeah they do, I just try to help them but they think I'm just being bossy" she softly, obviously embarrassed or sad about that fact.
Ron thought about how she usually talked to people and how her voice usually sounded and came to a conclusion. "Um.. maybe you are" Hermione looked up at him shocked "wait hear me out, you have the right intention in mind, to help the people out, but the tone you use while you tell people to do something is usually a bossy tone," Ron said the last part a little quietly. He didn't want to make his only friend mad but he also wanted to help her out so she wouldn't get bullied anymore.
Hermione seemed to be thinking for a second before he could see tears welling up in her eyes. What the hell? Dammit, Ron! You were an idiot!
"S-so it's just my fault then?" She cried and then buried her head in her hands. Ron immediately went to her side and tried to comfort her.
"No no of course not, I'm just telling you a thing you could change so they wouldn't treat you badly anymore. It is 100% their fault that they are being rude to you, all I'm saying is the reason they are being rude, not that the reason is good enough for them to act the way they do" Ron assured her.
Hermione looked up at him "so...you're saying I should try to sound less condescending?" She said. Ron thought about his answer for a second l, he hadn't said she sounded condescending but now that he thought about it, she could sometimes.
Ron nodded "yeah just, next time you see somebody who is doing a spell or something else wrong, instead of saying there wrong and saying how to do it, just ask them if they want help, if they say no then don't help them if they say yes then help them," Ron said. Hermione smiled up at him and then nodded as she gathered her books and parchment.
"Thanks, Ron, I appreciate it," she said as she waved goodbye and walked out of the library. Ron smiled to himself hoping his tips would work out for her.

Classes had been a bore as Ron had been heavily focused on the spell 'Semita Recta' he was determined to get it down, but seeing how his wand wouldn't even respond to the spell he just didn't know.
He faced himself towards the back wall of the secret room and pointed his wand at the wall. He breathed in and then out, in and out. He shook his head clear as he tried to focus on what he wanted to happen. A direct pathway is what he wanted. A tunnel, a way to direct a spell or magic. He slowly flicked his wand and said.
"Semita Recta" he felt his wand jiggle a little bit and his confidence grew a little bit. He imagined what he wanted again and said "Semita Recta!" His wand felt a little hotter. Finally, he imagined the spell with vast creativity and looked at the wall with determination.
He flicked his wand fast and yelled "SEMITA RECTA!" Suddenly a red see-through tunnel/cone appeared in the air and it started to form. Ron was overjoyed "yes! that was easy!" His joy was diminished rather quickly when his wand started to vibrate rather violently and then a loud bang erupted his whole line of thought as he was flung to the wall behind him, slamming his arm into the wall.
"Bloody hell" he muttered to himself. He slowly stood up and immediately winced as a sharp pain shot up his arm, he carefully rubbed his arm trying to get the pain to go away. Out of curiosity Ron pointed his wand back at the wall and flicked it while saying "Semita Recta" this time his wand didn't even jiggle and he was left feeling, confused, exhausted, and angry. He slowly made his way over to his bed and laid down, deciding that he had practiced the spell enough for the night. He needed to get 'Semita Recta' down before he could attempt 'Pulso Somnum' because he wasn't fond of the idea of accidentally knocking himself out with the gas.
He slowly closed his eyes, deciding to try and sense magic around him once again. He breathed in and out multiple times for thirty seconds, slowly he felt the pain in his arm go away as he was slowly going into a new sense to sense magic around him. He could sense the magic of the room he was in, he could sense the leftover magic of his attempt at the directional spell, and very slightly he could sense magic that seemed to be coming from him. His core! He was surprised to see that it was bright and that it shone brighter than any other magic he had ever sensed before. He slowly made his way to the magic and he noticed how the closer he got the harder it became to stay in this sense of magic bliss. His head started to ache terribly, but he kept moving forward, trying to make his way to the magical core. He was only a little ways away from it, as he made his way to touch it his head exploded with agonizing pain and he passed out.

Ron awoke in a dizzy haze, his head had a little ache but nothing too noticeable. He slowly lifted himself off his bed and checked the time, it was 3:45, his first-class didn't start till 8:00 so he had a good amount of free time. He took a quick shower and then sat down at the table in the middle of the room. He picked up a book he had pulled out the previous day 'beginner to advance range of spells' the book was compiled of spells and spells only and it excited Ron to see a book like this. He opened up the book and started swiping through the first 12 or so pages. He pulled out three spells he wanted to get down first, these spells were the summoning charm 'Acio', the stunning charm 'Stupefy', and the disarming charm 'Expelliarmus'.
He pulled out his wand and started on the summoning charm as it was on the first page saying it was an easy spell for most wizards. He attempted to summon his book bag to himself for about an hour with no success, he decided to put the rest of his time into getting the spell down. Luckily the spell wasn't anything like the directional spell which blasted him across the room, it only took him around three and a half hours to get the spell down. He had another half hour till classes started so he attempted the disarming charm and the stunning charm but both were unsuccessful after 20 minutes so he decided to head out to his classes for the day.
Ron made his way into transfiguration and sat down at a table in the front by himself. He noticed how Hermione sat next to Neville and he watched them speak between themselves for a little while, Ron could tell Neville was a little shocked that Hermione sat next to him but he soon saw Neville relax into the conversation. Ron didn't hear the conversation but he did hear one thing Hermione said and it made him pat himself on the back a little bit.
"If you ever need help with a spell or anything else in a class, just ask me. I'd be very happy to help," Hermione said to Neville who seemed happy about the fact that she would help with subjects and magic he was struggling with. Ron did feel a little sad about the fact that he wouldn't be sitting next to the only person he could even consider a friend but he pushed that jealousy down as he was very happy for Hermione to actually put herself out there and possibly make some friends within her own house.
He got out a quill and a spare piece of parchment as he started to take notes on every fact McGonagall said that he didn't know yet. Transfiguration class wasn't super interesting that day and neither was any of his other classes, Hermione had sat next to Neville or Harry in all of the classes he had with her, he saw that the three of them got along pretty nicely actually and he could see a future friendship forming between the three, it still hurt to see her not talk to him but he also knew that he didn't want Hermione to have the same fate as him and have no friends within her house so he let it go. Hermione was still his friend, he had nothing to worry about.
Classes that day were just like the previous, a complete bore. He still paid attention and learned new information every day but he couldn't help but feel anxious to go back and be able to practice spells in the secret room again. So when everyone was told to head off to the common rooms he quickly made his way to the secret room.
He summoned a spare piece of wood and hung it on the back wall. He pointed his wand at the wood and with all his excitement and his magical core ready he simply stated the spell "Expelliarmus" a red ball shot out of his wand and slammed into the wood when it made contact with the wood, it jiggled a bit but stayed on the wall. Ron smiled confidently to himself as he saw the spell work. He knew he wasn't a good wizard or better than the average student, he in his mind was below most students that were in his year, but he did have the determination to finish something once he started it. That's what he did with spells, he put his mind to learning them and out hours, days, and he would even do weeks and months if it ever came to that to complete a spell. Once in a while, though he would be able to get a spell down rather quickly, and he would feel pretty proud of himself, even if that spell was a simple spell like the disarming charm.
He then proceeded to practice the stunning charm for three hours with minor success when at the end a tiny ball of light shot out of his wand slowly, it was probably the weakest stunner he would ever see and it probably wouldn't even tickle somebody but it was still something. He then meditated a little bit to sense magic around him and then went to bed at 11:15.
Thursday, September 12, 1991
He woke up late that morning, it was 7:30 and he only had a half-hour until classes so he had no time to practice magic that morning. He quickly got up and got out his clean robes and then took a quick shower, put on his robes, and then hurried off to class, trying to make it on time. Luckily he got to class with a few minutes to spare.
He was relieved to find out that their Professor, Madame Hooch hadn't started class yet. The class was instructed to stand next to a broom. He made his way over to a broom and stood to the left of it. He spotted Hermione and smiled and waved at her, she quickly waved back before going back to excitedly talking to Neville, Neville seemed interested in their conversation, they seemed like friends. Had his advice worked that well? The class was instructed to raise their hand over the broom and say "Up" to get the broom in their hand. Ron succeeded after a few tries, he also noticed that Harry, Draco, and a few others got it on their first try, while Hermione was having a bit of trouble as her broom was just wiggling around on the floor. Hey, he had found something she wasn't good at. He inwardly laughed at that and couldn't help it when a small smile appeared on his lips.
The class was instructed to mount their brooms but to not push off the ground yet. The whole class proceeded to comply with their professor's wishes besides Neville who accidentally kicked off the ground and proceeded to lift higher and higher, he wasn't slowing down. Ron had no idea what to do, was he supposed to help, Madame Hooch was just yelling at Neville, how was that supposed to help? Before he could think of something to do Neville slipped off his broom, hit the floor, and broke his wrist. Madam Hooch and the Gryffindors rushed over to Neville to see if he was okay.
"Alright I'm going to take him to the hospital wing, none of you, and I mean none of you will fly on your brooms, do you hear me?" Madame Hooch said sternly, turning to the rest of the class.
"Yes ma'am" the class chorused. Madame Hooch took Neville inside the castle to lead him to the hospital wing. Ron hoped Neville was okay, he wasn't the kid's friend but he knew Neville wasn't a bad person so he at least hoped his injury could be fixed quickly. He was pretty sure that his wrist could be healed pretty quickly. He remembered when he was 9 and fell off of a broom breaking his leg. His mom was furious but his leg was healed rather quickly and the pain only lasted about an hour.
"Hey look what Longbottom lost!" Said a very pompous voice. Ron turned to see the owner of the voice, Malfoy holding what looked like a remembrall. Ron was about to tell the git to put it down because he knew Malfoy was more or likely gonna break it, but before he could say anything Harry stepped right into Malfoy's face.
"Give it here Malfoy," said Harry, not pleased at all. Malfoy smirked at Harry.
"You'll have to get it from me," he said with a sneer as he kicked off the ground on his broom, Neville's remembrall still in his hand. Ron watched as Harry put his leg over his broom and made the motion to push off the ground when he was stopped by Hermione.
"Harry don't do it!" Hermione pleaded "didn't you hear what Madame Hooch said?" Hermione was looking at Harry begging him with her eyes to not do it.
Harry shook his head "I'm sorry Hermione, but I have to, for Neville" Harry said proudly as he kicked off the ground. Ron watched as Harry sped up next to Malfoy. Ron was shocked at how good Harry was on a broom for this being his first time on one, he could tell Malfoy was shocked also. Malfoy's impression of shock quickly became a smirk as he threw Neville's remembrall far away from himself. Ron watched with amazement as Harry sped across the yard and caught the remembrall that had very nearly smashed against the castle.
Harry sped down to the ground, as he landed all of the Gryffindor first years rushed over to him, they were yelling and cheering him on. Ron watched Malfoy land with a sneer on his face, he could tell Malfoy was not happy at all about what had just happened. While everyone was congratulating Harry Ron noticed the loud noise of the door to the castle open, he watched McGonagall walk out of the castle with a stern look on her face, uh oh. She marched over the Gryffindors, her eyes on Harry.
"Never in all my years!" She scolded "Mr. Potter came with me," she said sternly. Multiple kids tried to protest and tell her what happened but she just raised her hand not having any of it. Ron watched as Harry followed McGonagall back into the castle with his head hung low. Ron wished that Harry wouldn't get expelled, he knew how much Harry hated spending time with his relatives and how they made him live under the stairs. He didn't know much about Harry but from what he did know he knew that Harry would be heartbroken if Hogwarts was taken away from him.
Ron's thoughts remained on Harry as he entered charms class. He hoped Harry didn't get in too much trouble and would be okay. His question was answered when Harry and Neville entered the class together. Ron saw Hermione's face light up when she saw the two boys and he saw them smile at her, they all sat down together and began to talk. How did his advice work that well? Just a few days ago they wouldn't even talk to her and now they are all buddy-buddy. He was really confused, but most of all he was a little sad, he thought maybe he and Hermione could have been friends but it seems she had made some good ones.
He didn't let the fact that he was friendless hurt him too much as he quickly pulled at his notebook and quill and pushed the thought out of his head. He paid attention to what Flitwick was talking about, they were going to be trying the wind charm, it would cause a tiny gust of wind that could push something along, a very simple spell and the second easiest spell he had ever had to learn, the first being 'Lumos'.
Ron performed the spell rather easily on his first try which earned him 5 points for his house. He tried to pay attention but it wasn't easy, today was just a stressful day, he hadn't gotten a lot of sleep the previous night as the pain in his arm was insufferable, luckily when he woke up it was barely there. On top of that, he also had detention with Snape tonight and he didn't want to go, but he knew he probably deserved it for being stupid enough to punch Malfoy in a public area with teachers present. Amateurs' mistake. It wasn't a huge deal to have detention with Snape but it did kind of suck to have detention during the first couple weeks of school.
Ron made his way out of charms class and towards the great hall for lunch. He usually didn't eat lunch as he wanted to learn magic, but he was really hungry today so he decided to go, in the end, he would only lose a couple of hours of practice, but he would also have more energy for the time he did practice. As he entered the Hall he saw Malfoy with his goons spewing something at Hermione, Harry, and Neville. Ron was furious with Malfoy, was he always a jerk? Ron was about to make his way over to see if Harry needed help with Malfoy when Malfoy turned around with a smirk on his face and made his way towards the exit of the hall where Ron was standing.
"Do you have to be a prat all the time, didn't your parents teach you manners, or is that what your parents told you manners was, to act like petty, little, self-centered pieces of-" Ron had been cut off by Malfoys fish colliding with his right eye.
"Shut up you filthy blood traitor, you know nothing of my family, and as far as you're concerned we are better than them and you in every way possible." Draco sneered at Ron as if he was the ugliest filth he ever had the misfortune of looking upon. Ron was about to get a hit in when Goyle grabbed his arm and punched him in the same place Malfoy did. Ron fell to the floor, Draco and his baboons left with a smirk on their faces.
Ron stood up with his face aching. Damn it hurt! Why the hell did he have to have such a big mouth, he was going to have to work on that. Ron slowly made his way into the great hall and he sat down at the end of the Slytherin and began to eat. Ron wasn't sure if how his life was at that moment in Hogwarts was going to be how it was for all of his seven years, but if it was then he would be thoroughly disappointed, he didn't if he would ever make a friend as it did seem that Hermione was getting along with Neville and Harry, maybe she would have time for him? He could only hope.
Ron made his way down to the potions classroom for his detention, it wasn't super late and his detention should only be a couple of hours at most which would leave him with another couple hours to practice magic after. Ron entered the classroom and immediately noticed the difference between seeing the classroom in the morning and the night. During the classes in the day the classroom simply looks like an undecorated, no effort put into the classroom, but in the night it looked eerie and he wouldn't lie it spooked him a little bit. He could see the black walls reflecting the low almost nonexistent light, coming from a torch on the side of the classroom.
Ron saw Snape scribbling away, grading assignments at his desk in the corner of the classroom. Ron cleared his throat as he made his way towards Snape.
Snape looked up from his grading and his quill stopped at the middle of one of the pages. "Ah, Mr. Weasley today I just want you to clean out some cauldrons, the cleaning supplies are in the closet over there," he said as he pointed towards a little room at the far back of the classroom "I want you to clean them manually, no magic," Snape said, he then looked back down to his paper.
"Yes sir," Ron said. Ron made his way over to the tiny supplies closet and he took out a scrubber and a bucket of water. Be carefully moved the bucket to a table where cauldrons appeared out of thin air. Damn that was cool, he had to look into magic like that. Without another word from Snape or himself, he started cleaning the cauldrons to perfection. He only had about 20 cauldrons to do so it shouldn't take him too long to finish everything up.
It took Ron about two and a half hours but he finally finished cleaning the cauldrons so that a nice perfect shine could be seen on each one. Ron had been cleaning the cauldrons in complete silence and no word from Snape, but he didn't see Snape sneaking glances at him now and then, he didn't know Snape was looking directly at his right eye where there was a black eye that he had gotten thanks to Malfoy and his goons.
Snape made his way over to inspect the cauldrons. "Very good Mr. Weasley" he drawled as he took his eyes off the cauldrons and looked at Ron. "I'll give you a pass so you can walk to the dorms.." Snape seemed to want to say something else but was stopping himself. Ron nodded in thanks and then followed the Potions Master to his desk as he wrote Ron's pass.
Snape looked up at Ron and handed him the pass "who did that to your eye" Snape said in a tone Ron couldn't place, but he didn't seem mad at Ron.
Ron shrugged "just got into a little spat with Malfoy so he decided to slug me one upside the head" after the words left Ron's mouth he wanted to bash his head into a wall. That was no way to talk to a teacher, ugh! Snape didn't seem to mind though which surprised Ron.
Snape seemed to be contemplating something before he looked Ron in the eyes "if you need my help with anything, just ask" Snape said with no sneer or rudeness in his voice. Ron was shocked, here was Snape, Snape! Talking to him as if he cared, wasn't he supposed to be a slimy bat, hell he acted like one to Harry and the rest of the Gryffindors.
"Thanks, Professor" Ron spoke sincerely, he was still utterly confused though.
Severus Snape POV
He watched as the young Weasley left his classroom and he was left shocked with himself. Why had he offered his help? He didn't like kids at all and he knew the kids he taught knew that, but here he was offering help to a Weasley! Weasley's were loud, obnoxious, and Gryffindor. Not Ronald though, he had to admit he saw a bit of himself in the boy, the feeling of being alone and having no friends, a loner in a house, at least that's how Severus felt in his first couple years of Hogwarts, he didn't have any friends, well any besides Lily… he eventually made "friends" but they weren't really, not true friends. Severus wondered if Ronald would ever even get the type of friends he had when he was at Hogwarts, he doubted it, he was considered a blood traitor after all.
Snape didn't have any idea why he had this interest in the boy, but he did. Out of all the first years and debatably even the rest of the school, he was the most interesting student.
Ronald Weasley POV
Ron was making his way towards the secret room to practice some magic when he heard a scream coming from somewhere nearby. He made his way towards the scream till he arrived at the entrance to the third floor forbidden corridor. He went to open the door when three people ran out of the door and ran right into Ron. The door first years fell to the ground with a loud thud. Ron immediately recognized them as Harry, Neville, and Hermione, he also noticed how they all seemed out of breath.
"What are you doing here!" Harry yelled at Ron, Ron flinched a little as he wasn't expecting a yelling match.
"I had detention with Snape and I was on my way back from it and I heard you guys screaming, are you alright?" Ron said. The trio looked at each other and then nodded.
"Yeah, we are Ron thanks for asking, uh we gotta get back to the Gryffindor common room so see ya," said Hermione as the three made their way around Ron and headed back towards their common room.
Ron was left very confused, what had they seen that was so terrible, he was tempted to check for himself, but decided against it as it probably wasn't pretty, the corridor was forbidden for a reason, right?
Ron made his way into the secret room and laid on his bed preparing to meditate and harness his magical core. He had been proceeding very very slowly with harnessing and sensing his magical core and it was getting on his nerves, but he had to remember that he was a first-year and that he had plenty of time, so he laid down in his bed, closed his eyes, and then begun to try and reach out for his magical core.
I hope you enjoyed! Please Read and Review. Im still working with my writing and trying to see what I need to tweak, so it would appreciated if you reviewed, thanks!
