Chapter 5

Jackson arrived at the 9-1-1 Call Center. Karen walked over to him.

"Heard you met Patrol Sergeant Angie Williams yesterday," Karen said.

"Sure did," Jackson said. "I'd really love to talk about that, but it's time for me to start my shift."

No longer had he sat down, Jackson received a call.

"9-1-1," Jackson said. "Please state your emergency."

"I'd like to order some Chinese food," a woman's voice said over the phone.

Jackson immediately realized something was wrong.

"Does someone in the house have a weapon?" Jackson asked as he typed.

"Yes," the woman replied. "This is Alison Neeson. And yes, I do want the two orders of Kung Pao Chicken like last time."

"Is it someone you know?" Jackson asked.

"Yes," Alison replied. "For me and my husband. 1123 Milo Avenue, Oklahoma City."

"Is anyone else at the residence?" Jackson asked.

"Just two orders," Alison replied. "Just me and my husband."

"Dispatch to Officer," Jackson said into his earpiece. "Come in Officer."

"Officer to Dispatch," Angie's voice came from the other end.

"Is this Angie?" Jackson asked.

"Jackson?" Angie asked.

"We have a domestic hostage situation at 1123 Milo Avenue," Jackson said. "Woman is being held hostage by her husband. He is armed and dangerous."

"I'm about half a mile away from that location," Angie said.

"Alison?" Jackson asked. "Are you still there?"

"What is my total?" Alison asked.

"Officer Angie Williams is almost to your house," Jackson said. "She's half a mile away."

Angie drove towards the house. She then remembered the tragic call. She picked up her talkie.

"This is Patrol Sergeant Angie Williams," Angie said. "I need backup on a domestic hostage situation. 1123 Milo Avenue."

Meanwhile, Alison sat on the couch while her husband sat in the reclining chair watching a basketball game on TV with a gun in his hand.

"Get me a beer!" Alison's husband shouted.

Alison got up as the doorbell rang.

"Delivery for Alison!" a voice hollered from the other side of the door.

"Don't just sit there!" Alison's husband shouted. "Answer the door!"

Alison walked to the door and nervously opened it. Angie stood on the other side of the door and quickly grabbed Alison. Three other female officers ran into the house and pointed their guns at Alison's husband.

"Drop the weapon and get down on the floor!" one of the officers shouted.

Outside, Angie comforted a terrified Alison.

"You probably think I'm such an idiot," Alison cried. "Staying with such an abusive man."

"You're not an idiot," Angie assured her. "By the way, you really know how to handle yourself in a crisis."

Alison hugged Angie.

"Thank you so much for saving me," Alison said.

Later, Angie entered the 9-1-1 Call Center as Jackson headed out.

"Jackson," Angie said.

"Hey, Angie," Jackson said. "Funny how we keep running into each other."

"Yeah," Angie said.

"Are you still on duty?" Jackson asked.

"No," Angie replied. "My shift just ended. I was actually looking for you."

"You were?" Jackson asked.

"I just wanted to inform you that Alison Neeson was successfully rescued," Angie said.

"That's wonderful," Jackson said.

"And I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go out to dinner or something," Angie said.

"Oh," Jackson said. "Like on a date?"

"Yes," Angie said.

"Okay," Jackson said. "How about tonight?"

"That's perfect," Angie replied.

"I just need to go home and change out of my uniform," Jackson said.

"Same," Angie said. "How about we meet at the Chicken Wing Joint in an hour?"

"Okay," Jackson said. "See you in an hour."

Jackson walked out as Angie walked over to Karen.

"Angie," Karen said. "What's up?"

"Can I listen to the call?" Angie asked.

"Angie," Karen said. "You need to stop this. It wasn't your fault."

"It was," Angie said. "I should have called for backup. I basically killed that woman."

"Angie," Karen said. "It's not going to get better until you face it," Karen said. "It wasn't your fault. I'm telling you this as a friend. Let it go. Move on with your life."

"It's just too hard," Angie cried.

Karen hugged Angie.

"It's going to be okay," Karen said.
