Everyone watched the bloodied and unconscious ninja sprawled on the street. Not one of them saying a word. Everyone had different things occupying their mind.
Acknowledgment.
'So, this is the power of the so-called 'strongest man on earth? I see now. It may not be on sensei's level, but to think mere words was enough to deal with this stalker. There may be some credit to his nickname.'
Resignation.
'This, this is S-class strength…'
'There's no way we B-class will be able to catch up to this level of strength…'
Admiration
'This is the man that's rumored to even rival her as the world's strongest. If only I can get that power in my group'
And fear.
'O-Only m-mere words… what will happen to me if I get on his bad side…?'
But from everyone present, they're two individuals who know what just transpired.
Sonic did just trip himself on some rock.
Saitama's eyebrows are down as his eyes narrow in bemusement. Mouth in a frown and his back lost all kind of tension in it and just slouched down along with his arms.
'Seriously, just what was that…? That Sonic just run around and trip himself all over the place… Even though King warned him…'
'How strange. In my life, I think this is the first time I ever see someone trips on a fight and hurt themselves so badly.' Enkidu said. 'Is this your doing master? I don't feel any magecraft or other interference though?'
Enkidu's voice is laced with confusion and wonder as it tries to calculate everything in its high-tech computer-like mind. But no matter what it always fails. If calculation falls short to explain the happening, then there's only one explanation left.
King himself stared at Sonic remain with an indifferent stare. At least on the surface. Inside his mind his sweating bullets and shitting brick.
Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump
'HOLLY SHIT! THAT'S CLOSE!' King felt his heart was going to stop its loud beating. 'I was just standing, minding my own business, and of course! I'll be the center of attention! When he started blurring out of view, I really CAN'T SEE HIM! At all! I just stared into space and started muttering some shit I don't remember. And somehow! Somehow the man that's supposed to take my head is sprawled on the ground with blood and cuts all over him.'
King glanced at everyone else that for whatever reason gathered in front of Saitama's apartment. He saw The Blizzard Group member had their eyes wide open, staring at him. Something akin to amazement and respect slowly growing in their eyes.
Tatsumaki's little sister, Fubuki, looks at him with a bit more reserved state. Her eyes narrowed with her lips forced into a bitter smile and a single sweat running down her cheek.
Genos is looking at him with a determined eye.
Saitama just stood there and looks at Sonic with a small frown while scratching his bald head and his other hand at his chin, seemingly confused.
'Saitama bro is as usual but,' King swept his gaze again to everyone else, getting the same expression as before. 'NOOO! Just what's on their mind!? Please whatever it is, please let it be just something that I don't need to worry about in the future…' King thought as he closes his eyes in deep and passionate prayer.
'I'm surprised, master.' Enkidu added its thought. 'I was always wondering. With your little to nothing strength and occupation as the 'Strongest Hero', along with your unique body constitution that attracts monsters to you, just how did you survive this world filled with monsters. So, this, is what's keeping you alive.'
'Huh? What do you mean?' King opened his eyes and asked Enkidu.
'I don't have any solid base in saying this, but most likely, your unbelievably huge and widespread reputation is affecting those around you, whether it's enemy or friend into overestimating you on a disturbingly high level, thus affecting their thought and decision making.'
King looked at the defeated Sonic once again.
'And the result of that is what we're seeing now
King gulped. He did have some feelings that were the case but he never thought that it will be at that level. He felt chills down his spine.
'Just how strong of an existence did everyone make me out to be!?'
He just wanted to forget everything for a while and play some games to forget all these stresses. King hesitated on what to do for a while before deciding.
"Hey, is he going to be okay?" King said pointing at Sonic. Everyone looked at him as he speaks. "Should we call the hero association or the police so that they can treat him? I mean he looks pretty beat up right now."
As he said that, everyone seems to broke out of their stupor and returned to their usual self. Mountain Ape and Eyebrow quickly called the Hero Association to get Sonic so that he can be treated.
"Well? You all let yourselves in with some unknown reasons, but you better leave as soon as you finish eating." Saitama reluctantly agreed to let the Blizzard Group eat dinner together with them in his house.
But somehow, the atmosphere is tense. No one said anything. The Blizzard Group and Genos focussed on a single person in the room. Or maybe, a single monster would be more accurate.
Mosquito girl curls herself into a small ball behind King and Saitama. The visible shoulder could be seen trembling. Whimpers quietly reached their ears as the monster girl held her hands over her head as some sort of cover.
King and Saitama shared a glance and then they looked at the cowering Mosquito Girl.
"Sensei!" Genos abruptly cut through the tense atmosphere, making the both of them turn to him.
"Yes?"
"I suggest that you rethink your decision!" Genos had an earnest look on his face.
"Huh? What are you on about?"
"It'll be hazardous for the body to consume an unknown living thing!"
A squeal can be heard from behind King and Saitama.
"I'M NOT EATING HER!"
Genos looks confused at his sensei, who's popping a few veins on his head.
"Then, why did this monster here Sensei? If my memory data is correct, this is the mosquito monster that you killed when we first met, isn't she?"
King let out a nervous chuckle and decide to explain things to Genos and the Blizzard group.
"You see, Genos Bro. This here is Mosquito girl. She's… different from the one that you fought when you first met Saitama Bro." Genos looked at King.
"Different? How so?"
Saitama still a bit irritated eats another box of Takoyaki while he listens absentmindedly to King's explanation.
"There's this guy called Dr. Genus. He's opening a Takoyaki shop and in need of an employee. So he decided to use the data of Mosquito girl that Saitama defeated and create a new one." King turns slightly behind him as he finished his explanation. "But it seems that she developed some trauma and became like a different person. Don't worry, she won't attack humans anymore. She's turned over a new leaf."
Genos studies the cowering form of Mosquito girl and to his Sensei who quietly eats a box of Takoyaki, before finally letting out an "I see."
Genos switched his attention to the other intruder to his sacred training ground his eyes narrowing even further.
"Well? What about you?" The Blizzard Group tensed as they feel the pressure exhibited by the Demon Cyborg. "Didn't you realized that it'd be futile to even think about trying to crush Saitama-sensei? Why did you enter his house? Sensei is a busy person and doesn't have time for the likes of you so you better leave as soon as possible."
King had a troubled look when he watches as Genos took the lead of the conversation. He whispers to Saitama quietly.
"Hey Saitama Bro, why did Genos Bro suddenly take control of the conversation?"
"Don't mind him, he's just that kind of person." He said as he keeps eating not even paying attention to what they're talking about anymore. King looks unsure but decides to just watch the event unfold.
Meanwhile, Fubuki who is shocked that an important matter was thrown aside that easily voiced her dissatisfaction.
"Huh? Wai- What!?" Fubuki stood up from her seat and point an accusing finger at Mosquito Girl. "Are you just going to let it go like that!? She's a monster, Monster! As a hero how could you just let it slide!?"
Fubuki's voice is shaking a little in bewilderment and disbelief. Despite that Genos just stared at her unflinchingly.
"Shut up. This is what Saitama-sensei had decided upon. Your input is unnecessary."
Fubuki's mouth hung open as she heard that. Her two subordinates behind her can only look at each other, unsure of how to proceed.
"But you are a hero! Your job is to kill monsters! Something that you're not doing right now!"
Unbelievable, everything that she's been doing. Desperately gathering hero to increase her strength and killing as many monsters as possible while considering the safety of her subordinates to garner attention to her group so that she can prove to her that groups can be a source of strength as well.
Isn't that what a hero should be?
Genos is about to open his mouth to retort, but Saitama beats him to the punch.
"Wrong."
Fubuki turns to the B-class that had interrupted her. The bald hero couldn't focus on his food as there's shouting in his apartment and he started paying attention to the conversation.
"...Huh?"
"A hero's job is not to kill a monster." Saitama gulped his final Takoyaki and gave Fubuki an Intense gaze with Takoyaki crumbs on his chin.
"A hero's job is to defeat BAD GUY." Saitama keeps staring at her with his serious look.
Fubuki stared at the B-class. Not at all amused by what he's saying. It feels like he's joking around.
"Stop joking around! Isn't it the same!? And besides, what a rookie B-class like you know about becoming a hero anyway!?" She asked Saitama heatedly as Saitama's furniture started to shakes.
Saitama returned to his bored look. He moves to takes his manga to read as he's already losing interest in the conversation.
"You're right. I don't know any details or how-to on becoming a hero, I'm just doing this as a hobby anyway." He said nonchalantly as he started to look for the page that he wants to read.
"A, A hobby…?" Fubuki didn't even have the energy to shout as his reasoning is so half-assed.
"Yes. But I could see there's nothing heroics in beating down and killing someone that doesn't even want to fight at all." Saitama finishes as he finally finds the page that he's looking for. "Oh! This is where I left off." And started to read.
Fubuki stops herself and got a good look at the monster that she's so convinced it needs to be killed. What she's seeing right now is a woman probably close her age or even younger crouching behind King and Saitama. She had her hands above her head as a cover while her body shook and whimpers escaped her lips occasionally. What she saw is a scared and shivering mess of a person. There's no monster here even with that looks on her physique.
She finally calms down and dropped in her seat. Suddenly tired. But most importantly upset with herself as her behavior is alarmingly familiar with that of hers. The one person that she promises to never become.
"Fubuki-sama!" (2X)
She looks up to find Eyebrow and Mountain Ape rushing to support her with a look of concern on their face. She lifts her face to see Genos is writing something down at a fast pace in a notebook while Saitama looks at him with a troubled face. She looks at King where he's trying to comfort the monster girl while offering a game console to her so that they can play together.
Fubuki looks at that spectacle. A group that interacts with each other not bothering to see the differences of rank, strength, or even species. They look a mess but somehow, she got a feeling that they're enjoying one another presence.
'Can I be a part of it too…? '
Probably this is what she was aiming for. The ideal group strength that could dwarf isolated strength.
After they apologises and ate their fill of Takoyaki. The Blizzard group went on their way, apologizing once again as they excuse themselves. After everything that happened Mosquito girl could finally release a breath of relief after Fubuki apologized to her and promise to be civil with her if they ever meet again.
But what surprised her the most was how Saitama the one who killed her has stood up for her. basically, saying that even if she's a monster, she's not a bad guy. And King that voted for her too, a monster, that she's not going to harm anyone anymore. Which is of course true.
She was about to return to the house of Takoyaki when the sun started to set. But first, she decides to express her gratitude to the two heroes. The other one, Demon Cyborg is currently doing the dishes.
"Uhm… King-san, Saitama-san." The two mentioned people turn away from the game screen and look at her. "I, I want to say thank you. Thank you that, you stood up for me…" her voice is getting smaller and smaller but she gathered her courage. "I promise that I'll not let you done and not harm anyone!" She declared strongly. Her eyes shine with earnest determination.
King and Saitama look at each other and smiles at her.
"Yeah sure. Do your best." Saitama said flatly but with a bit of warmth in it.
"That's good. But you still have to at least fight back if someone else tries to bring you harm, or just run as fast as possible to avoid the problem." King said confidently, but deep inside.
'Because that what I'll do…'
'Master, I can hear you.'
King flinched a bit and forced a smile.
Mosquito girl tilted her head to the side but quickly returned King's Smile.
"Of course!" She then turns toward the door, about to leave. "Well then, see you letter King-san and Saitama-san. Oh! And Genos-san too!" she picked up her voice a little at the end but still ended not so loud, she hoped that Genos could hear her.
"Ah." Her worries were unneeded as the quick response come. She sighs in relief. she opened the door and went on her way home.
Seeing Mosquito girl leaves with a bit more confidence makes King glad.
"Phew, for a moment I'm quite unsure on how it'll go. Right, Saitama-bro? I guess I'm going to play games until late at night with your TV."
"Yeah, sure. Eh?" Saitama suddenly realized something very important.
King noticed this and asks him what's up.
"I kinda forget but," Saitama stood up and open his closet that holds his futons. "I only got two futons though…"
"Ah…" That moment King realized that he's going to get intimate with the floor tonight.
Whoo, gotta hurry.
Another procrastinated chapter guys. Thanks a bunch for the 100 follows.
It's been a great whip for me to keep going.
My week has been filled with the idea of another crossover and the Ooku event. Even though I'm just a casual scrub that doesn't strengthen all my important servant skills to ten.
Anyways, there's not much happening in this chapter. Just my attempt at character development.
What do you think? Good? Which part is good and how is it good? Bad? Which part is bad and how is it bad?
And Next chapter will be on 9th April 2021.
Have a good night : )
