Elizabeth read, and reread and reread the letter yet again before totally breaking down into hysterical sobs. She completely broke down, falling to the floor and just crying her heart out, so confused as to how after her very open confession that she wanted to be with him and only him Nathan had believed she had chosen Lucas.

Rosemary who was walking in town saw the door to the jail wide open and Elizabeth crying hysterically on the floor. She quickly walked up the steps and was shocked to find the jail completely empty besides for Elizabeth. Once again Rosemary sat down next to Elizabeth and held her tight. Rosemary knew that Elizabeth had wanted to be with Nathan so she was very confused by the scene that was unfolding in front of her eyes and as much as she wanted answers immediately, she knew she would have to wait until Elizabeth was calm enough to talk to her.

Rosemary: Elizabeth, what happened? Where's Nathan

Elizabeth: I don't know.

Rosemary: Okay, so you will find him soon and then you'll get to tell him how you feel. So why are you crying?

Elizabeth: Rosemary I did talk to him

Rosemary: So now I am really confused

Elizabeth: Me too.

Rosemary: I'm not trying to sound insensitive when you are clearly upset but can you please be more specific about what is going on.

Elizabeth: So after I left the house, I walked straight to the jail but bumped into Lucas who in front of Nathan told me he made a mistake and he is in love with me.

Rosemary: Okay, I totally didn't see that coming.

Elizabeth: Yeah, me neither

Rosemary: So what did you say?

Elizabeth: Nothing, Lucas and Nathan got into a heated argument, and eventually I asked them to grow up and let me talk. I asked Lucas if I could talk to him first and they both agreed. I told Lucas that I had really wanted to pick him but if I was being honest with everyone including myself I was completely in love with Nathan the whole time and therefore it was officially over between me and Lucas.

Rosemary: How did Lucas take it?

Elizabeth: He told me that if I didn't tell Nathan how I felt, then he would.

Rosemary: Typical Lucas.

Elizabeth: Yup

Rosemary: So what happened after you spoke with Lucas?

Elizabeth: I went and arranged a whole romantic picnic for me and Nathan, and I was really excited about it because although we have spent a lot of time together it was never romantic, or date like and I really wanted this conversation, this moment to be something special for both of us.

Rosemary: Nathan must have appreciated that gesture. I know he really wanted to have a real date with you for a while now.

Elizabeth: I wouldn't know what he thought of it.

Rosemary: Why not?

Elizabeth: He didn't comment about it, not a word, not a smile, nothing.

Rosemary: You never spoke with him?

Elizabeth: It took a lot of effort to convince Allie to let me talk to him, and eventually she agreed and I was really excited. We walked in companionable silence to where I had set everything up. Nathan barely spoke the whole time. After we sat down, but before eating I told Nathan how I felt, where my heart was, what I wanted for the future and before I knew what was happening Nathan, without so much of a single comment ran away. I tried stopping him, asking him to talk to me with zero response. By the time I got back to the jail, Nathan was gone and the jail was empty besides for this letter.

Elizabeth handed Rosemary the letter Nathan had written to her and she remained silent while Rosemary read the whole thing.

Rosemary: From this letter it seams like Nathan believes you chose Lucas.

Elizabeth: Yeah I see that. But I'm so confused why? I told him I loved him, and wanted to be with him. I just don't understand what went wrong. I just have no clue what to do now. I fell like my heart is completely crushed and I just cant think straight. It also kills me to think that I made Nathan feel this way when I rode off on my horse without so much as a word to him after the first time he told me he loved me.

Rosemary: I know this is hard Elizabeth. But you need to fight for him. Tell him your not sure how, but he made a mistake, you didn't choose Lucas, your heart chose him.

Elizabeth: I really want to Rosemary but I don't even know where he is going.

Rosemary: There is no place special he might run too if his heart has been broken again?

Elizabeth: Rosemary, you are brilliant! I love you!

Elizabeth quickly got up, ran out of the jail and straight to the stables. She quickly took out Sergent and began riding out of town. Elizabeth went straight for "their place", the place where Nathan first told her he loves her. Elizabeth knew that if her heart had been broken by him this is the first place she would turn to. It turns out she was right about Nathan and she was relieved to see both him and Allie sitting on the log talking deep in thought.

Allie: So what's the plan uncle Nathan?

Nathan: I'm not sure, I didn't really think it through.

Allie: What really happened? Because it didn't seam like she wanted to choose Lucas when she left with you on the walk.

Nathan: She didn't, she did pick me. She told me she loved me, she wanted to be with me, have a family with me.

Allie: Okay now I'm way more confused than before.

Nathan: Oh yeah, and why is that?

Allie: I know I shouldn't have read the letter you wrote her, but after your actions I just had to read it. You wrote in your note that she had chosen Lucas.

Nathan: When Elizabeth was talking to me and told me how she felt and what she wanted she also explained why she had originally chosen to be with Lucas. Allie, for the first time it dawned on me why she was never able to open her heart to me. I knew from what she said that she didn't choose Lucas now, but I panicked. I just don't know if she is ever going to be able to fully open up to me regardless of how much she wants it.

Allie: You lost me.

Nathan: Elizabeth will always be afraid of losing me the same way she lost Jack, regardless of my profession. She is a woman who will be looking over her shoulder for the rest of her life and I just don't know if I am capable of handling that.

Allie: So now you don't want to be with her?

Nathan: Allie, I really love Elizabeth, I really do. I just don't want to spend the rest of my life having to prove it to her. I want to be with someone who will be able to feel my love and wants to be with me just as much as I want to be with them.

Allie: Uncle Nathan, I get that Elizabeth really hurt you, she hurt me too. But she finally wants to be with you, be with us. So why are you doing exactly what she did when you told her you were in love with her? Why don't you give her a chance. You can take it slow but at least see where it goes.

Nathan: It's not that simple Allie

Allie: for me it is.

Nathan: I don't know Allie.

Allie: Uncle Nathan, please can you do this for me?

Just then Nathan noticed Elizabeth riding towards him and before he had a chance to think he quickly got on his horse and began riding away.

Elizabeth: Nathan stop! Nathan please! Nathan!

Nathan turned his horse around and they rode towards each other.

Elizabeth: I chose you. Not Lucas. I want to be with you.

Nathan: I know you did Elizabeth

Elizabeth: So why did you run away telling me to have a good life with Lucas.

Nathan: I don't want to be with someone who is unsure that they really want to be with me.

Elizabeth: I am one thousand percent sure, that's what I want. And I'm so sorry it took me so long to realize it.

Nathan: I don't know if that's the truth Elizabeth

Elizabeth: Nathan I don't know what else I can do to show you how sorry I am for my behavior and for how much I really want this.

Nathan: I think I know of one way.

Nathan and Elizabeth both quickly got off their horses and before he knew what was happening she ran into his arms pulling him in for a deep and loving kiss. Nathan felt his heart pumping out of his chest, he was elated. This felt so right, so true. He just hoped this wasn't a dream and this feeling of love would last forever. Eventually Elizabeth broke the kiss and smiled as she looked at him lovingly.

Nathan: That was a great start.

Elizabeth: I love you so much Nathan. I'm so sorry for hurting you.

Nathan: I love you too.

This time Nathan bent in to the kiss first. He held her close not wanting to ever leave go. Elizabeth placed her arms on Nathan's chest and he slowly brough his own hands on top of her and that is when he noticed that hard hands were completely soft and smooth. He looked down, and then back up to her all the while with a huge smile on his face.

Nathan: You took off your rings.

Elizabeth: Of course I did. Nathan I wouldn't tell you I loved you if it wasn't the honest truth. I am finally in a place where I can safely say that I loved Jack, I really did and there was a time where I couldn't picture being with anyone else. But as Rosemary so eloquently reminded me, Jack was in my life for a season, Lucas for a reason and you for a lifetime.

Nathan was elated to hear what she said and he picked her up and while kissing her he twirled her around. When he placed her back on her feet Elizabeth looked up to him and said.

Elizabeth: Nathan, this was the perfect start for our new beginning.
