Chapter 5

Rick sighed as he entered the nightclub, Stampede, the location of the incidents from the report. He had intended to arrive earlier when they had just opened up but got caught up with other work and research into the gangs. As such he found the place was already packed and the music was already pounding. Approaching the door the bouncer turned to him.

"Sir, I need to ask you to wait in line." He said.

Rick pulled out his badge and explained. "I'm not here for a party, I need to speak to the owner as part of an investigation into incidents that have been happening at this club for some weeks now?"

The bouncer's manner changed at once. "Ah, right, just a moment."

He spoke to his colleague and, leaving him in charge at the door, led Rick inside and they began to wend their way through the crowd, all young people already getting drunk and dancing to the music, some wildly, others not so much. But it was clear that things were not so rowdy yet, just people having fun.

'So far so good.' Rick mused. 'Not missed anything, so I have a chance to find out who is involved.'

He entered the office of the owner who stood up at once.

"Ah, hello, Officer-?"

Rick introduced himself. "Rick, Rick Grimes."

"Officer Grimes. I'm glad you're here." He said as they shook hands.

Sitting down Rick pondered how to best approach the situation.

Finally he shook his head and just got to the point.

"So, as you were probably told or have guessed, I'm here about the various incidents that have been happening."

The owner nodded. "Yes, we've had it all, fights, property damage, it's always the same people. We've tried to ban them, but they still get in somehow and then escalate things from there."

"So, what exactly can I do to help?" He asked.

"Well, I'm not sure if all of them will be here, but, something that could help for a start…" The owner paused and considered. "It's always on nights like this they come in. Maybe if you kept an eye on things you might see the perpetrators."

Rick considered for a moment, unsure for a moment, it would be tricky and it wasn't like he would be able to make any arrests on his own, especially if it were a group. But he felt the owner had a point, as he said this could be a chance to get an eye on and identify some of those responsible, that would be useful further down the road in the investigations.

"Alright, that sounds like a plan." He agreed at last. "I'll find somewhere where I have a good view of the people and keep an eye out."

The owner nodded in agreement. "Alright, thank you, I'll have a word with my staff, if they see anything they'll let you know."

Rick agreed with this and left the office, ready to begin his watch, it was going to take a long time, he was sure of that, but if it helped with the case he would endure it.

Meanwhile, out on the dance floor, Carl couldn't help but grin as he and Lydia danced, still entranced by her outfit. The flashing lights of the club reflected well off her outfit, even her exposed skin. She turned to him, grinned widely and casually pushed her hair back before taking his hands.

"C'mon, Grimes, let's go crazy." She laughed.

He nodded. "Oh, we'll go crazy alright. Still can't believe you got me in here."

Laughing they continued to dance together, enjoying themselves. Doing so, Carl couldn't help but take note.

'Yeah, can't believe she did it, mostly how easy it was?' He thought. 'Over twenty-one club and they barely even check IDs at the door.'

Still, he wasn't going to complain, he was having a good time, they'd already had a few drinks and after they finished dancing to the current song he smirked.

"Want another drink, I'll go grab it?" He asked.

Lydia nodded. "Sure, thanks."

Still smiling he worked his way through the crowd to the bar. But before he could even get out of sight of Lydia he heard her yelp and turned just as she slapped a young man in the face.

"What the fuck?!" He yelled.

She glowered. "You're the one who fucking groped me, creep!"

Carl glowered, his anger building, even more so as the young man spoke again.

"It's your fault dressing that way, bitch!" He snapped.

The young man was tall, slightly built with long brown hair, brown eyes and pale skin, having a grunge look to him, Carl didn't care, he immediately approached.

He immediately got between Lydia and the man, shoving him back.

"Hey, what's your problem, punk?" The man snapped.

Carl glowered. "You are my problem, I heard what happened, you think that's funny, assaulting someone like that-"

"Assault, bitch was asking for it."

Lydia cut in. "I did not ask you to grab my ass, you stupid-"

"Nobody asked you, girlie." The young man scoffed.

"Hey!" Carl snapped, getting in his face. "You don't dare talk to my girlfriend that way, or touch her in any way."

"Girlfriend, ha, don't make me laugh…" He sneered.

"Carl!"

Carl froze upon hearing that voice, it was the last one he expected to hear in a place like this. The young man froze too, noting the uniform the man who just stepped up was wearing.

Carl swallowed. "D-dad?"

Rick stood there, beside himself with rage.
