Episode 5: "Secret Comes Out"
D.J. just stared at her husband, who was staring back at her with a worried look on his face. He walked closer to her and D.J.'s breathing became heavier and she knew she couldn't keep the secret from him anymore. She was starting to regret keeping Rayne from him for such a long time. She even told her family to not tell him until she was ready to do so herself, but yet, three years later, still hasn't told him- until now.
"Matt, I-I need to-um-tell you something...and-and I don't know how...you're going to react." She stutters her voice. Tears are filling up, she tries to fight them back, but it's nearly impossible. The tears were falling down her face.
Matt, who was now just as concerned and curious on why she's crying. "Baby, what's wrong? Is Victoria okay? Are Layah and Liza okay?" He asked.
She nods her head. "No, no, they're fine. I've been keeping something from you for a while…" She mutters as she tried to calm the tears but they are falling down too fast to keep them at bay.
"What? What have you been keeping from me?" He asks, clearly now furious. What couldn't she tell him? Oh, she had a daughter with Steve 24 years ago.
D.J. looked at Steve, who was now sweating with how nervous he was. If Matt is going to find out, he'll have to tell C.J. who still thinks he loves D.J., which is true. He never stopped loving her. He had to let her go three years ago, but now, he's regretting it.
"I-I had a daughter when I was seventeen. She's now 24 years old, that's who you saw…" D.J. finally says after some time.
Matt's eyes went wide. "What?! You kept a daughter a secret from me! What the hell, D.J.? Why didn't you tell me three years ago? Who the hell is her dad?" He asks, angrily. He was so mad that you could see steam coming out of his ears.
Steve finally spoke up. He took a deep breath. He knew Matt was angry, and letting him know that he was the father will make him anglier. "I...I am."
Matt's eyes widened even more. He turned to Steve, and ran his hands through his hair. "What?!" He screams.
Steve sighs deeply. "I'm Rayne's father." He says again.
Matt glares at Steve. "You knew about this and couldn't tell me? You and I are or were friends!" He yells at him again before clenching his fist and throws a punch in Steve's jaw.
Seeing this before her eyes, D.J.'s eyes widened and pulled her husband off of Steve. "Matt! Stop!" She cries out for her husband to stop, but he pushes her away. "No! You should've told me, D.J. and guess what? You didn't!"
Jimmy and Fernando hear what's going on outside and rush outside to see Matt punching Steve in the face. They rush over and pull Matt off of Steve, who had a busted lip and a bruise forming on his jaw. "What's going on here?" Jimmy asks as he pulls Matt back.
"They had a daughter together and didn't dare to tell me! My wife kept something that serious from me!" Matt yells as he glares at his wife and Steve. "I need to go…"
D.J. looks at her husband with fresh tears falling down her face. "Matt…"
Matt shook his head. "No, I need some time alone from you before I do say something you don't want me to say, D.J."
She watches him walk away from her and gets into his car and drives away. "I'm so stupid...I-I- I should've…" She wipes the falling tears as she rushes inside, slams the door shut and slides down the door as the tears fall harder. Not in the mood to wipe them, she lets them fall.
Stephanie came inside the house with her daughters, Olivia, Blayke and son, Dylan when she heard crying from the kitchen. She places Dylan down on the ground and lets her children go play and she walks into the kitchen to see her sister, on the floor, crying. Stephanie walked over to D.J.
"Deej, what's wrong?"
D.J. sniffled as she looked at her sister. "Matt found out about Rayne, Steph. I didn't even tell him the way I wanted. He got mad and he punched Steve in the face."
Stephanie's eyes went wide. "What? Matt punched Steve?"
"Yes." D.J. says, as she sniffles. She heard Victoria crying. "I have to go get Tori. I-"
Stephanie shook her head. "No, I'll get her. You need to calm down before you get her upset too."
"You're right." D.J. stands up from the floor and heads to the fridge and opens the freezer. "I need some ice cream. It's been a crazy morning…"
After Steph leaves to go get her niece, Jackson walks downstairs with Ramona following him. They walk into the kitchen together. Jackson looks at his mother, who was eating the ice cream out of the pint.
"Hey, Mom. How did it go with Rayne?" He asks, he sits next to her.
She turns to her son, sighing. "It was a shit show…" She says softly.
Ramona looks at her mother's best friend. "You never curse, who are you, what have you done with D.J.?"
D.J. sighs. "Well…" She began filling them in on what happened with Steve and Matt, and Matt leaving. When she was finished, Jackson and Ramona's eyes were both wide.
"Uh-well...Wow, I'm speechless…" Jackson says as he comforts his mother, who was now crying in his shoulder.
"It's okay, Mom. It's okay." He whispers in her ear. "At least you told Dad, right?"
Ramona looked at her boyfriend. She hits him in the back of the head. "That didn't help, you idiot! Be sensitive for Christ sakes!"
Jackson sighs. "Sorry, I didn't realize…" He looks at his mother. "I'm sorry, Mom."
D.J. nods slowly. "It's okay, honey. I know you didn't mean to say that."
Ramona smiles slightly. "I'm sure everything will work out…"
Later that night, Steve and C.J.'s Place
C.J. was sitting on the bed in her and Steve's bedroom, her hands on her lap and tears in her eyes.
"You have a fucking daughter with D.J., and had no thought of telling me? What the hell, Steve? How could you not tell me? I'm your wife!" She says through tears.
Steve sighs as he runs his fingers through his hair. "I'm sorry, C.J. I didn't expect to see Rayne-"
C.J. shakes her head. 'I don't want to know her name or have anything to do with her! You had the chance to tell me about her before we were married and you chose not to tell me!" She yells at him.
Steve was taken back by her response. How can she be so heartless? He did not tell her and he should've, but that doesn't mean C.J. should say that about his daughter, who he just met after 24 years.
Through his anger, he glared at her. "Don't you dare say you don't want anything to do with my daughter, Connie! She is your stepdaughter!" He yells back.
C.J. shakes her head. "No, she's adopted! Therefore, she is NOT my stepdaughter, nor she is your daughter, Steve." She stands up from the bed. "You put her up for adoption, remember?"
Steve groans deeply. "I fucking know that! She is still my BIRTH daughter. She will be in my life from now on, so if you don't want to be in her life…" He glares at her as he reaches for the bedroom door's handle. "...I'm not going to be married to a heartless bitch who doesn't want to be a part of my daughter's life! I'll be filing for divorce, so you don't have to!" He yells, and opens the door after packing his stuff and slams the bedroom door shut and runs down the stairs and out the door.
