-One Day Later-
"Sergeant, how much jewelry did the owner say was stolen?" Captain Stacy asked one of his sergeants as soon as they excited the jewelry store.
"Close to 1.7 million dollars total." the sergeant quickly informed his boss as the two made their way into Captain Stacy's car.
"There goes our entire damn case." Captain Stacy hissed angrily as the two where quickly on the road.
"Sir?" the sergeant asked in a confused tone.
"Since your involved, you deserve to know." Captain Stacy began as he took a deep breath before continuing. "Rumor has it that this store does more than just sell overpriced jewelry. The word on the street is that they also sell stolen jewelry on the side. We've been gathering evidence for a few months in the hopes of catching the operation red handed. But now this robbery is sure to put whoever is in charge on high alert–"
"Meaning we can't get close?" the sergeant asked his boss.
"Precisely. Whoever pulled off this ambitious heist just blew up months of work." Captain Stacy hissed angrily as suddenly a look of contemplation formed on his face, and the sergeant new that meant he had an idea...
-Later, Gene's Pawn Shop-
"Oh no, you cant just come barging in here." a middle aged man in his fifties said angrily as soon as Captain Stay and his sergeant entered into his pawn shop.
"This how you always treat your customers?" Captain Stacy asked in a sarcastic tone. "How long has it been Gene, for me it seems like yesterday that I was hauling you off the jail–"
"Shhh, keep your voice down." Gene hissed as he nervously looked around to make sure his other customers did not hear what the police captain had said. "It's been a slow month, and you'll scare away what business I do have." Gene hissed angrily. In response Captain Stacey reached into his police jacket and pulled out a newspaper, which he opened up and slapped down on the front desk.
"Read it Gene." Captain Stacy ordered. Gene quickly put on his reading glasses and proceeded to read the headline.
"I had nothing to do with this." Gene said after he head read the headline about the robbery from the previous day.
"I know you didn't." Captain Stacy replied quickly.
"Then why are you here?" Gene asked in a confused, yet still annoyed tone.
"I'm here because of your past dealings that you've chosen to run out of your shabby looking establishment–"
"I'm a legitimate business man now." Gene hissed angrily. "Get your facts straight–"
"You might be legitimate, now... but word is you still will listen to... outside offers on the side. Before you get angry, hear me out." Captain Stacy began calmly. "Whoever pulled off this robbery was smart enough to bypass levels of security equipment, and render armed guards unconscious with ease. However, unless whoever did this intends to keep all the jewels for themselves, they'll need a place to sell the jewelry to. That's where you come in." Captain Stacy paused again to take a breath as he reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet, and removed a business card. "You hear anything Gene, give me a call." Captain Stacy said as he and his sergeant turned to leave.
"Good riddance." Gene hissed as he was about to knock the card unto the floor.
"One last thing. If we catch you selling any of this jewelry, I'll put you away for years this time." Captain Stacy whispered as he and his sergeant excited this building, and with an angry sigh, Gene pocket the card instead of throwing it away.
-Later-
"Now we can start living a life of luxury." Angela said in a content tone as she and Avery could be found sorting the jewelry they had stolen.
"Almost, we still need to sell them first." Avery said, which earned an inquiring look from Angela.
"You got anything, or anyone in mind?" Angela asked her friend, which caused Avery to smile.
"I've got a contact who runs a pawn shop. He'll quickly pay top dollar for jewels of this caliber." Avery said with a big smile.
"Can we trust him?" Angela asked quickly.
"Gene hates the cops since he was put behind bars two years ago for fraud. No way in hell he'd snitch." Avery said in a confident tone.
"Get him on the line then, and let his know we have some grade A quality jewels ready to be sold for a fair price..."
-Later-
"Captain Stacy speaking." Stacy answered his cell phone.
"Captain, It's Gene. Listen, I just got off the phone with the individual who robbed the jewelry store–"
"You got a name?" Captain Stacy asked quickly.
"I got better than that, Captain, they want to meet me in two days time to sell the jewels..."
