I thought this would be a good Valentine's Day song if I can get it done within the month. Of course you guys, know I didn't but I finally did.

So without further ado, here is the next song-fic one shot. See if you can guess the song!

Nathan was sitting in his car. His car was parked against the curb of a quite street in Tree Hill, North Carolina. The sun had gone down about an hour ago and the night was starting to creep in and the last remaining light was disappearing. As soon as he parked he turned off the car and turned off the headlights but he couldn't make himself open the door and get out. He just couldn't do it yet. It had been a good ten minutes since he pulled up to this particular spot on this particular street.

The raven-haired young man looked to his passenger seat. There, he found a crystal vase with a dozen roses set inside. There was no water yet because he hadn't wanted it sloshing around and inadvertently soaking him as it spilled all over his front seat. Next to the vase was a small black velvet case. Inside the case was a modest diamond encased in a gold band.

This moment was a long time coming but for some reason, and he couldn't quite explain it, he was hesitating. He had already rehearsed what he was going to say and everything. It had taken him three days of barely any sleep to nail down his speech and he wasn't one for those big elaborate romantic gestures that all the girls were always fawning over. This was a big deal to him and he wanted it to be just right.

He could never tell what she was thinking. He was an open book and wore his emotions on his sleeve. She was the opposite. She was always so hard to read, like learning cursive for the first time. He did't know how she would react to his declaration tonight. He didn't even know if doing this was the right thing. He knew his feelings and he was all in. She, however, could be a completely different story. He just wanted to know if she was in or out. It was killing him not knowing.

...

A few months later, Nathan was sitting in his car again in the exact same spot on the same quiet street in Tree Hill, North Carolina. It was around the same time. He parked and thought about that day months ago that started out kind of like this one. He remembers holding both the vase and the velvet box in each of his hands. Even though the vase was obviously going to be heavier, the weight of the ring started to feel heavier and heavier in his hand. He had set the box down and left his car with just the flowers in his hand.

After that moment, he had taken the tiny little box with practically his whole life-savings in it back to his apartment and hidden it away for safe-keeping. He knew that all it would take was a moment. The right moment. The right moment when his fear whenever he picked up the case or opened it would turn to an unyielding faith. Why was he so afraid?

He is sitting at home one afternoon, with the ring in his hand when the thoughts start to invade his mind.

With that, he can't take it anymore. He just can't live holding it inside anymore. He had to do something about the feeling of guilt he constantly has underneath the surface. He felt like he was keeping something from her. And no matter what part of him was afraid, he knew he had to do something.

And that is just what he did. He had grabbed his keys and started to drive. He doesn't even think twice. He knows if she will accept it, he will willingly give her his heart. He closed his eyes after shutting off the engine and he didn't even hesitate as he opened the door to his car and got out.

He walked up to the front door of the small two-story house. This time he had the ring in his hand without the case. His heart raced as he rang the doorbell. She opened the door even before the jingle inside had finished.

She is smiling, even before she sees what's in his hands. And before he can speak, she takes his free hand in hers, "Wait."

She rubs circles using her thumb on his hand as she looks down at their entwined hands. Once she looks up again, she begins again. "Are you in this with me or not? I am all in. I think I've been in since the very beginning. I think since out first kiss." He chuckled, he felt the same. "I know it took some time for me to express this to you but this is me. This messy-bun, paint-streaked t's and holey jeans is all I have to give to you. Well, all of those things and much more, including my heart. So will you love me or let me down?"

He had no problem getting down on one knee after that.

AN: I know I haven't posted anything in a while, so this was me trying to get my creative juices flowing once again. I know I could have made this better (and longer- I know, I know, it's super short) but I just felt like I needed to write something, even if it wasn't the best. If you don't know it by now, you should know that I am a perfectionist when it comes to my writing.

Anyway, can anyone guess the song? It was playing on my weekly recommended songs playlist from Spotify and I thought it would make a great one shot. Please let me know what you thought by leaving a review!
