I flew slowly through the trees, taking in the sights and smells. I passed a durian tree, and a banana plant, and a carambola tree. And then I passed a, um, what was that fruit? I was positive I had memorized every fruit in the rain forest. This fruit was flat and thick, and was growing in the shape of an oval. It was as white as A RainWing egg in the middle, but as dark as a NightWing egg around the edges.
I was sure I had discovered a new fruit. I decided to ask Harmony later, as she too had memorized the fruits. But for now I called it the unity fruit, for it showed unity between all the dragons of the rainforest. Kind of like why my mother was called Harmony because she was the daughter of a RainWing and a NightWing.
I picked a sample, and continued my journey. But it was not long before I spotted the same fruit. And as I soared through the forest, there it was again, and again, and again!
What was going on? I stretched my mind, searching for the answer. But all I heard were thoughts from the patrols around the villages and a few stray dragons, thinking things like,'hmmm. I wonder whats for dinner?' and 'ohh, what a delicious mango,' and 'who's a cute sloth? Who is it, Corn Cob, who is it?' (I think that last one was not only being thought, but said as well.
I fluttered through the forest, now mentally counting the number of unity fruit plants. I noted that they had wide, circle leaves, that were blood red. Their stalks were a lighter strawberry red. And it's flowers were the yellow of parchment, and had ink black lines on them. I thought this was certainly unusual. Who had every heard of parchment-and-ink flowers? Bizarre.
I then decided that I would ask Hope about it, not my mother. She was a lovely, wise dragon, and I was sure she could answer my questions. Speaking of Hope, shouldn't I be at her house already? Uh oh. I was in an unfamiliar part of the rain forest.
I took in my surroundings. The area was blackened and melting. The patch of ground I was in was obviously burnt out. There were strange symbols scratched into the ashes. I cast my mind like a net, hoping for a signal of some sort, that I was near a dragon, but no thoughts came. I was far away from anyone. A coal coloured bird-a crow?- flapped down through the branches.
Strange. There were no crows in the rain forest. Only parrots and toucans, and hummingbirds. And wompoo fruit doves. And cassowaries. And honeyeaters and spotted catbirds and chowchillas and . . .well, you get the idea.
I was astounded. I mean, life as a mother-disobeying princess was extraordinary enough, but a mother-disobeying princess, and now this? I know, I keep on asking now this? Now this? but I just want to explain how mysteriously horrid this this whole thing is.
But then I brought y ind back down to Pyrhhia. I was unable to find my way. I was unaware of my surroundings.
There's only one definition for that; lost.
