HypernovaSonic- It really shouldn't take me almost three years to write this story, but something really put me off of it for quite a few months. So sorry to anyone who was looking forward to more of this, next chapter's just gonna be a quick one to finish things off.
I awoke, still on Amy's couch. The empty space beside me echoed by how I was left feeling. The window nearby showed me that the sun had nearly completely disappeared below the horizon. I laughed slightly, shocked at my own ability to waste away a day. I stood up, eventually finding my way to Amy's kitchen, where she was standing by the stove.
Taking a step into the room caught her attention, causing her to quickly turn in my direction. "Hey there," I said simply. "What's going on here?"
"Hi Shadow," she returned the greeting. "I just wanted to make us something for dinner, but I've got nothing I can think of." She looked defeated, hanging her head low as she leaned against the stove.
Thinking about food suddenly reminded me of an interaction from the day before. "Have you considered chili dogs, maybe?" I offered.
Amy let out a light giggle. "You've been around Sonic too much recently," she said jokingly.
"He's trying to make me more like him, probably the first step in some wild scheme," I joked along, and we laughed together.
"Well luckily for you, and 'Sonic's scheme,' I've got the stuff to make some chili dogs," Amy confirmed. A short time later, the food was all done and we were at the table, each with a chili dog in hand. I took a bite, a unique sensation hitting my taste buds.
"You know, I don't think I would like this if it wasn't made by you," I admitted.
"I'm sorry to disappoint," Amy responded.
"It's not awful by any means," I assured her. "You just definitely won't catch me eating these often." I took another bite, seeing Amy take one of her own.
"I think I only ever ate these because Sonic did," she mentioned. "I've really grown to like them, though." I felt some discomfort as she alluded to her obsession with the blue hedgehog, but I quickly made myself force the thought away, no need to ruin another moment. Amy suddenly appeared to have almost finished her chili dog, leaving me to wonder for how long that thought took hold of me. I took another bite, a little too quickly as I tried to make it look casual.
"Thanks for this," I said, hoping she hadn't noticed.
"It's no problem," Amy replied enthusiastically. "I can imagine you probably have better dinners than this often, with your fancy government job."
"Not really," I corrected, thinking back on my lack of dinners over the past three nights. "No real need for it."
Amy let out a light sigh, "Why did I think you'd say something like that?" I raised an eyebrow at the question. "Of course you would keep it simple, you're so mindful that way," she explained. I nodded, just happy she assumed I was actually eating. Amy finished her chili dog only a few moments before I finished mine. As I finished, I looked at her, getting a warm, loving look back.
I began to lean in, inviting her to kiss me, only for her to push me back. "Not so fast, chili breath," she said.
"We literally just ate the same thing," I argued. We both chuckled at the minor conflict before leaning in, sharing a kiss for a short moment. Pulling away, I thought about how late it was. "There's no way I'm getting to sleep tonight," I mentioned. Amy seemed to think about it for a moment, quickly reaching a conclusion.
"We could go for a run," she suggested. "Tire yourself out by carrying me around," she then added with a giggle.
"Alright," I answered, standing up and taking her hand. "Let's go."
"Well I was just playing around, Shadow. You don't have to carry me," Amy said as I helped her to her feet. I then responded by picking her up, holding her in my arms.
"It doesn't have to be a joke," I explained, seeing Amy's face go red.
"I-I mean..." Amy mumbled as she diverted her gaze. "I... guess that we could." We smiled at each other as I carried her over to the door, opening it and stepping out into the late evening air. "Let's go!" the girl in my arms said, suddenly exploding with enthusiasm. I followed her words as I took off down the street, slowly gaining speed.
It wasn't long before the surrounding neighborhood began to blur, leaving the only things to focus on being the road ahead, and her face. I looked down to see her still smiling at me, a beautiful excitement shining in her eyes. She pulled herself closer, laying her head against me as she turned her attention forward. "Should I slow down?" I asked her. "Don't want to leave you dizzy like last time."
"I don't care!" Amy said excitedly. "Just don't let me fall off my feet!" I nodded at the response, taking a turn off of the road before entering the nearby woods. The sunlight had faded, leaving us with beams of moonlight broken up by the branches overhead. The small bits of light allowed me to easily pass through the trees as Amy and I took in the beautiful scenery.
We soon passed through into a large clearing, a small lake ahead. I smirked as I looked down at Amy to see what she was thinking. "No way you're actually gonna-" she was cut off as we began gliding across the water. I heard her laugh joyously as water could be heard being shot up behind us. I took a wide turn, hoping to spend as long as I could on that lake. "Better not get me wet!" Amy ordered, giggling to herself as she did.
After a few turns, I sped off of the water, slowing down as we reached land. I turned around, sitting down with Amy as we looked out at the lake, glistening with glamorous moonlight. "Thank you, this is wonderful" Amy said. I felt my heart speed up for a moment with her words, so relaxed to know she was happy. "I love you," she added.
"I love you too," I responded, leaning down slightly to kiss the top of her head. "You know, and sorry to bring him up again, but Sonic had mentioned how running helped him clear his head, and I didn't know what that meant until now."
"That's amazing, Shadow," Amy responded. "It's great to hear that you're finding more ways to be happy."
"I don't think I ever really ran just for the sake of running," I said, lost in thought. "I've always been running from something, to something, against someone..." I scoffed at myself, honestly amazed by the thought. "Who would've known listening to the one guy I didn't want to hear a word from would've helped me so much?"
"Either way, I'm totally convinced about this scheme Sonic's planning now," Amy joked, causing me to break into a fit of laughter. "Wow, I don't think I've ever made you make that sound before," Amy commented.
"You might be one of the only ones who could do that to me," I replied. "Hell, I don't think I've laughed like that since..." I fell silent, memories of my long lost life invading my mind again.
Amy obviously took quick notice of this. "You want to keep running?" she asked.
"No," I answered, shaking my head. "I can run when it doesn't matter, but I feel like I can't just keep running even when it does." The girl sitting in my lap nodded in response, leaning her head against my chest.
"Just remember that I love you," Amy said.
I nodded in response. "I don't think you need the same reminder from me," I added.
"It would be nice to hear, though."
"Alright, I love you." She smiled as her eyelids slowly fell. Suddenly, a yawn escaped my mouth. "You were right about this wearing me out."
"Wanna head back to my place?" Amy asked.
"Yeah sure, I'll drop you off and head back home," I responded.
Amy pulled back to look at me with a confused expression, "You're... not actually that oblivious, are you?"
"Wha- Oh! You were inviting me to stay the night!" I reacted, pretending the realization was a surprise.
"No duh, Shadow," Amy said, lightly giggling at me.
"Alright, here we go," I said, lifting the pink girl off of the ground and speeding off. We arrived at her door a short time later, and I set her down only for her to once again stagger slightly, only without falling into my arms this time. She opened the door and took my hand, leading me inside and up a set of stairs, stopping at a door on the second floor.
"Okay... for the record," Amy started, seemingly growing embarrassed. "I haven't renovated my room in years." With that said, she slowly opened the door, turning on the light to reveal a very pink room. The walls, the bedding, the mirror, the dresser, the nightstand and the lamp sitting on it, it was all pink. I snickered slightly as I took it in, receiving a soft punch on the shoulder from the room-matching girl beside me. "Cut that out," she demanded.
"I'm sorry," I said. "It's cute, just not entirely expected, especially not with the queen size bed."
"At least we know we'll have enough room for both of us," Amy pointed out. She then slipped off her boots, climbing under the covers before throwing her dress off to the side. A light blush spread across my face, which she clearly noticed. "What? Not like there's any harm if you can't see me." As she took off her hairband and placed it on her nightstand, she motioned for me to join her, which I wasted no time doing. "Besides, you're gonna be in bed with me anyway," she added.
Sliding under the blanket, I took notice of its softness, not being quite the quality I had at home, but still wonderful nonetheless. My eyes met Amy's as we laid next to each other, and I felt an uncontrollable smile overtake my face as I became lost in her emerald eyes. She took hold of me, pulling me closer to her as we began to kiss. "I love you so much..." I whispered to her.
"I love you too," she quietly said back before returning to the kiss. I felt myself nearly at the point of tears as we laid in each other's arms, the comfort of her touch almost overwhelming. It must have been hours that the two of us laid there, enjoying the presence of one another, our love growing each moment. By the time I had finally gotten to sleep, it felt as if morning had arrived in an instant, but I felt as if it was worth it. My feelings were validated as I took in the sight of my love, Amy Rose, sleeping next to me.
The morning sun was already high in the sky when I awoke, but I wasn't planning to get up early anyway. I kissed Amy on her forehead, causing her to gently stir. "Good morning, my rose," I greeted her, watching a wide smile spread across her face. "Sleep well?"
"Mhm," she replied simply. "How about you?"
"Well enough," I answered. "Waking up next to you is all I need." She giggled at my words, that smile never leaving her face. "Well, guess we have a whole day to waste before that housewarming party," I then said.
"Guess so," Amy agreed. "But... how about we wait a few more minutes before we get started?" she asked.
"I would love nothing more," I said as I pulled her in close and we kissed once again.
"I could probably just stay here all day," Amy expressed her comfort.
"We've still got a few hours," I assured, ready to spend those hours simply in bed with the beautiful pink hedgehog in my arms. It felt as if nothing could bring me down from this incredible high, and it was all thanks to her, my rose.
