Okay so I had this really cute little three shot idea of moments of them as kids hanging out during the summer. This is the first part but after writing it, I got a bunch of ideas and think it might be it's own little story? Maybe? I don't know just a crazy idea.
Also, if you have any possible chapters for this story, I would love to hear it! One shots are hard and suggestions make it so much easier.
Enjoy!
Summer vacation had arrived!
Jo was so excited for her freshman year of high school to be over. Being fifteen was rough to say the least. After almost an entire year of not having any friends, she was looking forward to hanging out with Dean all summer. John had called the week prior and said he may have to drop the boys off for a few weeks while he chased whatever new demon lead he had.
Ellen picked Jo up from school that day and they went to the store to get some new movies and games for the teenagers to entertain themselves with. When they went home, she helped Bobby make up the bunk beds in the guest room they secretly reserved specifically for the boys. It came in handy with how often they visited.
And the next morning, the Winchesters rolled into town with Dean behind the wheel.
Dean was now sixteen but not exactly driving legally. John was too busy to take him to get his actual license, but he did make a fake one for instances when Dean had to drive. Bobby secretly made a promise to fix all of that. No way was he gonna allow the risk of Dean getting arrested for driving due to John's neglect. Especially if Dean was with Sam.
Sam had just turned twelve and God was he starting to act like it. Jo was surprised when he didn't immediately jump out of the car while it was still in motion screaming and jumping into her arms to greet her. He used to be the cutest little kid but watching him slowly climb out of the backseat, almost like he was trying to act cool like Dean, made Jo realize how long it had truly been since she last saw the boys.
That first night was a night of too much pizza and endless hours of board games around the tiny table in the kitchen. Now that it was summer, staying up until midnight wasn't so much a big deal. Bobby and Ellen retired to their bedroom, after hugging each of the kids goodnight. They made sure to treat the boys as equally as they treated Jo when they came to stay. One of the rare times they got to actually have a normal home life with actual parents.
And Jo got to experience actual siblings.
She was in the bathroom getting ready for bed when Dean came in, now towering over her. They usually were the same height and for years they would pass as twins. As Jo stood in front of the mirror beginning to french braid her hair, Dean stood behind her brushing his teeth.
"You forgot a section," he mumbled, holding the toothbrush in his mouth.
"I did not."
Dean quickly reached out and ran a finger through her hair, catching it on a strand and pulling it loose.
"You asshole!" Jo said, reaching back and lightly punching him in the stomach.
Dean just laughed, still holding the toothbrush in his mouth.
"Now I have to start over," she whined, undoing the last couple sections of braid.
"Wait before you do, move over."
"No."
"Jo, I have to spit this out."
"That sounds like a you problem."
"How about I make it a you problem and spit on your neck?"
Jo finished up her braid as Dean rinsed his mouth out.
"Can you hand me a hair tie?"
Dean opened one of the drawers on the bathroom counter and fished out a hair tie, which he handed to Jo.
"What is this?"
In his hand he proudly held up a tampon.
"Dean!" Jo cried, trying to grab it and take it back from him. Dean simply held his arm up high so Jo couldn't reach it.
"Oh man is this what those things actually look like?" he asked, starting to open up the wrapper and pulling it out. "Wait, how does this work?"
"None of your business!" Jo hissed, snatching the unwrapped tampon from his hand and quickly throwing it back into the drawer. "God I forgot how much of an annoying perv you are."
"Are you two almost done?" a very tired Sam asked, standing in the doorway of the bathroom. "I have to go."
"Almost," Jo told him. "Dean still has a little something."
"What?" he asked, moving his face closer to the mirror to get a better look. "Where?"
"Right… there!" Jo said, as she smacked her hand on his forehead, leaving behind a big goop of body lotion on his face.
"I'm gonna kill you!" he said, chasing her out of the bathroom down the hall to her bedroom.
Jo luckily was faster than Dean and got to her room first, slamming the door in his face before he could come in.
"Hey Jooooooo?" Dean sang on the other side of the door.
"Jo isn't here right now! Please leave a message after the beep!"
"Come on out! I just wanna talk!"
"I so don't believe you right now."
They both laughed at the childish tease exchange game they currently had going. Jo's heart ached. She missed this so much. It had been a really rough year for her and she needed this so badly. All the kids at school bullied her for being different. The only evidence they needed was that her dad died in a 'mysterious accident' and now she lived at a junkyard on the outskirts of town that always seemed to attract weird visitors.
"Jo?" Dean asked gently, breaking her from her thoughts. "Hey, you alright?"
Jo slowly opened the bedroom door and wrapped her arms around his waist.
"I just really freaking missed you."
"OOOOO!" came a voice from behind them. They turned around to see Sam just as he walked out of the bathroom. "Jo and Dean sitting in a tree-"
"You finish that and I will pummel you!" Dean threatened.
"K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" Sam squealed, ducking into the boys' bedroom. Dean followed through on his promise. He picked Sam up on his side and chucked him onto the bed on the lower bunk.
"Wanna say it again shrimp?" Dean teased, tickling Sam on his stomach.
Jo stood in the doorway smiling. Sam was curled in a ball on his side laughing so hard he couldn't breathe.
"Dean… stop… please!"
"What's the magic word?"
"Bobby!" Sam called out. Dean made a buzzer noise.
"Wrong answer!"
"What the hell are you three doing still up?" Bobby asked, showing up in the doorway of the boys' room. "Why the hell do you still have so much energy?"
"I told you not to let Sam have so much soda," Ellen said, showing up behind him. "Alright, all of you! To your respective bedrooms!"
All three of them began to try to argue back but clearly lost the battle.
Bobby went downstairs to make sure everything was locked up, salt was in place, and sigils were still properly drawn.
Ellen started with the boys. Sam climbed up the ladder to the top bunk and Dean sat down on the bottom.
"Goodnight Sammy," she said, kissing him on his forehead. Hey, he may be twelve, but she still liked to coddle him. And he still secretly liked it.
"Not too late Dean," she threw over her shoulder as she got up to leave the room. Dean she would never smother unless he really needed it.
"Night Ellen," they said in unison as she hit the light switch and closed the door.
She made her way towards Jo's room, where she found Jo already tucked in bed.
"They're really staying for the whole summer?" she asked, trying not to let too much of her excitement show.
"They are. How Bobby talked John into it, I'll never know."
"Night Mom."
"Goodnight baby," she said, reaching up for Jo's lamp and turning it off. "Three teenagers for an entire summer? What could go wrong?"
