Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. J. K. Rowling does. Thanks to those who reviewed. Anyway, here's chapter 5.
Harry woke up, dressed and went down to breakfast with Terry. He was greeted by many stares which annoyed Harry greatly. He picked up some toast and began to eat, looking at his schedule. They had Charms first with their Head of House, Professor Flitwick. They had twenty minutes left. Just then the boy who had ran away from him at the train approached him. He had a gangly look, with ginger hair and freckles around his face.
"Err, hi, I'm R-on Wea-sl-ey," said the boy, stuttering the words.
"What do you want, " sighed Harry.
"Erm, well Harry, can I call you Harry? I was wondering whether you would like to err walk err with err me to err charms?" He looked at Harry hopefully. Harry knew that this Ron only wanted to walk with Harry Potter, the boy who lived.
"Sorry, no," said Harry. The boy walked back towards the Gryffindor table, disappointed.
"Must be annoying, having fame you don't want," remarked Terry.
"Yeah," said Harry. "Anyway, we don't want to be late for charms, come on." They got up and made their way to the Charms classroom. Professor Flitwick started off by explaining what Charms was and made a desk zoom above them. Then, they proceeded to practice the levitation Charm, Wingardium Leviosa. Harry found this very easy. He had read all the first year books and was reading some of the second year books. Harry and Hermione each earned 5 points apiece for mastering the charm. They were the only ones who had managed to do it. The boy Ron made snarky comments about Hermione which caused her to rush out the classroom, tears streaming down her cheeks. Hermione didn't turn up for Transfiguration where they turned matchsticks into needles. Harry seemed to be a natural at both subjects. They had lunch at the Great Hall. After that, they went down for flying. Halfway through the lesson, a boy named Neville Longbottom broke his wrist. He was carried of to the Hospital Wing by the flying instructor, Madam Hooch. Neville had dropped a small glass ball which the pale faced boy Malfoy picked up.
"Itty bitty Neville," said Malfoy. "Clumsy isn't the squib, Potter!"
"No," said Harry coldly. Malfoy seemed to have notice Harry's tone.
"Never knew you liked crybabies, Potter," He sneered. The whole class was watching.
"Give it back," said Harry, coldly.
"I'll think I'll throw it into the sky," said Malfoy and tossed the ball high into the air. As though in slow motion Harry saw the ball rise and fall. Without thinking, he grabbed a broomstick and dived for the ball, skimming the ground as he caught it. McGonagall had seen. She dragged Harry up to her office to tell her that he had been made Seeker. Oliver Wood, the caption, had a very long talk with Harry about Quidditch.
Harry's least favorite class was Snape's. He taught potions. Harry was very good at the subject but he hated Snape's taunts at him. When he had first arrived he had bombarded him with questions that would have probably come up in fifth year. Defense Against the Dark Arts was a joke. Professor Quirrell, kept recounting his Vampire adventures. Harry suspected they weren't true at all. Harry also thought there was a funny smell around him. Overall, he was enjoying his time at Hogwarts immensely.
Harry, Terry came from the dungeons to the Halloween. They had been doing a shrinking potion and Snape had given Harry a detention for not corking his bottle tight enough. They entered the Great Hall. Carved pumpkins were decorated around the Hall and real bats were swooping about. Harry and Terry dived in with great gusto into a pumpkin pie. Unfortunately, Harry's detention was in the middle of the Halloween feast so he sadly went down towards Snape's dungeon where he was instructed to scrub the floor. Moments later after Harry went down, Professor Quirrell came bursting in saying, "Troll! In the dungeons! Thought you ought to know." He then fainted.
"Prefects!" boomed Dumbledore, "Lead your students to your common rooms!"
"Our common room is in the dungeons!" shrieked a Slytherin girl, Pansy Parkinson. Dumbledore paid no attention. Terry slipped out and hurried towards the dungeons, intent on warning Harry.
Meanwhile Harry was scrubbing the floors with a charm he had found. Just then he heard a rumbling noise. Hope its not an earthquake, thought Harry. The door was blasted apart and suddenly a huge creature with a club lumbered in. It was a troll. It was an ugly gray color, though ten times as big as Harry. The troll swung the bat at Harry. Knowing he had moments before he was turned to gloop he shouted, "Lumos Maxima!" A dazzling beam as bright as the sun erupted from Harry's wand and immediately blinded the troll. The troll let out a roar of agony just as a two figures came sprinting down the hall. Terry and Hermione burst in to see a very angry troll swinging a club. Terry did something very brave and stupid. He took running leap and stuck his wand up a troll. Even a troll would notice if it had a stick prodded up its nose. The troll roared and looked around. "Expelliarmus!" Harry shouted and Terry was dropped. The troll got thrown back. It lumbered up again, advancing upon them.
"Engorgio!" Hermione shrieked and they dived behind a enlarged desk full of shrinking solutions. The troll swung at the desk and it splintered it's legs rolling away. The shrinking solution all crashed and burst open onto the troll. The moment it touched the troll it began to get smaller and smaller till the troll was the size of a shoe.
"Are you okay?" Harry asked the other two but before they could answer three people sprinted into the destroyed classroom.
"Stupefy!" bellowed Snape, jabbing his wand wildly. Harry reacted instinctively. A shield charm he had been practising sprung out and deflected it straight at Snape and he crumpled, unconscious. The teachers, Professor Dumbeldore, McGonagall and Flitwick all lowered their wands and looked furiously at them.
"What do you think you are doing?" screeched McGonagall. Flitwick and Dumbledore looked at the now tiny troll. "Battling a mountain troll without any help from the teachers! Ridiculous! Its a wonder you're alive!"
"Please Professor, they were looking for me," said Hermione quietly. Harry and Terry looked astonished but hid it. "Harry was serving a detention and Terry came to help him when they saw me taking on a mountain troll because I've read about them and thought I could defeat one." Professor Flitwick squeaked," Is this true?" Harry and Terry all nodded. They explained how they battled the mountain troll.
"20 points to you each for some very quick thinking," said Flitwick beaming. "Now hurry back to to your common room. We will fix everything." They nodded and hurried upstairs to their common room.
"Thanks," they all said awkwardly and went up to their dormitories. From that day on, Hermione Granger become their friend.
