The Avengers had been briefed on their mission by Fury.
Steve had gotten used to a lot of off things in this 70-years later world.
Aliens, Norse Gods, , the Internet, Non-block shaped phones... Everything he would have thought impossible in World War II.
But three maybe-alien not aging teenagers definitely took first place in weird things about this time.
Fury had said they were a danger that needed to be contained or controlled.
Steve sometimes worried that power was going to Fury's head. He shouldn't be talking about people like they were objects, immortal or not.
He remembered what he said to Fury on the helicarrier.
I was wrong director. This world hasn't changed a bit.
Steve thought Fury proved his innocence and want to help people, but sometimes he had moments of doubt.
He brushed this aside.
He was a soldier. A superior gave him an order.
He would follow it.
Percy had been made God of Heroes.
Thalia had been made Goddess of Hunters
Nico had been made God of Skeletons.
These three gods walked down the busy streets of New York.
They were walking to the camp of the Protectors (explained in next chapter.)
The cousins were only a couple blocks away, when a voice said "Stop."
They stopped, rolling their eyes in annoyance, and turned.
And promptly burst out laughing.
"AH-w-who-HAHAHAH-are-HA HA-you?" Thalia let out a fresh burst of laughter at the end of this sentence.
Standing there, were-
A ridiculous looking man in Red, White, and Blue suit. (The main cause of Thalia's laughter.)
A red-head in a tight catsuit who clearly found herself intimidating. (Do you really think you scare me?)
A man in a red and gold metal suit, with the helmet looking like a frowny face. (Thalia had to admit a smile probably would be creepy.)
A dude with a bow and quiver. (He actually looked normal. Had a cool suit. Looked like a master with that bow.)
And a dude with a cape and a big hammer. (Does mother know you weareth her drapes?)
(Bruce decided to sit this one out because he thought the Hulk may do too much damage.)
The group looked annoyed.
Frowny-Face spoke up.
"Ah, I know your joking. No one doesn't know us."
He was arrogant. Thalia could easily tell. As well as annoying.
Nico rolled his eyes. "Nope, really don't. Who are you and why should we care?"
"We're the Avengers." American Flag spoke up.
"The who?" Percy, Thalia, and Nico asked with confused expressions.
"You know." Frowny-Face waved a hand lazily. "Earth's mightiest heroes."
Thalia frowned. How dare these mortals think so highly of themselves. Even the newest recruits of the Hunters of Artemis probably could take one of these people in a fight.
And they dishonored the memory of all the dead Hunters and Demigods who were real heroes.
Frowny-Face could never know the heart-wrenching mental guilt and agony one goes through when they lose someone they love.
Thalia knew this well.
As did Percy and Nico.
"Don't think we've heard or you." Percy said. "We'll be going now."
The redhead smirked. (Thalia didn't like her,) and archer-dude shot an arrow at Percy's arm.
It bounced right off, and Thalia loved the red-heads expression.
All Hades broke loose.
Hammer-guy did a dramatic lightning buildup. Thalia easily banished the lightning, and swung her foot at the side of his head, knocking him to the ground. She hit him with a lightning bolt, and he fell unconscious.
The red-head approached her.
Thalia grinned.
Red started with a roundhouse kick at Thalia's chest. Thalia caught the kick, and flipped Red over. She tried to hold her down, but Red rolled out from under her. Thalia grabbed her.
A gun fell out of Reds pocket.
There was a brief tussle for it, but Thalia got the upper hand, and used the butt of the gun to knock Red out.
She felt a brief moment of satisfaction, before focusing on the fight.
Thalia saw Frowny-Face pursuing Nico from the air.
Thalia flew into the air, and grabbed the legs of the metal suit. It was an impressive invention for a mortal, looked like something Leo would make. She dragged Frowny-Face down to a height where falling wouldn't kill or fatally injure you, and used electricity to fry the wiring of the suit (Making sure the person inside wasn't harmed.)
Frowny-Face plummeted a few feet, crashing into the ground. He lay there, trapped in the suit.
Percy had already taken care of American Flag and Nico had knocked out Archer-Dude.
The three looked around at the ridiculously dressed people. There weren't any mortals crowding the scene, thanks to the mist.
"That was fun!"
Fury practically had steam coming out of his ears.
He knew the "teens" were powerful, but he never guessed they would be able to defeat the Avengers.
AND THEY DID IT EASILY! IT WAS INSULTING!
Fury took a deep breath, and began to make a plan.
