Chapter Five: A Full Moon, A Full Heart

With the Full Moon approaching Remus was feeling a bit irritated as they left the potions classroom.

"Remus, a moment please" Daphne said and all marauders turned around, but that didn't phase her in the least

She handed him a potion

"What's this?" Remus said looking at her

"It's a potion that will help your night in a few days" she said gently, smiling at him and Remus paled staring at her while Sirius and James gathered protectively around him

"Are you going to take it or not" Daphne said looking at them and Remus reached out a shaking hand

"What does it do?" Sirius asked sharply staring at the potions professor

"Allows him to retain his human mind" she said brightly then spun and left the classroom

Remus stared at the potion in his hand

Hogwarts was all a-buzz the next morning as everyone compared stories of the imperius curse in their lesson on Friday. Professor Bolden had also introduced Occlumency, something which James and Sirius both knew, Remus was a natural at, but Lily had to learn

Remus was able to fight it the best, especially this close to the full moon and the boy didn't really freak out when Harry made an offhand comment about it when they left -his wife did know, why wouldn't he

Later that night when the Marauders were getting ready to sneak out, Lily was waiting for them at the entrance hall

"I completed it' she said simply, falling into stride next to them and James felt his heart surge at the gesture -he knew she had been friend with Remus for a few years now

Remus was staring at the potion in his hands as his friends joined them

"What's that" Lily said curiously

"Daphne gave it to me" Remus said looking up at her and Lily was startled to see the hope shining in his eyes "she said it would allow me to maintain control" he said continuing his staring contest with the vial of grey liquid

Lily nodded and smiled "well I hope it does just that" she said gently and Remus smiled weakly at her

An hour later, they are all shocked when Remus not only seemed able to retain his mind, but he was a wolf, instead of a werewolf. He was much less aggressive and happy to simply play. They dared to go out into the forest that night and James was even able to enjoy time with Lily in their forms, although he had a much harder time hiding his arousal when his mind wandered and he cursed his best friend as he could swear he heard Sirius barking in laughter at him

They were deep in the forest when Sirius' ears perked up and he let out a growl, while Moony seemed to whine in confusion

James trotted over to where they were looking to see a huge Black lion with startling green eyes, that instantly reminded James of Lily

The lion huffed, moving close to the ground and rolling over playfully

Sirius was still tense in anticipation, but remus whined again and James could sense something was really confusing him

The lion playfully clubbed Padfoot in the face and Sirius barked with a counterattack and soon the lion had joined the fray
