A/N: What's up darlins, it's me again! Finally I know right!? But hey this is the longest chapter yet get excited YAY! I enjoyed writing this chapter and I really hope ya'll like it! If you can't tell I finished writing this at like 3 in the morning so i;m a bit weird right now but don't let that deter you from reading this new chapter. Have fun, and until the end my dear readers.(on a side note I only made Jaune so tall because I wanted him to be the tallest, and Yatsuhashi is fucking 7ft so whatever. let's just say Jaune is now 6'5 and call it good? I'll change it in past chapters later when I feel like it. oh and I'm gonna also change the . I.B.S to the I.C.B.S same name I just added an C.
Jaune was worried, He looked down at the grades for his first years. They were all doing well but they would soon hit the hard stuff and Jaune wasn't sure how they would be able to handle it.
His other classes were making milestones with how fast they picked up everything, it was as if before he came they had all the knowledge to do well, just not the right teacher. And Jaune trying to be as humble as possible, was absolutely sure he was the right teacher. But this week was going to be a fun one.
This was test week for his advanced combat classes, all of them. He had been planning this test for the past week and had had it approved by Ozpin himself, this morning he packed up what he needed, left his lesson plans for the subs and took an airship to his testing ground. He had three tests to give, one for the 4th years, one for the 2nd and 3rd years, and the longest one for the first years. All he could do was chuckle to himself as he jumped onto the airship
Two days had passed since Doctor Arc had left and to be honest it was stressing Pyrrha out, the subs for his classes were professor Ozpin for Dust chemistry and Miss Goodwitch for Advanced combat.
All Ozpin did was work on his computer while he showed videos of Doctor Arc teaching. And combat class was somehow less brutal under Miss Goodwitch than with Doctor Arc, but of course everyone by now heard or had seen the video of their duel and understood a little better. But the previous day they were told to pack enough essentials for three days and bring them to the advanced combat room today. In addition they were told to show up to class in full combat gear and to bring everything they would need for maintaining their weapons and ammunition if needed.
"Do you have any idea what we are doing?" Jane asked her partner as they carried what they needed to the classroom where they found Miss Goodwhitch waiting from them.
"Hello students," She greets taking a sip of her tea,
"Hello professor," Jane says with her usual cheery smile. "Do you know what we are doing here?"
"I'm afraid I don't, I was just to wait till you all gather then give you some further instruction." she replies with a hint of a smile. In truth, Miss Goodwhitch knows exactly what's going on, but finds it more entertaining not to give any hints away.
"Oh my gosh are we going camping!" Ruby says excitedly, rushing up behind Jane and wrapping her arms around the taller blond girl. "Hi Jane," she adds.
"Hi Ruby," Jane says with a laugh, the two have gotten rather close even if they are on different teams. "No I don't think we're going camping," she laughs when a pout comes across the younger girl's face.
"Hi Pyrrha," Ruby says with a smile to her fellow leader.
"Hello Ruby," Pyrrha says offering a smile of her own, "Do you know anything about this?" she asks
"Nope, you don't think Dr, Arc is sick do you?" a worried look spreading on her face
"No I doubt it, my brother is a hunter, a litte sickness wouldn't stop him from working," Jane pipes up from under ruby,
"Ruby, why are you hanging off Jane?" Weiss says walking up to the group greeting Pyrrha and Jane also
"Because we're friends," she says, putting her face against Jane's, Jane just smiles and nods, enjoying the reaper girl's antics.
"Even so it's rude to hang off someone else like that." she say with a huff,
"Aww is Weiss jealous?" Yang says coming up behind wrapping her arm around Weiss, Bake following closely behind.
"I'm not jealous!" Weiss defends, "I'm just trying to defend our team image."
"What team image?" Blake asks with a slight smile.
"I-I," Weiss starts before she simply turns and walks away. The other girls just laugh
"Where are Ren and Nora?" Ruby asks, still piggybacking on Jane, both Pyrrha and Jane grimace a little.
"Well, it's Ren's job to wake her up…" Jane starts
"Never again." Pyrrha says with a slightly fearful look on her face,
"What happened?" blake asks,
"... We don't talk about the… incident" they say in unison
"HIIIII" Nora says, bounding up with an exhausted looking ren behind her. Both Pyrrha and Jane let out small eeps. "What did I miss!" she asks excitedly
"Not my head," Ren says quietly, only Blake being able to hear.
"Not much, we were just waiting for our instructions here." Yang offers.
"Oh cool, what are we doing today? Suplexing Ursa? Smashing Beowolves? Riding Nevermore?" she asks, almost shaking with excitement.
"Nora, I don't think it will be any of those things," Jane says
"Awww, that's no fun." she whines,
"Nora, I don't think this is supposed to be fun," Ren says gently.
"Yeah Nora, I can only guess this is a survival test or something boring like that." Jane says
"Can't you already suplex Uras?" Pyrrha ads to Ruby, Yang, and Blake's surprise.
"Yep yep! But I was hoping the Doc could teach me how to do it better." she says happily.
"You can Suplex a Ursa!?" Yang yells
"Oh? Isn't that normal?" Nora says looking at Yang like she grew a second head.
"NO it isn't normal! It's amazing!" Ruby adds
"Oh shucks, it's nothing too hard, you just grab their neck and try not to break em, before they hit the ground." she says almost shyly
"Remind me never to make Nora angry," Ruby whispers in Jane's ear, making her laugh.
"Okay students!" Glynda says loudly addressing the now full class. "Grab your things and head to the docking station, there you will be taken to Doctor Arc where you will be taking a test of sorts."
The students of Advanced combat grab their things and do as told, they are filed onto the airships and taken off, Ruby, Pyrrha, and Jane all talk together, Nora napped leaning against Ren who like Blake was silently reading.
Yang was listening to music sharing her earbud with Weiss who just looked confused by the music coursing through her head. The ride was rather long but everyone was still entertained for the most part. When the air ship started its descent a few students realized something they were in the middle of nowhere. Glynda ushered the children off the airship and they passed tired and beaten looking 2nd and 3rd years boarding the airship. One of them Ruby recognized as Coco turned to her and said as she passed "he's a monster,"
They stepped off the airship and there stood Doctor Arc, dressed in full combat gear, some light stubble and a grin on his face as he waved goodbye to his last class. Glynda walked up to him with a smile.
"How is it going Jaune?"
"Oh! It's wonderful, I almost feel bad how much I'm enjoying this."
"Should I be concerned with the condition of the 2nd and 3rd years? It seems you were holding back a little."
"Well they are not at the 4rth year level so I was holding back a bit, even with the fourth years I was holding back but they did take a beating didn't they?" he chuckles.
"Here are the medical supplies you requested, Oh and before I leave, Ozpin wanted me to tell you to come to his office on your return, We have something important to discuss with you."
"Will do, please have a safe trip back," he says nodding, telling she was serious about what she said.
Jaune takes the box of medical supplies and places it in the clearing with the rest of the 1rst years things, the airship takes off and before they know it, it is out of sight. With a smile he turns around to face his slightly confused class.
"Hello, it's nice to see your all doing well," he starts geeting them "welcome to your testing grounds!" all of them look slightly confused
"Sir," Weiss says holding her hand up.
"Yes Miss Schnee," he says, taking out one of his revolvers and loading while he listens.
"Is this a nature survival test?" she asks confused why they would have one in a class entitled advanced combat.
"Oh no it's nothing so easy."
"What do you mean nothing so easy?" Jane asks, concerned.
"I mean why would you have a survival test in a combat class, no this will be significantly harder than that. "
"Are we killing grimm?" Ruby asks
"Wrong again, This ladies and gentlemen is called a hunting exercise. A test of my own making. The goal here is to get a feeling for a field hunting experience. In your case it will last three days.
Now here is the Idea, I will be hunting all of you by myself." he says the class is mildly shocked.
"You will have one hour to go into the forest and hide. Now here is one of the conditions, you will not have your usual teams or even usual partners. I will assign you a partner and you will work with them to get through this test. This is to help teach you to be able to work with others rather than just your team members, as you may not always have them with you. The goals are A, evade me the entire time for 95% credit, B let me find and defeat you for a zero credit, C if I find you but you get away or get my Aura at least a quarter of the way down you get full credit, and D if you hunt me and get my Aura a quarter of the way down you get 120% credit." he lists off some of the rules and the students look a little overwhelmed. "One last condition, all of your stuff stays here in my basecamp, so does all the other supplies such as food, if you want it you have to steal it from me, and if you are so unlucky to be caught prepare for a fight." he says smiling
"Sir what about grimm?" one studant asks
"What about them? If you find the rare grimm, kill it. But don't stress about it too much. These woods don't have many of them in them."
"What about sleep sir?" another student asks.
"Ah yes, that is why you will have a partner, if one of you sleeps and the other is on watch what could go wrong?" he says with a smile. "Now without further adieu, I will assign partners and then we can eat lunch (cause i'm not a monster) and begin."
Jaune asigns partners and enjoys watching the people who have little experience with each other interact. He put Ruby and Jane together, (they seemed happy about this) Pyrrha and Weiss together, Nora and Yang, and finally Ren and Blake, he felt like he should at least put people he saw interact a litte together. The group ate lunch and Jaune organized the supplize in a setting that would put him at an advantage when he was actually at his base camp.
Teams RWBY and PNJR sat together talking before they would be split up,
"Did anyone else notice the Doc's stubble? it makes him look even hotter." Yang almost purrs,
"Eww Yang that's my brother." Jane says
"Oh come on, you can't lie, your brother is hot." Yang nudged her fellow blond, annoying her, Pyrrha silently agreed but then turned red and scolded her-self for thinking such things.
"Xiao-Long, I'll have you know Doctor Arc is already Engaged, to my older sister." Weiss pipes up
"That doesn't mean he's married yet." she says wiggling her eyebrows
"Yang stop being creepy!" Ruby squeaks
"I'm not, I'm just enjoying the eye candy." she says with a smile now just trying to get a rise out of the group
"While I'm flattered you find me attractive, I must request that you don't call me, what is it? Eye candy." Jaune says with a smile standing behind the blond, surprising the entire group with how quite he was.
"Oh Doctor! I'm sorry." Yang almost squeeks looking very embraced.
"It's alright, and Miss Schnee is correct. I am engaged, I'm also a teacher as well as too old for you." he says trying to be nice not realising he we further embarrassing her.
"Oh… um right."
"But anyways I just wanted to tell you all, the test will be starting shortly so you should gather your weapons and if they take ammunition, collect the correct rounds and amounts." he then walks away
With everyone finally ready to begin, Jaune stands before them with a smile.
"Good luck everyone, now." he pulls out Poena and points it to the sky "Go!" he yells as he fires a blank, the students with their new partners run out into the woods each in different directions as per instructed. Now all Jaune had to do was wait, a single hour before he would go hunting.
An hour swiftly passed and Jaune got up attaching two special rings to his knee plates, he stretched a little feeling his muscles stretch and his joints pop in a satisfying way.
He walks over to his supply table and grabs his water bottle attaching it to his belt. With a deep breath he walks out of the camp activating traps as he leaves. Looking at his scroll Jaune looks over his students seeing all of their aura levels, even if this is a test he wouldn't not help them if they were ever in trouble, thinking about it for a second he decided his first targets and started tracking them.
Blake and Ren moved quietly and fast, there were the ninjas of the Teams RWBY and PNJR, once they had decided they had put a good distance between them and the base camp they slowed and hid in the trees sitting in silence waiting.
"Do you have any Ideas for retrieving our things?" Ren said quietly so that the natural sounds of the forest would cover his voice for the most part.
"No, I know with the professor there it will be near impossible for us just to go up and take it and run. " she says, he nodded in agreement.
"Perhaps if one of us led him off the other could grab what we need." he suggests.
"That sounds like a good idea, but I doubt anyone but Ruby or maybe Weiss could out speed him." she says
"But with your semblance you could at least stay out of reach." he counters, he had a point, but Blake wasn't exactly keen on facing their teacher in a one on one fight.
"I suppose, for now we should just focus on a counter strategy if he finds us." she starts
"I agree, I don't think a face on confrontation would be wise." he says
"I would suggest using our firearms to at least get some distraction at the most."
"One of us could fire while the other attacks, then alternate so he always has to be on defence from one or both of us." he adds.
"That could-" she starts only to stop, she could hear something moving in the forest near them. Blake put a finger to her lips and Ren nodded understanding. He motioned for them to move further up the trees, she understood and they both seperated moving to the tops of their respective trees waiting and watching for any enemies nearby.
The looked down and saw something they hadn't expected, It was two of their classmates, know as Danel leader of team DAGR (Danger) and Elizabeth leader of team ECHO (it's literally just the word echo) Daniel was a tall dark skinned boy with messy black hair and a runner's physique his weapon was sharp claw like gauntlet made to accent his semblance Speed Burst, it allowed him to have small bursts of speed making his attacks harder to avoid. Elizibeth was short and muscular with green braided pigtails, she carried a hailbard that could shift into a rifle. Her semblance was Earthbreak. She could stomp and create fissure or small scale earthquakes, it helped throw off others' balance or put space between her and an opponent.
Blake and Ren just watched from the trees while the two partners quietly moved through the forest, then they saw him, Doctor Arc moved silently behind them no noise being made, Elizibeth turned and noticed him and with a shout she alerted Daniel also the two took a ready position as the doctor just stood and smiled for a moment.
"Hello, looks like you're my lucky first match." he says drawing a blade from the I.C.B.S
"Come on professor we don't have to fight do we?" Daniel says with a cool smile the blades in his gauntlet unsheathing as he takes an uncertain step backwards. Jaune laughs for a moment
"I would have said no, but I think it would be rude not to put on a show for our spectators." he says looking up into the trees, right at Blake. It sent a chill down her spine… he knew there where there. Her head snapped to Ren and he nodded jumping to the next trees fleeing, as Blake pursued she could hear the sounds of the battle behind her starting.
Jaune ducked under a slash from Daniel then raised his sword to parry a thrust from Elizabeth. He then ducked and did a backwards sumersalt to avoid a shot from the hailbard. Daniel rushed forward and wordlessly jumped on Elizibeth's halberd who seemingly understood launched him forward with all of his night.
Then when he was close enough he activated his semblance letting him attack at a faster rate, Jaune saw that coming, but what he wasn't entirely prepared for was Elizibeth using her silence at the same time tripping him up so he couldn't avoid the attack quite in time, it was brilliant team work and Juane was impressed, but he would not be defeated so easily, he simply rose his armored arm and caught Daniel by the shirt before tossing him to the side and advancing on Elizabeth. Realizing that this fight wouldn't end well Daniel signed Elizabeth for a retreat, she understood and once again used her semblance of shaking the earth slowing down Jaune before he could reach her and she turned and ran with Daniel.
Jaune stood again and debated pursuing before deciding against it, they had done well enough for now and he would give them a little break, he checked his aura and saw it had gone down roughly 2%. He smiled before turning and running in the direction he saw Blake and Lie run.
Jane and Ruby had camped out in a small clearing almost completely blocked off by trees. They were coming up with a counter plan for Jaune.
"I could take you and out run him if necessary." Ruby suggests.
"But that's only if we want to run. Remember we get less credit if we don't fight."
"Yeah that's true, but can we even beat him if we try?"
"In a fair fight probably not…"
"Ah, so we have to fight unfairly?"
"Yep, I was thinking we set traps around our camp space and lead him here if we ever have to fight?"
"That's a great idea! But we need supplies for that."
"You can use your semblance to steal us some, your fast enough right?"
"Totally! If you stay here and hide I could go get some of our stuff and come back as quick as I can." Jane nodded with a smile, once they had some supplies they would rig these woods to their advantage.
"I just hope our traps can slow down my brother as much as we need them to."
"Don't worry! I'm sure we'll be fine, it's not like we can't run and try again if we need too, we have a few days to complete our test anyways.
Pyrrha and Weiss were on the offensive plans already, they found a small cave near the main base camp and were planning their assault already. They had been planning for a few hours attempting to think of all the counter measures Jaune would have set up at his base camp.
They had already stolen some supplies from the camp, nothing major, just a bag of food and a few other necessary things like sleeping equipment. But the point was they were planning their attack, it would be meticulous, brutal and hopefully effective enough to get them their full credit.
They had planned to attack him from the back stopping his movements with Weiss' Glyphs while Pyrrha uses her markswoman skills to chip away at his aura without the need for close combat. They also thought they could trade as long as she could grab the metal on his person with her semblance.
The only problem they really had was dealing with his own two revolvers, Pyrrha said she could probably pull them away if she could concentrate but he would no doubt be using them for their planned fight so they would also need some sort of cover as Pyrrha's shield couldn't cover them both constantly. And this is what they were figuring out currently. Weiss could just stay in the trees and use them for cover, but she needed to see and focus on Jaune for their plan to work with her semblance, and if Pyrrha got in a jam she's not sure if she could move fast enough to help guard her teammate.
Whatever their plan would be they both knew it would be hard nonetheless getting a 120% score. They heard a sound and Pyrrha pulled out her rifle using the sight to see Jaune had returned to his basecamp, he seemed to do a quick inventory of the supplies, he then smiled noticing some of the stuff was gone. He went to a table and sat down pulling out Poena and Judicii cleaning them with a cloth making them shine again.
"What is he doing?" Weiss asks quietly from over champian's shoulder.
"He's just cleaning his revolvers right now." she replies
"We should move to our positions then." Weiss says placing her hand on Mytensaster
"No, we should wait for a moment," Pyrrha says, adjusting Miló in her hands.
"Why?"
"I don't know something feeling like it's about to happen." she says and as if on cue they hear a loud yell and Nora with Yang jump out of the foliage weapons ready on an unsuspecting Jaune.
Jaune leans back in his chair dropping to the ground and doing a backwards somersault into a ready stance while avoiding Nora's crushing blow that also happens to destroy the table he was sitting at.
Yang was quick to follow up rushing him with a flurry to quick and powerful punches which he dodged by moving back again, he was quick yet made no movement to draw his weapon or load Poena and Judicii they could see he was just dodging which was making both Yang and Nora angry, it's one thing to dodge, it's another to dodge and not attack back. That makes you feel like your opponent isn't taking you seriously.
Finally Jaune raised Poena and cocked it before firing an explosive round missing Yang but hitting Nora dead on. He placed Judicii back in it's holster only using Poena. Yang ran dodging the explosive bullets before jumping against the trunk of a tree and launching herself at him, before he could move Nora grabbed him from behind and forced him to take the powerful punch right to the gut, it must have at least done some damage after throwing Nora off himself he seems a little winded, and that moment of hesitation was enough for Nora as she rearranged herself in the air and fired off grenades as the temporarily stationary teacher.
He unfurled his shield and took the hits but that allowed Yang into his personal space getting another hit in on him, his smile no longer present Jaune finally drew the I.C.B.S with a rapier blade.
"It seems I have to take you two more seriously now." he says, his expression unreadable. He looked down at his scroll for a second, a small smile showing as he did before returning to his stoic expression, they were doing well.
"Come on, teach you should never be under us!" Nora says cheerily swinging her hammer around.
"Yeah putting Nora and Me together was just asking for a world of pain." Yang adds slamming her fists together.
"I am well aware, in terms of raw strength both of you are unparalleled in your class, to be honest I paid you both because I was curious how you would work together due to your strength." he says with a little shrug "But now i'm tired of just observing, you move sloppily together and it's time for me to teach you how important teamwork is… by taking it away from you!" he says rushing forward faster than either of them thought was possible, Pyrrha and Weiss still watching where also stunned at how fast he was moving.
Before Nora could properly react a powerful swing of Jaune's sword send her flying into the woods, like he said Jaune would break up their already shaky teamwork, sure they had been attacking him together they hadn't been coordinating their attacks or relying on each other at all, it was just random, it was more of a one on one for them than a two on one, and Jaune would teach them that.
Yang now alone was left to desperately attempt to defend against Jaune's aggressive and brutal attacking style, with the rapier blade it was a lot of stabs and quick jabs rather than slashes, since she had gauntlets that were harder to block from the small and focused attack points. Nora came running back in a few twigs and such in her hair but no visible damage, Jaune while still attacking Yang turned and pulled Poena fireing forcing Nora to stay at a distance. Yang threw a punch and Jaune sidestepped it before grabbing her arm and throwing her at a charging Nora, Nora sidestepped the flying Yang and let her hit a tree behind them while she continued her charge.
Nora raised her hammer over her head and brought it down as hard as she could, Jaune quickly sheathed the I.C.B.S and raised an opened Infragilis' shield form absorbing the blow, He then drew Judicii and shoved it into her gut and fired sending Nora flying also. Now both Yang and Nora where a few yards back panting and tired,
"Like I said, team work here is key," Jaune said pressing a button on Judicii then pulling a small lever making the empty shells fall to the ground, he crouches slightly and places the empty cylinder into the ring on his leg, there is some clicking and he detaches it, the revolver now fully loaded again, with a swing of his hand the cylinder is in the the gun again and he cocks it.
"As a teacher I hope you learned something from this," he says with a smile before it disappears again "But as your opponent I'm afraid this is the end of your test."
"Nora." Yang says moving to her temporary partner.
"I got it." she says using her grenade launcher on the ground. Creating lots of dust and clouding vision. With the cover Yang and Nora ran as fast as they could away dodging shots from Judicii and Poena as Jaune decided not to follow only shoot.
Weiss and Pyrrha having watched the entire fight can't help but be more nervous about their upcoming attack on their teacher, thankfully now they know they need good teamwork and coordination to have an effective fight.
A while later and after watching Doctor Arc leave a few times and have a few more battles Weiss and Pyrrha decided to sleep for the night and attack in the morning hoping to catching him while he was still asleep Weiss took the first watch while Pyrrha took the blanket and slept for a few hours, then they traded off and Weiss slept till early in the morning when they decided to attack.
They quietly move through the foliage taking care to take out their weapons out of earshot, Pyrrha also uses her semblance to muffle the sound of clanking metal from her armor. They approached their professor who was asleep on a cot out in the middle of the base camp. They moved closer to him now being able to hear the soft snoring he made while he slept, Weiss raised her reaper to activate the Glyphs to restrain their teacher while Pyrrha got ready to quickly attack.
But then they heard an unexpected sound, the cocking of a gun, then Jaune sat up and fired off 3 rounds from Judicii, Weiss quickly activated the gravity Glyph under his cot and he pulled down trapped. Pyrrha rushed in and delivered a quick succession of brutal blows directly to her teacher's chest, Weiss strained a little to keep the Glyph formed as Juane was very strong and struggling against it. Pyrrha did not let up even for a second as the Doctor Struggled against the powerful Glyph,
"Your sister would be proud," Jaune shouted "But you could still use some work!" with a loud grunt he finally shatters the Glyph and catches Pyrrha's blade in his armored hand. With some gravity dust infused into his hand he rips the blade from her and throws it away drawing the I.C.B.S with a long sword blade.
He takes a quick peek at his scroll and sees Pyrrha had done quite a bit of damage to him in the limited time he was pinned, his aura had registered 10% was gone, he smiled as that was the most that had been taken at a time so far, but now refuses he wore a straight face again.
He launched forward and was surprised to be met with a wall of ice, he activated fire dust in Infragilis and punched though it only to be smashed in the face with Akoúo, he stumbled back for a second stunned only to step on a fire glyph from Weiss.
To be honest he was impressed with their teamwork but a little frustrated he was letting himself make so many mistakes, all his instincts told him to end this like the hunter he was, but as a teacher for the 1st years he would have to hold back quite a bit, and it frustrated him a little.
Even though he had the speed to dodge he wouldn't. Pyrrha followed up with a powerful swing of Miló which Jaune prayed before kicking at her gut making her back off a little, Weiss set up many Glyphs and launched herself off them quickly forcing Jaune to guard while Pyrrha took pot shots from the back.
Seeing he took 15% damage Jaune decided to kick up his attack a notch. If they wanted the 120% they would have to earn it. He activated ice dust in the I.C.B.S and slammed it into the ground copying Weiss and freezing the ground trapping Pyrrha while he caught Weiss with a powerful shield bash, he needed to seperate them.
Pulling out Poena he fires at Pyrrha blasting her away out of the ice, he then rushes Weiss coating the blade with lighting dust. Weiss blocks his attack with a Glyph before creating more Glyphs letting Pyrrha make a speedy comeback right into his back with Akoúo, and to be honest,
It hurt.
Jaune plants plants to the ground right onto a fire Glyph which promptly explodes. It also hurt but despite that Jaune simply stood up and dusted himself off then looked at his aura meter, it read 80%, they were 5% away from their extra credit, time to stop playing around, they would have to fight dearly for that last 5%.
Pyrrha charged but Jaune was ready and used his own shield to hit her in the gut before tossing her over his shoulder right into a tree, before Weiss could react he was already there swinging his blade coated in gravity dust, and it hit hard Weiss was also launched barely missing the trees. He stood tall and rushed at the downed Weiss raising his blade high to attack, but then he quickly turned to block some shots from Pyrrha who had recovered and was charging again with her rifle blazing shots.
"Despite not being true partners your team work is incredible!" Jaune shouts his praise sheathing his blade and pulling out Poena returning fire with explosive rounds making the girl dodge best she can.
He knew he had to beware Weiss behind him so he moved making sure to keep them both in sight, running out of ammo he empties Poena of the shells and reloads letting his shield take Pyrrha's bullets Weiss got up and shook herself off before creating Glyphs letting her quickly move to Pyrrha's side, he could see them talking but couldn't hear anything besides the firing of Miló.
Suddenly Pyrrha was launched at him suppizing him he put away Poena and drew the I.C.B.S again raising his shield he blocked her hit and sent her into the air about to swing his sword at her coated with gravity dust, but what he didn't expect was Weiss who apparently also launched herself at him stabbing him in the gut with a lighting coated blade.
Stunned from the lighting he couldn't defend against Pyrrha who landed on him with a powerful blow from Miló forcing him to the ground. And finally both raised the blades and delivered the finishing blows.
Jaune tossed them off himself before standing, he wasn't winded even, but he could tell they had gotten their 120%. He looked at his aura meter and sure enough it said 72%, they had taken 28% of his aura. They only needed 25 for the extra credit. He folds up his shield and sheathes the I.C.B.S
"Well done, both of you." Jaune says with a smile. Both look a little skeptical at first wondering if this was a tick. Seeing them hesitate to lower their guard Jaune pulls out his scroll and shows them his Aura level. "You both pass the test with Extra credit, your teamwork was incredible. I even tried to seperate you. You both hold great promise for being future huntresses." he says walking toward them.
"So our test is over?" Pyrrha asks
"Yes, your test is over. I will no longer hunt, or fight either of you, you may put your weapons away." he says, still smiling proud of his students. Both Pyrrha and Weiss put away their weapons and sigh a sigh of relief.
"Sir are we the first to finish?" Weiss asks, her pride demanding it.
"Yes actually, everyone else has only managed to escape or do minimal damage so far. Your teamwork has proven to work though so you managed to beat me." Jaune explains.
"What would you like us to do for the rest of the time, Doctor?" Pyrrha asks.
"Well, you may either join me at base camp for the rest of the time, or go back to your camp and spend your time there. Either way we still have the rest of today here and tomorrow so find some way to entertain yourselves I suppose. I still have to hunt down the others."
"I would like to stay here if that's okay Doctor." Pyrrha says quickly,
"That is fine, just promise not to interfere with my future battles." he says
"Of course." Pyrrha nods.
"I will also stay here if that's okay sir, our cave is not exactly comfortable." Weiss says
"Same rules apply to Miss Schnee." Jaune nods
"Yes sir."
Suddenly a shot rings out and Jaune's head realls back, as he was shot in the forehead. He rubs his forehead in pain
"Ouch, well if you ladys would excuse me, it seems Miss Rose has invited me to a fight." he says, expanding his shield and walking towards where the shot came from, leaving the two girls behind.
"Clever getting me to come to you," Jaune thought aloud moving slowly in the direction of the shot to his head, it had actually done about 3% damage to his Aura, and it gave him a headache. But it would be rude not to respond to a pre-emptive attack so here he went to get stuff over with.
As he walked along suddenly he felt he was no longer on the ground, if fact he was in the air and now his sister's weapon Judicium was flying at his chest, and making contact, and hurting.
Judicium (Judgment) is a spear that shifts into an anti-tank rifle. Apparently she fell in love with the kind of gun when he fought Cyrus in his first tournament. She quickly stabbed him a few more times in the chest before he cut himself free and attempted to crush his sister, she raised the second half of her weapon Salutis (Salvation) a simple shield similar in design to Pyrrha's shield also being circular with designs on the surface.
Jaune landed on the ground and only barely raised his shield blocking a powerful blow from Crescent Rose.
"You're going down bro!" Jane yells
"Professor or Doctor!" Jaune fires back before closing his shield and grabbing the scythe swinging Ruby away with a yelp, he punches Salutis coating his fist with gravity dust sending his little sister flying, realising he just gave them distance Jaune regret his choice and set up his shield again just in time to black fire from Crescent Rose, but he got decked by an anti-tank rifle round from Jane.
It hit hard and swept him off his feet, all he could do was duck and cover trying his best to minimize the damage from the two powerful guns. He pulled out Poena and Judicii unloading them on each of his opponents, neither currently had very powerful rounds in them so after he finished firing he reloaded them with super explosive rounds. They moved faster, farther, and explode. He points Judicii at Jane and Poena at Ruby and fires off all 6 shots from each revolver.
Jane manages to absorb some of the damage with her shield, while Ruby is blown away but manages to only take a little damage by using her semblance to dodge him. Juane gets up running to Jane changing his blade to the rapier blade. He thrusts the sword forward narrowly missing Jane's face, she shifts Judicium back into a spear and stabs at his gut, he catches the shaft of the weapon and pulls her forward hitting her face with his elbow
He spins on his head taking a hit from Crescent Rose before he was bashed in the back with Salutis, he couldn't lie, they had picked a great time to attack, immediately after his fight with Weiss and Pyrrha, he was still recharging the Aura he lost from that and was slightly tired now.
He looked at his Aura meter, it was at 63% they had taken 9% on their own. Both weapons held powerful rounds and each one that made contact would take a big chunk of his Aura. Jaune used the momentum of the hit to press forward while activating ice dust in his arm, freezing part of Crescent Rose, throwing off Ruby's balance a little. He then used her off balanceness to take out her feet with the I.B.S before stabbing at her quickly.
Jane managed to move fast enough to block the hit with Judicium, but Jaune seeing opportunity ran his blade along the shaft into her hand making her drop her weapon leaving her only with Salutis, she raised her shield to block his next attack but didn't notice him draw Judicii again before she knew it, it was against her gut. He shot getting damaged only to have a leg sweep from Ruby still on the ground, he adjusted in the air and landed on his feet again before shooting at his sister's hand while she reached for her weapon.
He rushes her putting away the gun and swinging his sword in a powerful arch slamming the lighting dust coated blade against her shield, she may have blocked it but the lighting dust would travel through the metal and hurt her, and it did. Ruby swung her scythe and hit Jaune full power, shattering the ice and doing some light damage as he blocked the hit with his shield. She then picked up her partner's weapon and tossed it to her
"Thanks"
"No problem, try not to lose it again." Ruby teases a little.
"Hmph," was her response.
Jaune stood tall against his face serius, he could not let them get direct hits, he blocked the last blow and still took about 2% damage, this was not good, at this rate they would beat him, both hit hard even if their attacks mostly missed or he blocked them. Time to take this more seriously.
He coated his blade with gravity dust, this would do more damage when he hit now. Ruby rushed forward with Jane retreating back shifting her weapon again. Ruby swung Crescent Rose and Jaune parried the gravity dust making the scythe bounce off right back. Ruby used the momentum to do a backflip bringing her scythe up under his defense hitting him in the leg dropping him to one knee, that's when Jane took her shots firing while Jaune was off balanced and his shield wasn't in front of his chest.
She got in 3 good shots direct to the chest and arms before Juane corrected himself and blocked the next 2 rounds only to roll back avoiding a swing from Ruby. he twisted himself and kicked out her legs coating his shield with gravity dust smashing it into her sending her flying at Jane. Ruby corrected herself midair and landed against Jane's waiting shield who launched her right back and Jaune.
Jaune was forced back by the powerful scythe hit, before he pushed back forcing Ruby to take one knee as he was much stronger than her. Jane moving quickly got behind Jaune and stabbed for his back before he moved again, trapping her spear tip in his armpit before twisting his torso, throwing her away, he activated the fire dust in his shield and forced Ruby to use her semblance to get away.
They had taken 20% of his Aura, the anti-tank rounds where nothing to joke about each doing roughly 3% with direct hits. Jaune rushed forward and was shocked to find one of his legs stuck in the ground. They had dug a pit trap. Both stepped back and started shooting, Jaune raised his shield while coating his balde with rock dust before digging it into the ground breaking the ground up and freeing his leg.
He had to be careful, it seems they had more traps. With a twirl of his blade he ran right into the burrage of fire shielding himself before swinging his sword with great force, he cut down 7 trees in the attack but Ruby managed to dodge while Jane was sent flying. Jaune rushed Ruby and she was forced to defend against the many stabs and thrusts from the rapier blade. But the last thing he expected was Jane's recovery time as he felt the cool steel of an anti-tank rifle against his back. And then his spine, then suddenly the barrel of a sniper rifle was pressed against his temple. This was going to HURT,
And it did.
Both bullets had taken a combined 9% of his Aura, in total they took 29% and passed his test with 120% grade.
Feeling two defeats in a row annoyed Jaune, he went and found a partnership and beat them later that day. The rest of the day he recharges and tracks his students each time he finds Blake and Ren; they both manage to get away with little to no damage taken. And the final day Yang and Nora take one more chance at beating Jaune, they improved their plan of attack and coordination, unfortunately they just were not great partners so they almost lost again managing to retreat.
So all Blake, Ren, Yang, and Nora all passed the test with 100% while Pyrrha, Weiss, Jane and Ruby all passed with 120%. The rest of the pairs did okay also. He beat two, lost to one, two got away and he never found one. So overall it was a good test week. He would have a make up test for the pair that failed. But now it was time to go home and he was tired so it was really time.
The airship picked them up and Jaune sat back observing his students talk about his test. He was happy with how it had turned out and was impressed with his students growth, but he was still holding back, if he hadn't been none of them would have made it past 5% Aura drop on him. Sighing Jaune remembered he had a meeting with Oz when he got back. But first he wanted a real shower some coffee and to shave. He didn't much like the stubble on his chin.
The Airship landed and Jaune thanked all of his students for giving their all on the test and promised a less harsh day of class next week as a reward. They all liked that. He went to his quarters and did what he wanted showering, shaving, and getting his coffee. But now was the time to meet with Ozpin. Glynda had mentioned he had something important to tell him.
The elevator ride up to Ozpin's office was surprisingly long,.. And unsettling. When he finally made it to the office he entered, finding Ozpin speaking with Glynda.
"Hello sir" Jaune said a little awkwardly
"Oh Doctor, hello. I was expecting you." he says taking a sip of his drink.
"Hello Doctor, how was your testing?" Glynda said with a smile leaning against Ozpin's desk.
"The testing went without a flaw, no Grimm were even seen." he says with a smile.
"I'm glad to hear it." Ozpin says his somber expression is not changing, it was freaking out Jaune.
"Unfortunately, I have not called you hear to ask about your testing." Ozpin continues
"Oh, is there a problem?" Jaune asks
"Please Doctor, sit down."
"I'm fine sir." Jaune says he can't help but regret only bringing Poena and Judicii along with him.
"Trust me you'll want to sit down for this." Ozpin said a slight frown appearing on his face.
"Alright." Jaune says sitting down, he felt like a student about to get scolded.
"Tell me Jaune, what is your favorite fairy tail?"
