Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Waves of Woe. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Steven Universe. Rebecca Sugar and a few others do.
Lapis looked at Howlite who was busy thinking to himself. He knew very well that their work wasn't done on the last planet. There would be far much more construction and such when they arrived on Pink Diamond's colony.
"Howlite?" Lapis asked which caused Howlite to turn and look at her. "What do you think this colony will be like?" Lapis questioned while Howlite hummed and shrugged.
He didn't have access to the database. The Peridots of the ship did. He knew very well that things would become strange on this planet. Howlite didn't want to make Lapis… What was the word?
Paranoid? Yes, Howlite believed that was the single word that he was busy thinking to himself while sighing.
"I think I will help you in any endeavors that you need assistance with." Howlite said and brushed off his armor. "Why? Do you think I would abandon you on the battlefield for any manner?" Howlite asked with a slight smile.
Lapis said nothing, curious about what Howlite meant. He wouldn't leave the planet, Howlite knew that. The diamonds had brought them to the planet, their work was obviously important to it.
Still? Howlite cleared his throat and turned from his seat towards Lapis. He leaned back in it.
"You know you fought well on the colony." Howlite said with a small smirk. "I didn't think a Lapis gem would try to assist me. I mean that with all due respect. You acquainted yourself well with combat for someone who I assume doesn't usually battle." Howlite said and blinked.
Most gems didn't have camaraderie with each other. There was no need to. Every single gem considered themselves just another piece of a massive machine that sustained the diamonds.
"You…. Thanks." Lapis said and pulled her feet to her chest. "Hey, Howl… Sorry, bad to call you that?" Lapis asked with was greeted by a raised eyebrow.
"That is… Acceptable." Howlite said and pursed his lips together. "If it makes you comfortable to address me as such. Do you require something, Lapis?" Howlite asked and crossed his arms over his chest.
He closed his eyes to try and think of what his duties would entail. Lapis spoke up about 5 seconds later, causing him to open them as he turned to look at Lapis once more.
"I just hope we can talk more on 'Earth' to talk." Lapis said, using her fingers to emphasize the word. It felt alien to her. "I like talking to you." Lapis said which caused Howlite to blink.
That was the furthest thing from what he expected to hear… But it was still nice to hear. It gave him hope and made him feel an unknown feeling that he would have to ask a medical gem about.
"I… Value your company as well." Howlite said and looked away. "I will attempt to make sure that the diamonds know you wish to be set up with me. Our work will benefit the diamonds… And allow us more time to conversate. I wont have to do much fighting, however. I heard the natives of the planet are as primitive as the other colony." Howlite stated while putting his head in his hand.
He wondered what was taking so long. From what he understood? Gem warships should have been fast enough to easily reach lightyears in seconds.
"This is going to be something." Howlite stated while he cleared his throat. "Yes, there will be plenty to think on when it comes down to Earth. This colony will endeavor to be interesting." Howlite said while getting a raised eyebrow from Lapis.
It caused him to scratch at the back of his neck. He coughed slightly before shaking his head.
"You know, you don't have to use big words." Lapis said with a smirk.
"Sorry, I'm not used to talking very much." Howlite said while blinking. "I'm quite nervous and shy when it comes down to it. I was just made a few days ago." Howlite stated which caused Lapis to nod.
She was a new Lapis. A very new one like Howlite. Howlite leaned his head up at the ceiling. He began to drum his fingers on the armrest of his console.
"I don't know what else to say, Lapis." Howlite said before finally pushing himself up and out of his seat. "Bah! I want to see why this journey is taking so long. We should have been there 20 minutes ago!" Howlite yelled as he turned and started to leave.
He gave a warm smile to Lapis and hummed before turning back.
"I'll come back when I'm done asking the Nephrite in charge what is going on." Howlite stated as he clicked his fingers together before walking away.
He also needed an excuse to clear his head and sighed once more. There were such details to think about.
Author Notes
Phew. Another chapter done! I want to point out that next chapter will be in 2-10 months and will be longer then this. Next chapter will be 1200-2000 words and will show more bonding between Lapis and Howlite and set up the tragedy and such. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
P.S: I might make a Pearl story sooner or later… But possibly sooner or such.
